Cine TV Contest #137 : Moana Review

Hello, Cinelovers, long time!
Have you ever watched a film that not only entertained you, but also left a part of itself within you; such as a silent reminder or a gentle push on ones spirit? Moana is the perfect example of one of those films that appeared very adventurous yet it managed to get under my skin.
To be honest, I had no intention of viewing it again, but there was just this urge that I couldn’t resist – maybe it was the ocean calling out to me? Regardless, I am pleased with my choice since this is more than just an animation. It portrays an identity, courage, and highlights on some truths that were left out of sight for a while in a very interesting way.
Sometimes, a movie comes that does more than just make us happy; it also serves as a reminder of certain truths that we may have forgotten. Moana is one of such unique tales; it sparkles as it journeys through the sea and one’s personality, with a non-constant map and an internal compass. The movie captivates every viewer from the start by immersing them in a lively setting; the ocean appears alive, the islands seem musical and there are cultural practices communicated over many years through singing, storytelling and dancing. Nevertheless, in the midst of such splendor lies a silent query for most people-does it matter if I cross the typical line of duty at the seashore?
Moana is brought up in a loving, traditional and expectant environment. They are doing well as a people in their little paradise of a home inside the reef, which should be her heritage. However, she cannot resist the call of her inner self. Out of the sea, she receives the message “It whispers backs” A particular kind of glow can be seen at the edge of the sea, and it gives rise to the question ‘how, not why?’ very quickly. At the beginning of the trip, there is no absolute assurance, but a little self-assurance follows. This truth gives the film a human touch-Moana is not going because she is certain about being successful, but rather because she believes that she has to try. Through failing, learning, falling and standing up again she builds her strength.
The sea plays different roles in this story. It is a large body, which symbolizes a combination of fear, freedom as well as belief. In it are tempests, beasts, and an overbearing demigod with massive tattoos. Nevertheless, every trial relates more to overcoming one’s inner fears, which are infinitely more deafening than any external roar. This is not a story about someone who was meant to be great and powerful. No one has been given any type of enchanted abilities in this case. It is just a little explorer who remains attentive, both to the past and present voices of nature, among the latter being that which is alone within itself. But the latter - the still, calm, confident - leads her out, though not for long, and will also help her people remember who they truly were - great travellers.
One of the most striking scenes in the film does not involve any massive explosion or fight scene, but rather a simple glimpse. It’s when Moana comes before the shadowed Te Ka, looking past all the anger and chaos at something lost underneath it all - a heart, which was taken away but remains unvanquished. In understanding, not in a show of strength, she gives back the heart. This is a point where it becomes clear that humanity should appreciate a different kind of heroism more often.
The music is not just beautiful; it speaks the truth too. Saying “I am Moana” carries a lot of implications; such as identification. This proves that one’s essence or identity goes beyond what he may assume about himself in high or low social positions taken from that inner sanctuary where everything is absent and dumb. In the final analysis, Moana serves as an additional bond. In particular, she acts as a bridge connecting the past and the future. On one side is the past which had its ways while on the other there is now the opportunity for change. It also represents the state of not being able to move because of fear juxtaposed with absolute freedom.
By acting this way, she does not cut off the chain of inheritance among their people; rather she reinforces it by reminding them of their true identity. Moana goes beyond the usual rites of passage in this film; it speaks up for all those individuals who stand on the brink of expectations, who sense a greater world just across the horizon and who sometimes doubt about their sufficiency in such cases.

It communicates one thing in a soft yet strong tone; you are enough. And if you ever feel like going for a swim-it’s your call. You don’t have to wait just go-ahead. Just walk confidently and start offshore paddling.

This makes for a pretty good adventure film. I sort of enjoyed the first part more than the second though
