"Glass Onion" by Rian Johnson: A Mystery in Plain Sight

Introduction

I must say that Glass Onion is another great mystery movie just like the first one Knives Out. Aside from Knives Out, I have seen a lot of mystery films but this one stands out because it has a great plot and a good ending (the ending could have been better, I think).

The Film's Narrative

The film's story is about the mystery of two deaths. One death happens before the gathering on an island and the other death is while the characters are all on the island partying.

Thoughts

"Glass Onion" was able to make me think about what comes next because the opening scenes pertain to multiple situations but what they have in common is that the people in that different situation were sent similar boxes that came from Bron Miles. But then it was revealed that the individuals who received the boxes knew each other. Not only that, there is a fourth, fifth, and sixth person who received the box. I was so intrigued by the role of that box until it was revealed that it only contained an invitation from Miles Bron (see image below).

The split screen in this film is amazing in portraying the "phone call" going on to the people who received the boxes. It turns out that the box contains an invitation that invites the sender's close friends to a private island to solve a mystery.

"Glass Onion" had me so intrigued right away with the puzzle boxes on its purpose but then I was more intrigued when I saw the reaction of Miles Bron seeing Andi (see images below). Since this is a mystery film I started to think why Miles Bron was so shocked seeing Andi. I think if it is not a mystery I am not going to think anything negative about the reaction of Miles Bron seeing Andi.

At first, I was also intrigued by the title "Glass Onion" and as it turned out the glass onion is a dome of glass that looks like an onion and I learned that the Glass Onion is a CGI.

"Glass Onion" is brilliantly written and has a lot of twists just like the first one but I just wished that it was a different ending. To be honest I think the ending could have been different.

The plot of how Benoit Blanc deciphered who is the "killer" in the "murder game" is brilliant. Such a plot is unique in that I haven't seen anything like it before in any mystery movies that I already watched.

The plot that "Andi" picks a fight to lose is also brilliant as it really makes the group think that she walked away and wanted to distance herself from the group, it worked in the movie, and I think it could also work in real life.

The entire plot of the murder of Duke is also brilliant. The style of how the murder was solved is great and it is consistently the same from the first movie.

While watching the film I thought that the murder would be committed by a weapon or a poison but then I found out that the murder on the island was because of a "pineapple", brilliant.

Conclusion

Glass Onion is brilliantly written except of course the ending which I don't like much but overall the film is brilliant. Anyone who is going to watch it will appreciate the mystery that comes with the film. And just like the first one, the participation of Benoit Blanc made us believe that he was hired anonymously yet again (just like in the first movie).

This film is a must-watch, it is interesting, and it is a brilliant mystery film that makes you in awe of the writing prowess of the writer of the film.

I too came to these films out of curiosity because of the name, and ended up loving everyone's performance. They're good for hanging out, but the endings definitely leave a lot to the imagination. I'm glad you shared it in the community ✌️

Same here, I think you should see "Knives Out".
