The old Guard(2020) : A Gripping Action Film with Heart
I didn’t expect much when I chose The Old Guard, but it surprised me in the best way. I actually watched it late at night and couldn’t sleep after because I kept thinking about the story and characters. I don’t usually write reviews the next day, but I really felt like sharing my thoughts on this one.

About the Movie
The Old Guard is a 2020 action film directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
Charlize Theron stared as Andy, who is considered a true leader by immortal mercenaries.
They’ve been fighting for centuries, trying to do good, even though humanity doesn’t always see it that way. When a greedy pharma boss learns of their powers, he wants to exploit them for profit.

The Plot
Andy leads her team ,Booker, Joe, and Nicky on what they think is a rescue mission.
They weren't aware that it was a trap, their secret were exposed when their healings were caught on camera.

Meanwhile, Nile, a young Marine, dies in Afghanistan but wakes up fully healed.
That was when she discovered that she was like them.
Andy tracks her down and tries to help her understand this new life.
Leaving her old life was something Nile struggled with . The team also had to stop their enemies and turning then into experiments in the lab.

What I Loved
Charlize Theron is fantastic as Andy.
With the way she carried out the character perfectly, you might even believe she has done everything over centuries ago.

I also really liked KiKi Layne as Nile. She’s strong but also confused, and that felt real. The action scenes are sharp and exciting without being too flashy. There are quiet moments too, where you see the pain of living forever and losing people you love.
I appreciated how the movie didn’t rely too much on long flashbacks. Instead, you get bits of history in old photos or short scenes that hint at their past.
A Few Weak Points
I found the villain, Merrick, a bit too flat. He’s greedy and cruel, but not very interesting.
Although, he should have been more real but anyway,he didn't ruin the movie.
Final Thoughts
The ending clearly sets up a sequel, especially with the reveal of Andy’s old friend Quynh.
This twist alone actually made me eager to see more.
I want to know how she survived and what she plans to do.
So what can I say ,this movie mixes action, emotion, and a touch of fantasy.
Even if you don’t usually watch superhero or immortal warrior movies, I think you’ll find something to enjoy here.
I’d give it a solid 4.5 out of 5. Definitely worth watching.
