We all tend want to hold on to memories, the good ones and keep out the bad ones, the first kiss, the first real date, the first word our baby said, the first time they walked, the first time we used the word "I love you". These memories actually keep us alive, keep us going, gives us something to wade the night mares with. I've always wanted to really feel love, to have that strong connection that goes beyond sex and one night stands. I've always yearned to feel something more, something more like a fairy tale.

Love in itself is a complicated word as much as it is beautiful. Four letter words that can either break you or make you. What's worse is that it goes beyond the covering of your body, it goes deep into your soul leaving you helpless and empty without that person, the one that actually completes you. When I saw After (the first movie of this franchise) I was both fascinated and sad at the same time. Was I ever going to feel this kind of love? Would I ever find someone that'll touch me so much that I'll be willing to do anything including changing who I was. I feel in love immediately with Hardin's wit, smartness and charm. And Tess just blew my mind away with her Innocence, beauty and brilliance. They were the perfect characters (Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes-Tiffinto) bring to live Anna Todd's novel.

20220929_125242.jpg

Their love actually cut deep and it almost turned toxic and with the other sequel's After we fell and After we collided we all see Tess innocence being taken away and filled with hopelessness and more emotional damage and Hardin's wit become obsession, paranoia and more disgusting addiction. His hatred and inability to forgive made him unbearable and I almost wanted to scream at him and beat the sense into him. But both of them were always meant to live for each other, this one for the other and no matter where they went they always carried with them a piece of the other. They kept moving in circles and it surely irritated me so much that I didn't want to see this one, but part of me really wanted to know what happened next. I could have just looked for a way to get Anna Todd's novel and read it all but I couldn't bear to not see Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes-Tiffinto again together.

After ever Happy

20220929_125214.jpg

After falling, Hardin doesn't take the news of Vance being his father very lightly. So much emotion stirred up inside him and as always we see him drink and act crazy angry. But something happens that actually got me, that big revelation actually leaves him with regret. How much he hated the man who he thought was his father and now he can actually be in his shoes for once to understand the kind of pain he must have felt knowing deep in his heart that Hardin didn't really belong to him. The movie then starts to be all emotional, showing angry Hardin try to burn his mother's house .

I certainly didn't know what to expect next with this film because after the second and third film a lot of us had lost hope, it felt like the story didn't have a real direction and Hardin who was the bad boy in the start now felt like a pawn being controlled by love. Tess as always tries to be there for him but he pushes her away after a long ride to the middle of nowhere and then she catches him at a house party with another girl. I could tell that they was something a lot different with Tess and it showed in this movie, she knew she love Hardin but then she was struggling to make him see that he was doing too much.

20220929_125300.jpg

As always, they fight and argue and then one other person decides to leave. I wouldn't blame anyone for choosing to be tired of this movie because the drama is starting to feel forced and even their intimate moments didn't feel all that intimate. But isn't that how love is? You fall in love with someone and in the long run you see yourselves struggling to tolerate each other and have to remind yourselves that you love each other. In as much as this movie might seem like a fairytale, too good to be true, it still identifies some of the things we go through as creatures of love.

20220929_125143.jpg

A tragedy happens that makes Hardin realize that whatever he did, he couldn't bear to lose Tess. It becomes cliche when something has to happen for each one to always come back to their senses but I took something in this theme. No matter what you're going through there's always someone who's going through something worse. You can either pull your shit together or keep whining like a little baby. Tess wouldn't have Hardin's new change of heart and then she decides to move away from him. Would she be able to succeed to get over him? Would Hardin be able to get the love of his life back? You'll have to watch it for yourself.

My opinion

20220929_125332.jpg

Frankly, after the first movie After, I really did have a lot of expectations for this movie which kept falling short. Sometimes I can't help but feel that it would have been better if they have made it into a seasonal movie instead of this movie after movie pattern because it's getting too long for my liking. I think Castille Landon just wants to make it feel like the novel but most times movie directors actually fail to actually bring the novel to life as you expect. Hunger games did a good job but it still fell a little short. I still think that this movie could have been a lot better.

Then it got a little tiring when some of the casts were changed. I hear it was because of the covid-19 restroom so it couldn't have been avoided. But I had already warmed up to Landon (Hardin's brother) and seeing him as Chance Perdomo didn't sit well at first but then I can't take away the fact that Chance did so well in this one even if he was a little lifeless. There was really so much lacking in this movie. One scene really caught my attention and I felt it could have been a lot better, the funeral, I expected to see more pain and emotion showed but it just felt like everything was just centered around their love.

Something i couldn't help but appreciate is what they did with Hardin, this movie was more about him than about Tessy to me. I could see his character revived, he was way more confident and that wit was almost there. I started to actually love Hardin again and enjoy how much he was beginning to discover and be himself. That smile, that accent and everything that made him Hardin could be really appreciated.

I should commend the way the setting was, it was well lit up, the camera angles were great and the cut scenes were on point. The lighting was as good as ever and the Soundtrack was great!. You could actually feel the emotions with the sounds playing and I actually did start to warm up to it. I even told to myself that I was certainly going to go download some of the tracks, something to keep me company on a rainy day. The adult theme was reduced to a minimum and their role play wasn't really as entertaining as before, hehe.

This love story gets complicated more and more but I can't help following it through. I can't wait for After everything to be released and hopefully I might just stop there haha, I hope. It wasn't a bad movie and it could surely have been better. If you're a fan of teenage romance, you should see this one, if not, just stick to watching whatever it is you love ayye.

I would dare to say that one way or another this saga of films are doing something right, they are selling themselves to young people in a superb way, yet i found them like some sort of Twilight spin off or just a remake without vampires and competition xD I will just say that i found this relationship to be just as toxic if not even worse than Bella-Edward :) Now i send you a hug and hope to ear a reply front you :)

avatar

Well, you're right though. They surely are seeling themselves and with each movie comes something new that'll make you really want to see the next one...like twilight there was always something there to keep you tuned in for more....
You're right...their relationship actually is a lot...a lot more toxic than most, yet it's still beautiful to see ...

Thanks for the comment ❤️

I haven't seen any of this franchise, none of the movies and I haven't read the books either, because it's not my favorite genre. I am totally ignorant of this story. I can't have an opinion, I'll have to look up and watch the first movie, hoping it will hook me or make me change my mind and not watch the next ones. 😊

avatar

Mehn, you should see the first movie After.. there's a guarantee you'll like it even if you're not really much into teen romance and it was way more natural..then you could decide whether to see the other movies in this franchise. ..

Thanks for your comment ❤️

The way the producers just keep extending this is beginning to bore me.
For me, the first two (After and after we collided) would do it.
I just finished watching "After ever happy" a while ago and I can't help but feel upset, they did good with the lightning, setting and Hardin's character but I feel the producers should stop it already. The storyline is becoming boring and the toxicity of their relationship is something else 🤦. I hope the next one is more interesting and is the last ☹️, because like you, I love teenage romance and would love to see how this ends 😌.

Thanks a lot for this review 🤗

avatar

Well, I too almost got frustrated with the extending story but since they're basing it off the novel I think it might not end after the coming film...they might have one of more or two more coming up...and even though I promise myself not to see it . I'm already fond of the casts and love teen romance like you said...I just hope they keep it as interesting as possible so it'll be a lot more bearable..

It was great to have you share your thoughts.. thanks a lot ❤️
