I'm still searching for the perfect song to go with what I'm about to write, music kind of cools my soul. You know, I've always wanted to be happy, to be able to chase my dreams and still be happy above everything else. But sometimes when I feel like I'm getting there, something just... something just changes and at that moment it feels like I'm back to square zero. I know you've felt that way before or maybe, you've had cold feet. You're about to make this big decision and then you find yourself questioning if that's the right thing to do.

This new city I'm about to travel to, is it going to be a lot more relaxing, is it going to worth traveling halfway round the world for? And after that question mark, you're faced with making a decision. Sometimes I just run when I'm stuck, maybe and maybe I'll be able to find my way somehow, maybe I'll come back stronger or maybe I'll be just too weak to make any decision and just never move forward, I might just chose to remain stuck.

I like this movie because it's relatable and if you can see past the cliche story, you'll surely enjoy it. Erica wilson (Christina Milian) finds all her hope shattered when the studio album that was supposed to make way for her career to bloom eventually gets destroyed by Cre after he realizes that a song got leaked before it's release. She gets shattered and heartbroken (like most of us have felt before) and this leaves her with painful memories of her fiance leaving her days before their wedding. She loses all hope and her friend tries to comfort her.

She eventually manages to get her a job singing at a luxurious 5 star resort in Mauritius. Erica finally agrees to go with the idea of a change of environment and finally travels to the resort. On getting there she realizes that she'd not only be singing to tourist but she'd be singing to married couples on their wedding night. This leaves her really emotional but she's left with no choice but to do it.

Then she awkwardly meets Caleb (, a former war hero and a very dashing looking young man but she plays hard to get and leads him to the chase which he immediately accepts. They run to each other again and this time she realizes that Caleb is actually the brother of the man that didn't get married to her. She also discovers that Jason (Jay Pharoah) her ex is getting married to Beverly (Christiani pitts) and she'd be the one singing to them on their wedding day.

There's a lot of drama unfolding from there on and you'll have to see the movie to see what happens next, hehe.

My take on the movie

I think for a movie released on July 29, 2021 it was quite enjoyable. It's no wonder to find out that Alicia keys was part of the production theme because they kept singing her song over and over again, it almost felt like a promotional movie for her song. But nevertheless I think Christina Milian actually did great in this movie. It has been a while since her saw any of her movie and I thought maybe she might have lost her touch but she actually did, no not at all.

20220907_032011.jpg

She was really beautiful and I think her whole outlook really gave off the character Erica really well and for the other Christiani (Beverly), I loved her for real and I loved what they did to the character, it just came out natural and wasn't forced. I've not seen her in too many movies but playing Beverly really made me believe she's actually a great actress and she did it for.

20220907_031932.jpg

As for Caleb (Sinqua Walls), it's was great to see how well he just got into character even though he was way too handsome for a war hero, hehe and Jay Pharoah doesn't always disappoint, dude knows how to play anybody with his acts and it was great to see him in this movie. I would say overall the director Steven Tsuchida really put out a great cast for this movie.

As for the story line, there were moments that were easily predictable and some parts just didn't add up. Like when Erica texted Jason and then Caleb shows up, it just feels so unreal like something from a fairytale, but then most movies are supposed to be like that. The story was fun and really emotional at some point but I was more interested with the ending, I was waiting eagerly to see what they'll do with the ending because most movies always get it wrong and that end up making the whole movie a flop. The ending for me wasn't perfect but it was a happy one and I surely predicted it but it was still exciting.

The filming was on point with the location driving me nuts. Like the whole setting got me wishing I was on a one way ticket to that luxury Island. Whatever flaws had been made in the story I think the setting just made it bearable. The blue skies, the colors and most of all the camera angles were all on point.

Part of what I actually enjoyed the most was the dialogue. It was supposed to be funny be because it's a comedy film but then I didn't expect some of the replies and it really got me laughing. I'm not surprised though that the movie didn't get that much hype though. Not everyone enjoys a straightforward comedy film that doesn't have the likes of Kelvin Hart in it or the regular actors and actresses they're used to but I loved what the directors did, using casts like Christina and Jay really actually gave it a different kind of feel.

I didn't go into watching this movie expecting anything. I've actually learnt to not see a movie with so much expectation and it really paid off. I got to really enjoy 101 minutes of romantic comedy without thinking of how they would have done better or how it didn't meet my expectations. I just watched it and enjoyed watching it too. If you haven't seen it yet and you're looking to have a good time I'll surely recommend it to you, don't have high expectations though it might not meet your taste as it did mine, lol. I'll rate it a 7 out of 10.

Sé que alguna vez te has sentido así o quizás, te has acobardado.

Resort to Love

You know, I've always wanted to be happy, to be able to chase my dreams and still be happy above everything else.

Hey man. I think everyone can relate to this thought. Las las nobody wants to suffer but who could have thought that being genuinely happy would require a lot of effort. Sometimes we know the decisions to make but in the last minute we get unsure. I guess it's normal for big dreams to be scary and cause a lot of anxiety.

This is the first time I'm hearing about this film. Normally I don't really like romance but when it has a dose of healthy comedy, I almost can't resist it. The only movie that I have seen with Alicia Keys as a producer is Work It and I really liked it. This one should be fun too. It also looks exciting because Sinqua Walls stars in it. The last movie I saw this guy in was Otherhood and boy did I have fun seeing that film.

So yeah, this is definitely going in my list. I'll see it soon.

Great review man. It's always a pleasure to read your work :)

Probably a good movie to watch as a couple right? Alicia Keys singing makes things more romantic =P
