Why are Quentin Tarantino's Films so Catchy? Opinion + Analysis [ENG/ESP]

When we talk about action movies, the study of revenge and a lot of violence (artistically executed), we are undoubtedly talking about one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of cinema. Yes, Quentin Tarantino, despite not having his own style, is one of the best directors we can enjoy in the history of the seventh art. For this reason, and in accordance with the affection and admiration I feel towards his work, I have decided to make this post.
Although many people who may read this post may not have followed all of this author's work, it is no less certain that, at least, one or more films must have seen, enjoyed and even alarmed, or even entertained, I would say. To answer what, in a fascinating rhetorical way, I indicate in my title, I will begin with the study of the action that Tarantino applies in his scripts and films. His characters are marginalized subjects. They would not normally be the "A" choice of any average person. They have a violent or harsh past that shapes them but also does not isolate them from the rest.
Cuando hablamos de cine de acción, estudio de la venganza y muchísima violencia (artísticamente ejecutada), sin lugar a dudas estamos hablando de unos de los realizadores más grandes de la historia del cine. Sí, Quentin Tarantino, a pesar de no poseer un estilo netamente propio, es uno de los mejores directores que podemos disfrutar en la historia del séptimo arte. Por esta razón, y en concordancia con el afecto y admiración que siento hacia su obra, he decidido hacer este post.
Si bien, mucha gente que quizá leas este post no haya seguido la totalidad de la obra de este autor, no menos cierto es que, como mínimo, una o varias películas deben haber visto, disfrutado y hasta alarmado, entretenido, diría yo. Para responder lo que, de un modo retórico fascinante, indico en mi título, empezaré con el estudio de la acción que Tarantino aplica en sus guiones y películas. Sus personajes, son sujetos marginados. Comúnmente no serían la opción"A" de ninguna persona promedio. Tienen un pasado violento o duro que les forma pero que tampoco les aísla del resto.
From the point of view of the antagonists, it can be said that the opposite is true. In this line, Tarantino puts to the test the nourished school of films he consumed during his very marked adolescent life and in his young adulthood. That's why the people who play the villains in his films are so deeply ingrained in us. In other words, they possess a perfect magnetism for the audience's retina. Brilliant, sadistic, mystical, and eloquent. These adjectives include most of the "despicables" that we can observe in his entire filmography.
Let's remember that Tarantino's history is full of "B" movies. That is to say, not the BlockBuster hits that we are all used to seeing in the movie theaters nowadays, no. In fact, his greatest influences come from his films. What's more, his greatest influences come from filmmakers who specialize in the lesser-known side of the film industry. Where genres such as Slasher, or Zombie horror have their greatest exponents. This fact amazed the mind of a young Quentin, who from his first film "Reservoir Dogs" marks the tempo of how his works will be. Full of eloquence, script work and violent but fair twists?
Desde el plano de los antagonistas, se puede decir, que sucede todo lo opuesto. En este renglón, Tarantino pone a prueba la nutrida escuela de films que consumió durante su muy marcada vida adolescente y en su adultez joven. Por eso es que las personas que hacen de villanos en sus películas calan tan hondo en nosotros. Dicho de otro modo, éstos poseen un magnetismo perfecto para la retina de la audiencia. Brillantes, con tonos sádicos, místicos, y elocuentes. En esos adjetivos entran la mayoría de "despreciables" que podemos observar en toda su filmografía.
Recordemos que la historia de Tarantino está repleta de películas de serie "B". Es decir, no de los éxitos de BlockBuster como los que solemos apreciar todos en las carteleras del cine actualmente, no. Es más, sus mayores influencias provienen de realizadores especializados en la cara menos conocida de la industria del cine. Donde los géneros como el Slasher, o el Zombie horror tienen a sus mayores exponentes. Este hecho maravilló la mente de un joven Quentin, que desde su primera película "Reservoir Dogs" nos marca el tempo de cómo serán sus obras. Llenas de elocuencia, trabajo de guión y giros violentos pero justos...

In his last film, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" we were silent spectators of a wonderful uchronia led by the hand of an author like our protagonist. At all times we were presented with the danger of death that the character played by Margot Robbie ran, and although based on real events, it took a different course in its wonderful final scene... You have to see it, if you haven't already.
Now, the powerful image that Tarantino's films have are another undeniable aspect to highlight within his work. Being, for me, the best of all since the direction of photography "Kill Bill". Have you ever gone into detail about the choreography needed to make those legendary shots? The level of lighting and how visually the liters and liters of exaggerated blood, far from making the film unbearable, keeps us glued, eyes glued to the screen. This guy is iconic, and I will never tire of saying it.
De hecho, este último aspecto, es junto a la elaboración de homenajes a la industria del cine americana, las dos más notorias influencias que podemos ver dentro del cine de este realizador. En su última película, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" fuimos espectadores silentes de una maravillosa ucronía llevada de la mano por un autor como nuestro protagonista. En todo momento se nos presentaba el peligro de muerte que corría el personaje que encarnó Margot Robbie, y aunque basada en hechos reales, tomó un rumbo distinto en su maravillosa escena final... Tienen que verlo, si aún no lo han hecho.
Ahora bien, la poderosa imagen que tienen los films de Tarantino son otro aspecto innegable de destacar dentro de su trabajo. Siendo, para mí, la mejor de todas desde la dirección de fotografía "Kill Bill". Tanto la primera como la segunda parte ¿Se han puesto a detallar las coreografías que se necesitaron para hacer esas tomas legendarias? El nivel de iluminación y cómo visualmente los litros y litros de sangre exagerada, lejos de hacer la película insoportable, nos mantiene pegados, con los ojos clavados a la pantalla. Este sujeto es un ícono, y no me cansaré de decirlo jamás.
Another aspect that I will highlight is that his characters are plausible. To put it more simply, what we see, which we know is fiction, connects perfectly with our perception of reality. And we see this, better than ever, in Inglourious Basterds. Where the magnanimous, unforgettable and unsurpassed, Hans Landa appears for the first time played by the genius of Christopher Waltz. We all know the Nazis and the Gestapo, and we all found the role and the character developed by Tarantino for that film impeccable. Without a doubt, this guy has a gift for writing and directing.

At first I was very resistant to Tarantino's films. Probably because much of his cinema is linked to the cinema consumed by men. But nothing could be further from the truth. My first love with this director was with Django and the role Dicaprio played as the slavering, cruel antagonist that gives meaning to that whole film.... Mesmerizing. To this day you can watch that movie 2000 times and 2001 still marvel as if it was the first time. Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, are some of the most acclaimed films by the specialized critics, but I decided not to talk about them so much because they are the best known...
Otro aspecto que voy a destacar es que sus personajes son verosímiles. Dicho de un modo más simple, lo que vemos, y que sabemos que es ficción; conecta perfectamente con nuestra percepción de realidad. Y esto lo vemos, mejor que nunca, en Bastardos Sin Gloria. Donde el magnánimo, inolvidable e insuperable, Hans Landa aparece por primera vez interpretado por el genio de Christopher Waltz. Todos conocemos a los nazis y a la Gestapo, y a todos nos pareció impecable el papel y el personaje desarrollado por Tarantino para ese film. Sin lugar a duda, este sujeto tiene un don para escribir y dirigir.
Al principio me resistía muchísimo al cine que hacía Tarantino. Probablemente, porque mucho de su cine está vinculado con el cine que consumen los hombres. Pero nada más lejano de la realidad. Mi primer amor con este director fue con Django y el papel que hizo Dicaprio como el antagonista esclavista y cruel que da sentido a toda esa película... Hipnotizante. Hasta el sol de hoy puede ver esa película 2000 veces y 2001 seguir maravillada como si fuera la primera vez. Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, son de las películas más aclamadas por la crítica especializada, pero decidí no hablar tanto de ellas porque son de las más conocidas...
Truth is that the homage cinema acquires another dimension with the entry of Tarantino in the early 90's. He immediately popularized the alternative as mainstream. Moreover, his films, one after another, enter the top ten films of all of us here in this community. I simply have no other choice but to surrender to his contribution to cinematography, to culture and to the way of making and understanding cinema. This is my vision and analysis. Lo cierto, es que el cine de homenaje adquiere otra dimensión con la entrada de Tarantino a principios de la década de los 90's. De inmediato popularizó lo alternativo como mainstream. Y la crítica lo amó sin reparos. Además sus films, uno tras otro, entran en el top ten de películas de todos los que estamos aquí en esta comunidad. Sencillamente, no me queda otra que rendirme ante su aporte a la cinematografía, a la cultura y al modo de hacer y entender el cine. Esta es mi visión y análisis.
