Branding CINE

Last Wednesday, the CINE staff had a live meeting session armed with slides and all. It was a thorough discussion about how we are going to present CINE going onwards. From our mission, vision, future plan to minute details like what graphics, color pallets we will use to decorate future media, what slogans we will use to build the community. This methodical approach was very important for the project as it clears up all the vagueness and brings everyone on the same page.

Special thanks to @papacrusher and @stickupboys for making and conducting the meeting.

Twitter reach is Increasing

Our persistent activities on Twitter increased our stats even more.

This was our stats on January 10

image.png

5K impression, nearly 900 followers, pretty decent, but look at how much it increased over the last 28 days!

image.png

And the jump is quite steady. In the last iteration of our newspaper, we mentioned our total impression of the last 28 days was 16.2K, which is now 21.1K, that's a 30% jump over the week!

Our followers are also increasing steadily. From 932 to 951 over the week.

Have you followed us on Twitter? Done already? Thanks! If not, follow here.

Cine Contest

With around 40 entries, our last contest "Movies that rocked your childhood!" was a massive success! We got to read some great pieces, we got to share some memories through them, we went on a nostalgic trip together! Thank you to everyone who joined the contest, without your input it wouldn't be possible.

We'll publish the contest result on Wednesday along with a new brand contest. And we have a feeling that you will love this one too. ;)

(Re)introducing Movie Watch Party!

On our discord server, we'll start streaming films each Sunday to watch together and have a nice jolly chat among the film lover folks. Of course, we will steer clear of copyrighted materials. For now, we'll show much loved silent-era comedy films from Chaplin, Keaton, Llyod, and so on. If you have not joined our discord server yet, fret not, for this link will surely land you there.

We'll start the show at 4:30 PM UTC/GMT, 11.30 AM EST.

weekly highlights.png

Apart from contest entries, last week we had a number of mentionable write-ups. It's great to see the community is buzzing with new life! Let's check out some of the posts together, shall we?

  • Cría Cuervos is one of the big names of Spanish cinema, from a giant of filmmaker Carlos Saura. Along with Luis Bunuel and Pedro Almodóvar, he forms the great director trio of Spanish origin. You can read a review of the film from this post penned by @hubeyma

  • and in this impressive write-up @geekgirl delves deep into the Snowpiercer tv show that derived from the movie of the same name made by oscar winner Korean director Bong Jun ho (Parasite).

Here I want to focus on John Williams, a renowned composer whose career spanned seven decades making film scores! He made scores for star wars, ET, Superman, Home Alone, Jurrasic Park, Harry Potter, and so on. He has 52 Oscar nominations in total, 5 wins! That is indeed crazy but what is crazier is that he's not a household name like many other people who are involved in films. Of course, that is because people cherish more what they can see, rather than what they hear, especially on screen. Some aspects of cinema and the people behind them usually do not get their deserved recognition by the mass.

John Williams was born on Feb 8, 1932, he's currently 92 years old.

Darren Aronofsky (Feb 12), on the other hand, needs no introduction. Highly educated in film literature, Aronofsky did make some much-talked films today. Of course, he is one of the polarized directors.

His films such as Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, Black Swan, The Wrestler, (not you Noah) and mother! have been topics of much debate among the filmgoing people. But hate him or love him, you can't deny his presence.

image.png

Masaki Kobayashi (February 14, 1916) is a Japanese art-house filmmaker generally revered highly by cinephile communities all over the world. If you haven't seen any of his work, his renowned trilogy "The Human Condition" might be a great place to start.

This is it for this week.

WE WILL RETURN.
