Mission accomplished and ready for the next one

This week I finally finished the task of emptying my mother's apartment. And what's more, we have already handed it over. Three and a half months and what at first seemed like an unattainable goal, with a lot of work and help from friends and family, is now a mission accomplished.

I'm so relieved, and even more so because I know my mother is happy with all this, even though I know that letting go of many things that were her world for the last 50 years must not have been easy. But she wisely told me: "I'm fine because I know that it is a cycle that I had to close. I was very happy there, but what it brought me lately was problems and a weight that I could no longer carry".

I didn't want to take pictures of an empty apartment as a memory of these days. I preferred to keep some pictures of the beautiful garden of the building.

In that garden I used to play when I was a child. And since then, the Ceiba tree was the king of the area. It has resisted over the years even though it has had to be pruned again and again, but it is still there, imposing.

My mother and her artist's mark remain in the garden. She recently donated to the condominium some of her ceramic pieces of art.

A ceramic doll and a vase remain there as a testimony to a happy life in that place.

On Thursday afternoon, after handing over the apartment, we went out for a nice meal and a beer to celebrate.

Linguine with shrimps and mushrooms at Pastas Dalidia and a Zulia beer were the perfect end to the day.

These coming days, I still have a lot to sort out at home.I have several boxes to unpack, but I'll take it easy. And every box I take out is a box that Mr. Milo takes as his own. 😸😹

This weekend, the plan was to rest, but it seems the car has sensed that the hard times of the last few months were over and has broken down. It was the clutch. So today I had to spend the day with the mechanic going back and forth looking for parts but fortunately after a long day the clutch was fixed. And now it's time to relax.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Thank you for reading.

Dunno what's behind emptying the apartment of your Mom... I missed your previous stories. But those things are powerful reminders of a life well-lived..

I have been away of Hive for the last few months because we decided to empty my mom's apartment and sell it. She is at my place.
The apartment was full of stuff, it was my parents' house all my life, she lived there for 53 years and accumulated a lot of stuff. Emptying it was an epic task lol. But no doubt as you say everything was a powerfull remider of a life well lived.

How have you been, as I have been away from Hive for some time I don't know about your life. Are you still at home?

I read your words with a deep sense of appreciation for what you went through during that time. Clearing out an apartment where your mother lived for fifty years is not an easy thing.

avatar

It wasn't easy but the right thing to do.
Thank you very much for stopping by. Happy Sunday!

I can imagine you must be exhausted, that was a major task! I'm sure both you and your Mom must have had mixed feelings when disposing of 53 years of living. Mostly a relief now that it's done, and your Mom can move on with her life and not have to worry about the responsibility that comes with owning property!
It must have been quite a task deciding what to do with her artworks.
I agree, I'd also not take photos of the empty apartment! The garden yes, still full of memories.
Someone told me to walk around and take a video inside while the house is furnished.
You can have a laidback Sunday now, take your time unboxing!
Enjoy the time together ❤️

One of the things that worried me the most was what to do with so many artworks, there were not only ceramic pieces but also paintings. I brought a lot but my apartment is small compared to the one my mom had, fortunately between family and friends we placed everything, I was stressed that we had to throw some of them away.

The other thing were the photos! they were in piles, I put all of them in boxes and I will take it easy to clean and digitize.

Enjoy the time together ❤️

And yes that's what I want to do these weeks before traveling to Bogota, enjoy some time with my mom and Milo at home. ❣️

Happy start of the week, Lizzie 🤗😘

Yes I am sorting photos and letters to give to family, and keeping the ones I want. I'll eventually scan my favourites. There are so many beautiful birthday and other special occasion cards, they're not easy to part with!
Have a lovely week Eli❤️

I'm happy that your mother had a positive outlook on leaving her lifelong home. I'm sure it was bittersweet for all of you. The next chapter of her life will be an adventure with you by her side. ♥

It is a bittersweet feeling to say goodbye to the house where I grew up, but I too feel relieved and ready for this new chapter of life.
Thank you for your lovely message.❣️

Sometimes it brings sadness to let go of things that we had memories with. But that's part of life and we need to move on☹️.

avatar

That's right, we need to adapt to changes and move on.
I hope you are well, hugs.

Clearing a home one was happy in is never easy, glad to hear you managed to get it completed, now to move onto the next adventure.

Once the mind is made up it is good to have many helping hands to assisting getting a move along.

That's right, having helping hands is a great blessing and in the case of a move that can make the difference between it being a nightmare or just a difficult task;)

Difficult to start, I suppose once you get going it gets easier. You did very well in short period of time.

I'm glad you're done. Your mother has taken the matter very wisely, it is not easy to have new beginnings when you are older, but there are steps that are necessary to take.

Thank you for sharing my dear @coquicoin . Happy day. A big hug from Maracay.

That's right my friend! I am so relieved that she is taking this new stage with such a good attitude.

Un gran abrazo! Feliz semana!

Thank you for sharing this big milestone with us. I can only imagine how emotional and exhausting it must’ve been to close that chapter, and yet how meaningful it must feel to know it’s done. Love the way you chose to remember the garden instead of the empty apartment, it's so moving. I'm glad that you celebrated with pasta and beer, sometimes those small pleasures hit just right after a long journey. I think it was the best choice. Wishing you plenty of peace and rest and smooth car rides in the days ahead. ♥️

Thank you very much for your good wishes and for stopping by.
