Like many of you, I also have my Netflix and Amazon Prime Video account. For some time I had an HBO Max account, not the other streaming platforms available today. Between the two, I prefer Amazon to watch movies (I like the quality of the available titles better) and Netflix for some series (Dark, 1899, Queen's Gambit), but more than 80% of the movies I watch come from other corners, film festivals, movie theaters, I get them on some other internet portals, especially when they are classic movies or from far latitudes of Hollywood. I feel like a lot of the content on Netflix is ​​similar to or lacks that extra bit that turns an entertaining movie into a memorable one. I remember being pleasantly surprised by The Half of It and Marriage Story, but they are exceptions in an ocean of predictable, flat, and - no offense to anyone - throwaway productions: watch them and throw them away before moving on to the next one. To pass the time, they are fine, or to accompany while cooking or just to watch something for the sake of watching it, but that's not the experience that many of us look for when we really want to see a movie.

Como muchos de ustedes, yo también tengo mi cuenta de Netflix y de Amazon Prime Video. Durante algún tiempo tuve cuenta de HBO Max, no así las de las demás plataformas de streaming disponibles hoy día. Entre las dos, prefiero la de Amazon para ver películas (me gusta más la calidad de los títulos disponibles) y Netflix para algunas series (Dark, 1899, Queen's Gambit), pero más del 80% del cine que consumo proviene de otros rincones, festivales de cine, salas de cine, las consigo en algunos otros portales de internet, especialmente cuando son películas clásicas o de latitudes lejanas de Hollywood. Siento que mucho del contenido de Netflix se parece o le falta ese extra que convierte a una película entretenida en una memorable. Recuerdo haberme sorprendido gratamente con The Half of It y Marriage Story, pero son excepciones en un océano de producciones predecibles, llanas y - sin ánimos de ofender a nadie - desechables: es verlas y botarlas antes de pasar a la siguiente. Para pasar el rato, están bien, o para acompañar mientras se cocina o simplemente para ver algo por verlo, pero no es esa la experiencia que muchos de nosotros buscamos cuando queremos realmente ver una película.

Personally, it seems to me that Amazon Prime Video has a better, broader and more varied offer, and I have liked some of its movies a lot (CODA, Argentina: 1985), but it's also insufficient for my favorite type of movies, those that come from remote times and distant corners of the world geography. Simply put, as a movie consumer, I had felt that these platforms left me with a cinematic void. And then MUBI came along.

En lo personal, me parece que Amazon Prime Video tiene una mejor oferta, más amplia y variada, y algunas de sus películas me han gustado mucho, (CODA, Argentina: 1985), pero también se me hace insuficiente ante mi tipo favorito de películas, esas que vienen de épocas remotas y rincones lejanos de la geografía mundial. MUBI began as a social network for moviegoers founded in 2007 and today is a streaming platform that displays a selection made by its curators on its front page. I had already seen and loved all three movies, which is why I didn't look for much more information until I wanted to see Aftersun, the moving film with Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio that's out in theaters, but only available via streaming on MUBI.

Everyone is free to express their opinion and obviously to make the decisions that seem most appropriate for their own life, but as far as I'm concerned, I prefer MUBI over any other streaming platform because it gives me exactly what I'm looking for in terms of cinema, the same thing that the competition has never been able to grant me: diversity of times and places and above all real Cinema, like this with a capital letter, the Cinema that lives up to the title of Seventh Art and that is increasingly scarce and more difficult to find on our screens these days.
