Si crees que esta película va de un coyote tratando de atrapar un correcaminos (Greater Roadrunner) créeme, SÍ, va de eso.

La chispa que enciende todo es un anuncio en la tele; un abogado promete reparar los daños sufridos por los personajes de dibujos animados. El Coyote, al verlo, revive en su mente el interminable viacrucis; un producto fallido tras otro, tras otro, tras OTRO, todos de la misma compañía maldita; la legendaria (y pésima) ACME. Harto de tanto yunque y dinamita defectuosa, abandona el desierto y se planta en la ciudad para encontrar a Kevin Avery (Will Forte), el letrado del comercial, y exigir justicia. Pero ojo, porque ACME no se va a quedar de brazos cruzados y ficha a un abogado defensor de cuidado; Buddy Crane (John Cena), que para colmo es el exjefe de Kevin. Y por si la batalla legal fuera poco, la cosa se enreda aún más con una investigación paralela; ¿qué pasó con el científico de ACME que desapareció de la noche a la mañana?

If you think this movie is about a coyote trying to catch a Greater Roadrunner, believe me, YES, it is about that.

The spark that sets everything off is a TV ad: a lawyer promises to repair the damages suffered by cartoon characters. The Coyote, upon seeing it, relives in his mind the endless ordeal: one faulty product after another, after another, after ANOTHER, all from the same cursed company: the legendary (and terrible) ACME. Tired of so many anvils and defective dynamite, he leaves the desert and heads to the city to find Kevin Avery (Will Forte), the attorney from the commercial, and demand justice. But watch out, because ACME won't sit idly by and hires a formidable defense lawyer: Buddy Crane (John Cena), who also happens to be Kevin's former boss. And as if the legal battle weren't enough, things get even more tangled with a parallel investigation: what happened to the ACME scientist who disappeared overnight?

🎥 ¿Por qué verla?

Mira, la respuesta es muy sencilla: nostalgia pura.
Da igual si viste esos dibujos hace veinte años o ayer; cada capítulo siempre te arranca una sonrisa. Ya sea por la terquedad infinita del Coyote, la velocidad endiablada del Correcaminos o porque, simplemente, a veces la física falla. Así funcionan las caricaturas, y punto.

Pero lo que hace especial a esta cinta (y ojo, porque no es como otras que mezclan animación y acción real) es que no solo es divertida, sino que además sorprende. Tiene un humor inteligente, un ritmo ágil, diálogos que enganchan y un reparto (de carne y hueso, y de tinta y pincel) que consigue que no puedas dejar de sonreír. Y por si fuera poco, la trama atrapa como un atrapamoscas ACME (pero de la vida real) y está llena de guiños que los fans de Warner van a disfrutar como locos.

Look, the answer is very simple: pure nostalgia.
It doesn't matter if you watched those cartoons twenty years ago or yesterday; every episode always brings a smile to your face. Whether it's for the Coyote's endless stubbornness, the Greater Roadrunner's devilish speed, or simply because sometimes physics just fails. That's how cartoons work, period.

But what makes this film special (and mind you, it's not like others that mix animation and live-action) is that it's not only fun, but also surprising. It has intelligent humor, a brisk pace, catchy dialogue, and a cast (both flesh-and-blood and ink-and-paint) that makes you unable to stop smiling. And as if that weren't enough, the plot hooks you like an ACME flytrap (but in real life) and is full of nods that Warner fans will absolutely love.

¿Sabías que esta película tiene más historia detrás que la propia trama? Porque sí, hay teorías, anécdotas y secretos a montones. El primero; la idea no nació en Hollywood, sino en las páginas de The New Yorker. Un tal Ian Frazier escribió un cuento satírico en 1990... ¡hace más de treinta años! Ese fue el germen de todo. Así que, pues, un aplauso para Ian.

Pero lo que realmente sorprende es cuando te enteras de que Warner Bros. quiso enterrar esta película. Así, sin más. La cancelaron por motivos que aún hoy no terminan de estar claros. Lo curioso es que, antes de condenarla al olvido, dejaron que el equipo la viera en una proyección privada. ¿El resultado? Todos quedaron con la boca abierta, sin entender cómo podían desechar algo tan bueno. Y entonces pasó lo que tenía que pasar: los fans (sí, la gente de a pie) y algunos de los propios creadores alzaron la voz y lucharon durante casi tres años para rescatarla. ¿Te suena? Exacto: el Coyote contra ACME, pero en la vida real. Team Coyote (los fans) vs. Acme (Warner). Y, como en las buenas historias, los buenos ganaron.

Vayamos por partes. Esta cinta es, ante todo, una comedia, pero con varias capas.
Por un lado, parodia el mundo de los juicios y las demandas judiciales, jugando con esa idea clásica del pequeño contra el gigante. Por otro lado, usa la técnica de mezclar dibujos animados con actores reales, algo que no es nuevo (técnica que tiene sus décadas, todo hay que decirlo), pero que aquí está muy bien logrado. Si tuviera que ponerle una etiqueta, diría que es una comedia para fans de los Looney Tunes y para quienes disfrutan de las películas de tribunales.

Ahora, no pienses que por tener ese aire de "comedia seria" va a abandonar el humor físico de toda la vida. Nada de eso. La película mantiene el espíritu del slapstick clásico: caídas, explosiones, yunques que caen, y una gravedad que aparece y desaparece cuando le viene en gana. Pero aquí está la novedad: a todo ese caos, le añade una capa de profundidad emocional. Y eso se nota, sobre todo, en los momentos en que el Coyote está en el tribunal. Imagínate su mirada después de tantos años de fracasos. Esa mezcla de humor y emoción es lo que la hace especial.

Let's go step by step. This film is, above all, a comedy, but with several layers.
On one hand, it parodies the world of trials and lawsuits, playing with that classic idea of the little guy against the giant. On the other hand, it uses the technique of mixing cartoons with live actors, something that's not new (a technique that's decades old, let's be honest), but here it's very well executed. If I had to put a label on it, I'd say it's a comedy for Looney Tunes fans and for those who enjoy courtroom movies.

Now, don't think that because it has that "serious comedy" air it's going to abandon physical humor altogether. Not at all. The film maintains the spirit of classic slapstick: falls, explosions, falling anvils, and gravity that appears and disappears at will. But here's the novelty: on top of all that chaos, it adds a layer of emotional depth. And that shows, especially in the moments when the Coyote is in the courtroom. Imagine his gaze after so many years of failure. That mix of humor and emotion is what makes it special.

La última vez que me enfrenté a una mezcla de animación y acción real fue con Looney Tunes y Brendan Fraser... y no pude terminarla. Así que, cuando vi el título de Coyote vs. Acme, lo primero que pensé fue: "otra vez no". Luego, me imaginé que sería un episodio largo de persecuciones entre el Coyote y el Correcaminos. Pero, para mi sorpresa, la película no es ni una cosa ni la otra. Es una historia bien armada, con cameos de personajes que sabía que existían pero que nunca había visto en acción, una trama original y un enfoque que "humaniza" a los dibujos animados de una manera que resulta muy divertida.

Eso sí, tengo que advertirte sobre algo importante; tuve la oportunidad de verla en versión original y en español, y la diferencia es abismal. Si estás acostumbrado a ver los Looney Tunes en español, no te resultará extraña. Pero si siempre los has visto en su idioma original y pruebas el doblaje... algo dentro de ti se va a romper. Y probablemente para siempre. Así que, si tienes la oportunidad, no lo dudes: elige la versión original. Vale la pena.

The last time I faced a mix of animation and live-action was with Looney Tunes and Brendan Fraser... and I couldn't finish it. So when I saw the title Coyote vs. Acme, the first thing I thought was: "not again." Then, I imagined it would be a long episode of chases between the Coyote and the Greater Roadrunner. But, to my surprise, the movie is neither one thing nor the other. It's a well-crafted story, with cameos from characters I knew existed but had never seen in action, an original plot, and an approach that "humanizes" the cartoons in a very funny way.

That said, I have to warn you about something important: I had the chance to watch it in both the original version and in Spanish, and the difference is abysmal. If you're used to watching Looney Tunes in Spanish, it won't feel strange to you. But if you've always watched them in their original language and you try the dubbed version... something inside you will break. And probably forever. So, if you have the chance, don't hesitate: choose the original version. It's worth it.
