Sin lugar a dudas, su mayor activo es la interpretación de Paul Walter Hauser como Michael Larson. Qué manejo del personaje. Hauser tiene un talento único para dar vida a excéntricos y marginados con una vulnerabilidad y una profundidad emocional que los aleja de cualquier cliché. Su trabajo dota al personaje de un registro humano que va desde la intimidad más frágil hasta la fachada más histriónica. Y son esos giros inesperados los que convierten a Larson en algo más que una simple anécdota de la cultura televisiva.
La recreación del ambiente del concurso ochentero también es un acierto visual. La película captura la estética, la iluminación y esa tensión artificial de la televisión de los 80 de forma tan efectiva que te sumerge por completo en la época.

Without a doubt, its greatest asset is Paul Walter Hauser's performance as Michael Larson. What a command of the character. Hauser has a unique talent for bringing eccentrics and outsiders to life with a vulnerability and emotional depth that keeps them away from any cliché. His work gives the character a human register that goes from the most fragile intimacy to the most histrionic facade. And it's those unexpected turns that turn Larson into something more than just a curious TV culture anecdote.
The recreation of the 80s game-show atmosphere is also a visual success. The film captures the aesthetic, the lighting and that artificial tension of 80s television so effectively that it completely immerses you in the era.
Perhaps the tension inherent in the real story could have been milked a little more. In some stretches, the narrative becomes predictable and drags on a bit too long. But Hauser holds the whole thing together with an empathy that makes the journey worthwhile.
