Descansar en paz - What we gave up or had to give up

The scenario revolves around a man who can afford to do anything for his family, but after economic problems in his business life, he borrows large sums of money from loan sharks and is unable to pay them back. In such a grave situation, the fact that the character uses every opportunity that comes his way does not change the fact that he has to face the inevitable end one way or another, and that he has to face the bitter truth.

The 2024 film Descansar en paz was remarkable for its character transitions, with Sergio Dayan having to live two different characters: a successful family man and a failed businessman. The beginning of the story, where family values and fondness for his children are told with as intense emotions as possible, was the enviable side of the warm and sincere picture until the moment when it was overshadowed by the failure of his business career.

The risks we take are, in fact, the ones we are ready to give up or have to give up. Any endeavor where there is a risk of losing is gambling to me, and in gambling the aim is to win, but the reality is that there is no choice but to lose. What is lost is sometimes material, sometimes immaterial; the most painful part is that it can be both material and immaterial.

Joaquin Furriel, who plays the character of Sergio Dayan, is the most important part of the expected and familiar picture, first as a successful and loving family man. While this attitude and behavior of his keeps the film's easiest scenes to watch, after the character is used by another event that takes place independently of the story; the film suddenly evolves.

After the new developments, the moments defined as the ones we give up or have to give up begin and the movie is divided into two parts: before and after. Joaquin Furriel, who gives life to the character of Sergio, does a very good job with his acting performance in both parts. The actor, who carries the burden of the whole story, perfectly reflects the character transitions by showing incredible differences in the moments when he is at peace with life and when he resents life.

I don't want to go into detail, but I would like to say that what I liked the most in the story is the difference between what we give up or what we have to give up. The use of even a slight wind that can blow in favor of the situation when the conditions are difficult shows the concept of advantage-disadvantage and the difference.

The fact that the intelligence that comes into play for a while turns into stupidity in the next moments changes the flow of the story, as well as the fact that when emotions come to the fore, the functioning of the wheels of reason and logic is disrupted. When it comes to business, I agree with the words to act professionally and think professionally, but I guess being a family man also requires professionalism!

It is impossible to limit the effects and consequences of an instant emotional decision. It may not be understood at the time, but emotional decisions often lead to realities with negative consequences. I am not saying that we should be free of emotions, but it is imperative, especially nowadays, not to ignore the consequences and to calculate everything.

I liked Descansar en paz a lot for the script, for the way the story was handled and especially for the transitions of Sergio's character. I didn't like the end of the story at all. I don't mean the disappointment at the end of a movie that doesn't end happily! It was Sergio's reunion with those he had given up, even if only for a while, when he returned to those he had given up, after all the giving up and the long years that had passed.

Although the movie instills a sense of revenge, it is quite inadequate and inconclusive. The desired father-daughter meeting does not take place despite the invitation, leaving the story incomplete. Except for the final scenes at the end of the movie, it was good, but those last 5 minutes took away a lot. I still recommend watching the movie, who knows, maybe you will like it!

Thank you for being here and reading. I wish everyone who will see the movie a good time. Have a good weekend and goodbye!
