Detective vs Sleuths (San taam daai zin) || The hand that turned into a gun!

In my childhood, one of the street games I played the most with my friends was "gunplay.'' We would hold the index finger forward and the thumb upwards and squeeze the remaining fingers into a fist to form a pistol and try to shoot our friends who were hiding.

We used our hands as weapons because we couldn't have toy guns and because of the possibility of wood and wooden objects turning into wounding objects if they fell while running or jumping over walls.

Later on, I started to see this gesture more often on green fields, i.e. in football matches. In the case of goals scored from a distance or from a free kick, footballers hold their hands in the shape of a gun in the manner of a sniper, pretending to shoot, and blow their index finger with the impression of cooling the smoke from the fired gun.

What reminded me of all this was the 2022 Hong Kong movie Detective vs Sleuths, which I watched today.

Jun Lee (played by Lau Ching-Wan), who believes he is the chosen detective and can talk to victims unseen by others, was the character who made the sign that looked like a gun.

Initially resembling a psychopath and believed by those around him to have schizophrenic symptoms, Jun Lee speaks to unseen victims and repeats their words himself throughout the movie. In this way, at the beginning of the film, I had the impression that I was watching a theater and not a movie.

The movie starts with a rather boring character who looks like a psychopath, talking to himself and constantly firing a gun that doesn't exist, and then it turns into a great mystery and crime genre. Actually, I don't find the gun movement boring and weird because I did the same movement hundreds of times in my childhood. Lololol.

I must add that after watching Detective vs Sleuths, I admired Lau Ching-Wan's acting, regardless of the character he plays. The way he fights for the values he believes in and the way he fights for the values he believes in was also worth watching. Even though her messages about not responding to evil with evil seem to be values that most of us believe in, we know that we all have difficulty in realizing them.

The only scene in the movie that I could criticize was when the pregnant woman dressed as a detective gave birth during the shootout. This scene reminded me of Alicia Sierra, the police chief in La Case De Papel, who is pregnant and gives birth out of the blue. It seems to have been inspired from there, but I can't say that it was too grinning.

I have a lot of positive reflections about the movie and I have to say that I think it's fantastic. I recommend without hesitation to watch it, I think it is worth the time and you want the movie to go on and on. It gives you a twist at the end and you get the flavor of watching the movie.
