From Virtual World to Real World (Gran Turismo)

One of the common points of competitive sports movies is their success-oriented storylines. Starting from scratch, climbing up the ladder of success and finally reaching the top is like the unchanging rule of the story. What changes is the sports branch - the place where the story takes place - the person whose success story is told and the accompanying cast.

I finally had the chance to watch Gran Turismo, which was released in theaters about a month ago. The movie is based on the video game of the same name and is inspired by the real life of a young man named Jann Mardenborough.

I can't say I wasn't surprised to learn that the story of the movie was inspired by real life, because the story fits the fiction better. It has the outrageous idea of putting simulation racers in real cars and having them compete against professionals on real tracks.

In video games you can do whatever you want. Even if the car you're driving does ten somersaults, even if you smash your opponent's face in, even if you hit every moving target with the sniper rifle you own, you haven't harmed anyone. You leave the game and go back to real life.

It's as simple as that!

It seems crazy to me to create a real character in a story that goes from virtual world to real world, from simulation races to races on real tracks. I'm not complaining as a viewer though, because when it comes to cinema, it's the most natural behavior to look for craziness. Regardless of the genre, be it #action, sci-fi or #adventure, it is obvious that exaggeration and #craziness will always attract more viewers.

Jann Mardenborough, who spent almost most of his adolescence in front of the computer and playing video games, reminds me of Cinderella with his life competing against professionals on real tracks. It must be incredible to have a life that can only happen in fairy tales. Archie Madekwe, who played Jann Mardenborough, was both successful in his acting and attracted attention with his resemblance to the person he portrayed.

At the end of the movie, it was informed that Jann Mardenborough did his own stunt. I think they were referring to the in-car scenes. The engine sounds and in-car visuals in those scenes were great.

It was disturbing that there was so much hidden advertising placement that it overshadowed the movie. Although the excitement of the races and the sound of the engines of the vehicles thinned the veil of shadow, I don't know to what extent it was necessary. I'm surprised that well-known brands are trying to appear so unattractive. It may have been necessary for the producers to meet the budget of the movie, but I don't think the same can be said for the brands. For example, who doesn't know about PlayStation?

The movie is not a biopic. Knowing that the fiction, which I think is great, has a true story adds to the pleasure of watching it. I recommend you to watch the movie, it is definitely a very successful production. It is worth your time and money! You will have much more fun if you don't get caught up in the hidden advertisement placements like me. Have a good time already!

And let me make a warning about the movie! If you watch the movie with your kids they will ask you for a steering wheel set, I guarantee it!
