The Black Phone || Captive children of the basement

After watching 3096 Tage, which can be seen as a psychological thriller and horror when you think about it, this was the second time I watched a movie that kidnapped a child and imprisoned him in a private room in the basement.

Fortunately, unlike 3096 Tage, the fact that it was not a fact-based production and a successful film built on fiction put the word horror on the shelf.

The movie I'm talking about, The Black Phone, made in 2021, is in the genre of thriller, horror and is about a group of 12-13 year old children who are kidnapped and murdered one by one.

It's nice that the movie is based on fiction and has nothing to do with reality, but psychologically it's hard not to dwell on the possibility that this could be real. Our concerns are that we don't know exactly how safe the streets are and what kind of people are walking around. Especially for our children, who we think may not yet be successful enough in protecting themselves, time spent outside increases the risk.

When I think about all this in detail while watching the movie, dozens of conspiracy theories come to my mind. For example, in the movie 3096 Tage, the girl who was imprisoned as a child was freed by her own efforts when she came of age and this story was the real life of Austrian Natascha Kampusch.

Mason Thames' performance as Finney in The Black Phone was worth watching. Finney, the latest abductee, was guided by the spirits of other children who had been abducted and murdered before him through a phone that didn't work and said some words that seemed strange at first, reflecting the tension in the form of a puzzle.

Being a part of the puzzles while watching the movie adds to the pleasure of watching it... and the way every word fell into place at the end was the most delicious part of the movie.

Inexplicably seeing the future in dreams or connecting with someone who is no longer alive is a part of the fiction that is harmonized with real life. Guiding someone with words alone, suggesting an idea that has never occurred to them and never will, is as important as physical help.

I thought of these scenes in the movie as mentoring and had preconceptions about how helpful they could be.

I recommend anyone with the time to spare to watch The Black Phone. It was good to watch the story of Finney, who seems like a coward when the odds are stacked against him, but who rises to the heights of courage when the odds change...

... and at the end of the movie you realize the importance of being a family, but not from the children's point of view, but from a father's point of view!
