The Promised Land - Chasing Dreams

I find it valuable for people to follow their dreams. I believe that everyone should do their best to fulfill their dreams, regardless of the outcome. It doesn't matter if you succeed or not, what is valuable is the effort and the price paid to realize the dream.

Ludvig Kahlen, a lonely soldier, is a man following his dreams. Mads Mikkelsen, who gives life to him, is the actor of the character who does not hesitate to jeopardize his life, even financially, to realize his dream.

To take part in such a story, you need to be a guest in the mid-1700s, in the time of King Frederik V of Denmark. The 2023 movie The Promised Land provides the audience with this opportunity.

My first thoughts after watching the movie were that Mads Mikkelsen, who plays the character of Ludvig Kahlen, did an excellent job. He adds a lot of value to the film with his strong personality that does everything to make a barren land fertile with the permission of the king, to ensure that the desired product is grown on it and to make it compatible with colonization.

The effort is not about harmonizing the land in terms of productivity and planting potatoes. In addition to cultivating the land and growing crops on it, he struggles with many personal and natural problems. He puts his life on the line in many of the problems he encounters.

What I like most about The Promised Land is that there are many additions to the story. Although the main theme is to follow a dream and make all the sacrifices that can be made for it, the script is kept quite broad by adding personal relationships, interests, goals and love to the movie. This has the positive effect of not getting bored at any moment of the movie.

A few scenes at the end of the movie raise the question of whether all we do for the sake of dreams is worth it. I am sure everyone will have a different answer to this question, but my answer is that it is definitely worth it.

It doesn't make sense to me to give up on dreams that have been built for a long time when you are about to achieve them or have achieved them. There is this kind of irrationality in the movie, but I can say with peace of mind that it is justified because it is in harmony with the story.

I must admit that I liked the locations and costumes used in terms of their historical value. The atmosphere created takes you on a journey back in history. And unfortunately, despite the long years that have passed, it makes it clear that there is no change in what people can do for the sake of self-interest.

I highly recommend you to watch The Promised Land, as it is a good example of how far mankind has come in agriculture. To what extent can the subtle details that make dreams come true or not come true play an influential role in the lives of many people? In order to understand this, I think it is necessary to take a close look at the lives of those who dreamed the dream and the other lives they gathered around them to make it come true. So I wish everyone who will watch it a good time.
