The 2019 film Traumfabrik is a movie within a movie. Rest assured that I am not misleading anyone with this information because the story of the movie is really about the love that sprouts during the shooting of a movie and reaches its climax during the shooting of another movie.

In fact, this story belongs to only two characters and the whole effort is to reunite them. The reasons that first brought our heroes together, then separated them and focused on their reunion are based on historical events.

In 1961, the Berlin crisis was the wall that separated the protagonists of Traumfabrik. After Emil returns from the army, he finds it difficult to find a job and starts working as an extra for a movie. The character of Emil (played by Dennis Mojen) is a reckless man ready to make all the sacrifices for his love. Dennis Mojen does a marvelous job of portraying the recklessness I'm talking about. From the first moment he sees her to the last moment when he is about to give up, he gives a great acting performance and makes you feel that everything he does is for the sake of the woman he loves.

Milou (played by Emilia Schüle), a dancer on the film shoot, was warm and sympathetic as the woman in love. Her acting is excellent, but when you watch the movie you expect more from her character and when this expectation is not met you feel that something is missing. Constantly expecting sacrifice from the other side gets boring after a while. Emilia Schüle's character Milou, a French dancer, is sometimes quite boring and unbearable, but with the last scene, I think she managed to win the hearts of everyone watching.

Focusing on the love between Emil and Milou, the movie takes the story to a new dimension by adding external factors to the rapid transitions between the two. One of these external factors is, of course, the Berlin wall, but I liked the fact that when the Berlin wall is overcome, the existence of another wall is revealed, even though it causes momentary disappointment, it adds excitement. Of course, I will not mention all the external factors, you need to watch the movie to see each of them.

What I liked the most in the movie was the way Emil and Milou made subtle calculations about the possibility of meeting again after their separation. Actually, we watch these calculations mainly from Emil's side. It seemed impossible for the two, separated by the border line in the middle with no phone or address, to meet each other.

The only hope was the application of Milou and his team for the shooting of the movie Cleopatra. It was wonderful to watch desperation and hope tied to a single point at the same time. The filming of Cleopatra, which took place within the filming of Traumfabrik, turned into a visual show.

I highly recommend watching Traumfabrik, a movie where drama and romance are intertwined. Pursuing hope, which is almost non-existent, and staying within the plans can lead to sacrifice and developing different perspectives. Sometimes less can be replaced by more and you can believe in miracles.
