X-Men (2000) Film Review/Thoughts

I showed my son X-Men the other day and man, I'm glad I did. Couldn't tell the last time I actually watched this was. Life was wayyyyyyyyyyy different when I did. What a great classic film that I feel is maybe underrated.

X-Men did such a great job at everything I feel. It was mysterious, funny, dramatic, and action packed. I think it clearly influenced future superhero films. X-Men really set an awesome foundation and standard. I feel as though Guardians of the Galaxy borrowed a lot from X-Men, in a roundabout sort of way.

X-Men impressed me with how smooth the story flowed and the acting was pretty good as well. Magneto and Charles Xavier are such a great combo of villain and good guy.

The whole storyline of Senator Robert Kelly was pretty fascinating and gritty. Hugh Jackman is the perfect Wolverine and always will be. Just brilliant.

The overall graphics in X-Men are still very impressive and I particularly loved the end scene. The battle with Wolverine and Sabretooth fighting on the Statue of Liberty and ultimately Cyclops saving the day through truly total teamwork was lovely and pretty slick. Mystique is also a brilliant villain.

The overall nostalgia this movie brought was awesome. I used to say Wolverine and Spider Man were my favorite heroes as a kid. I watched X-2 way more since it came out at the perfect time for me. I watched X-Men before but, overall, much less often. To be able to share this movie with my son means a lot. I typically think Spider-Man as the first sort of 'new generation' superhero movie. I think it might actually be X-Men. For me anyway.

X-Men is a rock solid 9 out of 10!

Think I'll be watching X-2 soon. That's gonna be very VERY trippy.

I love this movie and I hope I'm not exaggerating with what I'm about to say, but I think X-MEN, along with Donner's Superman and Burton's BATMAN, changed or influenced in a positive way for comic book-based filmmaking.

I think it's great that you can share it with your son and I know he will enjoy the sequel even more.
