Karma Says~Movie Review
Many people say horror movies are their best but I dislike them but you see dark movies? I love them because they show you the real issues going on in societies.
This movie literally got me tearing up mostly because I have never seen a Nollywood movie production gathering the balls to show the dark side of life that this movie showed. Because of a truth, not everything is rosy. I bring you the review of the movie: Karma Says
See, if you’ve ever doubted that secrets have a way of crawling out no matter how well it is hidden, Karma Says will shake you up and remind you that life has a way of revealing things in mysterious ways.
This movie had Daniel Etim, Bambam Adenibuyan(my all-time favourite), and Gills Okeke featured.
Plot Summary
The movie opens on a chilling note. We see a young girl screaming out of sheer terror in what looks like a hospital ward.
That scary scene, sets the stage for what at first feels like a family drama but quickly metamorphoses into something far darker.
We meet Onore (played by Bambam Adenibuyan). She is a devoted wife and mother, who dotes on her little boy. She seems like the picture of pure domestic bliss. She takes her son to school, returns home to quietly work on bead designs. But we see her husband, Justin (Daniel Etim), a man who insists she must not work because, according to him, he is providing for the family.
So, Onore tries to hide her small bead-making hustle from him. For me, this shows that there are cracks in their “perfect” marriage.
Things then begin to take a turn when Anita moves into the neighborhood. She arrives with a moving van, scanning her new environment in a way that feels kind of unsettling.
At first, Anita comes across as sneaky, looking very suspicious. But she quickly befriends Onore, who is starving for companionship in her controlled marriage. The two women bond and soon Onore is confiding in Anita, her fears.
She suspects that Justin is cheating on her after overhearing a woman calling his name in the background of a phone call.
What seemed like a typical Nollywood family drama: you know, cheating husband, suspicious wife, new neighbor, bla bla bla, now takes a shocking twist during a dinner that Justin arranges.
In an attempt to “assess” Anita, he tells Onore to invite her over. But what should have been polite small talk turns into a revelation that tears everything apart.
Anita lays bare her truth, proving that Justin is not an ordinary man. He is a predator who once lured her 16-year-old daughter with money, introduced her to drugs, abused her sexually, and left her with HIV. The girl’s life turned for the worst. She committed an abortion that destroyed her womb, and she carried a trauma that Anita herself couldn’t escape from.
It’s such a heavy, heartbreaking moment. For Onore, it is almost unbelievable. Her loving, protective husband is capable of such evil?
But the weight of Anita’s story forces her to confront the truth.
When she gets tested and discovers that she too is HIV positive, the heartbreak becomes so unbearable. The man she trusted with her life had betrayed her in ways that were too deep to heal.
By the end, justice catches up with Justin.
Movie Review
What makes Karma Says compelling to me, is not just its shocking plot but the way it ties suspense, morality, and raw emotions all together.
The film tackles real societal issues. Like, the way patriarchy silences women, the stigma around HIV, the dangers of unchecked power, and the trauma that abuse leaves behind. It’s not just a story but a mirror held up to society’s darkest corners. For every reason, I saw the cracks in the way Justin controlled Onore’s life.
He looked like someone who always wanted to use the weakness of women to show control.
This also goes on to say that parents should inculcate the value of contentment in their kids. The fact that your child cannot access some of this now should not make them look for it outside.
If you’re looking for a Nollywood film that mixes family drama, suspense, and a strong moral punch, Karma Says is worth your time. It is not just entertainment; it’s a wake-up call about the hidden sins people commit and the reality that, eventually, karma says it all.
