Speed, a real revenge story, overcoming challenges, a a great friendship and your next sunday movie—these are the themes of the movie I'll be talking about today.

If you're a speed enthusiast, you know how difficult it can be to find movies that cater to that taste (at least, that's how it is for me). That's why I've decided to create a series of posts where I review the latest automotive films (the most recent one was Gran Turismo). Some of them I've really enjoyed, while others not so much, so I'll save you the trouble.

In this installment, we have to travel back to the 1960s. It was during this time that an epic rivalry emerged, pushing the boundaries of design and engineering of the era: The battle between Ford and Ferrari. The biggest car manufacturer of the time going head-to-head with the reigning kings of racing. We're transported to a period when Ford was losing market share and needed to maintain its prestige. In an audacious move, they attempted to acquire Ferrari. The Italians were pursuing perfection in their engines, and they had achieved it, but it left them bankrupt. However, Ford's maneuver didn't go as planned. They ended up being humiliated by the Italians, and Fiat emerged as the winner by becoming the owner of Ferrari's sales division. Faced with these events, Ford's executives, with their pride wounded, were determined to showcase American power and, in the process, put an end to Scuderia's reign in motorsports.

To accomplish this mission, they hire Carroll Shelby, a former race car driver, engineer, and car designer, who brings along the eccentric British driver Ken Miles. Together, they set the goal of putting the fastest car on the track that can defeat Ferrari. In motorsports, obstacles and challenges are a daily occurrence (just like in life, right?). The duo of Shelby and Miles will have to overcome bureaucratic barriers, internal tensions, and, above all, the pressure of time. Will they be able to end Scuderia's dominance? Can they etch the name of the American giant into such a storied history?

"Ford v Ferrari" premiered two years ago. It's rated PG-13 (may contain material not suitable for children under 13) and has a runtime of 152 minutes (if you're not into this type of movie, you might get bored). It can be classified as a biographical drama with a hint of action, and perhaps it's the movie you're looking for on a peaceful Sunday. I must also mention that the film won two Academy Awards in 2020. Here are my thoughts, but ultimately, you decide.

Hey, I'd appreciate your opinion if you've seen this movie.

(Warning: Potential spoilers ahead)

This movie really nails the perfect blend of emotions and racing. They did a damn good job developing the characters, I gotta say. The performances by Matt Damon and Christian Bale deserve major props. Both actors bring their A-game, with Damon portraying a charismatic, cool-headed Shelby. He's all methodical and calculated, you know? On the other hand, Bale takes on Miles, who's fiery, impulsive, and intensely passionate. But let me tell you, they both managed to convey their love for racing, their drive to create the fastest damn car out there. And for me, that's one of the film's biggest draws—the chemistry between these two. No matter how messed up things get, Miles trusts the car developed by Shelby, and Shelby trusts that Miles will do whatever it takes to secure the victory. It's all about that unwavering belief in each other, man.

When it comes to the technical aspects, I gotta give a shoutout to the excellent cinematography that immediately transports us back to the 1960s. From the cultural vibes to the cars themselves (man, they were so well portrayed—I felt like hopping into a time machine and going back myself), everything screams that era. One great example is the still raw Le Mans competition (if you've seen Gran Turismo, you'll notice the many differences that race has gone through). Another thing I really liked is how they recreated the racing scenes flawlessly, providing an immersive and adrenaline-packed experience for the viewer. You feel like you're right there with Miles in the car, and at times, his spirit just resonates with you, creating a strong connection with the characters.

What I appreciated the most about this movie was how they captured the excitement and adrenaline of racing, but throughout the film, the characters were given deep and meaningful development. We get to see a more personal side of Ken Miles, where they show his family life, motivations, and challenges. They humanized the characters, you know? It's not your typical rags-to-riches story where someone becomes a champion after a lot of sacrifice. It's something different, and that makes you root for this duo even more, building a strong connection with them.

When it comes to the technical stuff, I gotta highlight the kickass cinematography that takes us straight back to the groovy '60s from the get-go. They nailed the whole vibe of that era, from the culture to the cars (damn, they were portrayed so well, I felt like hopping in a time machine and cruising back myself, you know?). Everything just oozes that period's flavor. And let me tell you, the Le Mans race they depicted, it still had that raw and rugged feel (if you've played Gran Turismo, you'll notice how much that race has changed over the years). Another thing that really got me pumped was how they recreated the racing scenes. It's like they put you right in the driver's seat with Miles, man. Sometimes, you can almost feel his spirit jumping into you, creating this wicked connection with the characters.
But yo, the thing I loved the most about this movie was how they captured the sheer thrill and adrenaline of racing. And here's the kicker, throughout the film, the characters go through some deep and meaningful development. We get to see a more personal side of Ken Miles, bro. They show us his family life, his motivations, and the challenges he faces. They humanized these characters, you feel me? It's not your typical underdog story where someone overcomes obstacles and becomes a champion. Nah, man, it's something way more different and special. That's what makes you root for this duo even harder, forming a real deep connection with them.

If we think about it more analytically, "Ford vs Ferrari" is a great blend of automotive excitement and personal growth. It's thrilling and masterfully executed, with solid direction and a real-life story behind it, offering an exciting and captivating cinematic experience. If you're a car enthusiast, into racing and speed, you'll undoubtedly enjoy this film as much as I did. And if you're looking for an inspiring story that evokes genuine emotions, you'll also find it here.
Oh, and if you're looking for a happily-ever-after kind of story, well, this ain't the movie for you.
To wrap it up, I gotta tell you, this movie is one of my favorites in the genre. It's an inspiring story that you might even relate to, and if not, the cinematography is top-notch. I could give you a thousand reasons why I enjoyed this film so much, but I'll dial down the hype and simply invite you to watch it. I truly believe it's a great choice for a Sunday movie marathon.
If you've seen the movie, what do you reckon about my opinion? Are you like Miles, never giving up on your dreams no matter how tough things get? Have you achieved any Ken Miles-style victories? Or are you more of a Carroll Shelby type? As always, it's a pleasure reading your comments.

Catch you in the next installment to keep talking about cars in movies!

Has logrado alguna victoria al estilo Ken Miles?

I think I did a review of this movie some time ago. I'm not a big fan of cars, this kind of movies don't arouse much passion in me, but there was a movie that made me feel some excitement for the world of car racing, it's called Rush and it's directed by Ron Howard.

I'm not a big fan of cars

With this phrase you said it all, in my country there is a phrase for that: to each their own (para gusto los colores )

What genre do you enjoy the most?

Ford vs Ferrari appealed to motorsport fans and especially to racing fans, because it tells us about the time when Ferrari dominated Le Mans and Ford suddenly ended that dominance, passing Ford to dominate several consecutive years. For now the only way we have to travel to those years is through these films, this one in particular is very well set in the era, but it is not for everyone.

As for Rush you are very right, it is a great movie and soon my review of it will come, I would love for you to read my review of Rush (in the near future) and tell me what you think?😉

Thank for readme 🙏🏻

I will look forward to your review of Rush.

By the way, I recently saw the movie Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend, but I didn't think it brought anything new to the table, lots of clichés. I didn't want to review it.

I want to see Ferrari, directed by Michael Mann and starring Adam Driver.

I like almost all genres, movies in general. I care that it's a good story and that it touches me emotionally. When I refer to cars, it's that I don't have a passion for those machines, like most men who love an engine. I barely know how to change a wheel. 😆

The Lamborghini movie is poorly conceived from the start, the movie is based on what his son wrote and maybe you haven’t read that book but his son and him didn’t have much in common, so you can imagine the final result, but since it’s a movie about cars I would like to do the review, but there is very little to highlight.

I’m also looking forward to the Ferrari movie, it’s almost here 😁

I was checking your profile a little bit 🙊 and I must say you are very good at reviewing movies 👌🏻, from now on I will visit your posts more often I liked the way you write and everything from your opinion.

It has been a great pleasure that you comment on my post, before looking for a review on the internet I already know where to look first 😉

avatar

Yes, very little to note about that Lamborghini movie. I was a bit disappointed when I saw it. I'll wait for the Ferrari release, I liked the trailer.

By the way, I got to thinking about movies where cars are a major factor and I've seen a lot of them.

What do you think about Fast and Furious? well, I'm sure you'll make a review of that saga too hahahaha.

thanks for your words, I like to write my opinion, my point of view about the story and the message, trying not to give spoilers and that the agent is interested to see the movie. I liked your post because you give your personal opinion, that's what I look for in movie reviews.
