Pure automotive history, revenge, intrigue, innovation, and the pursuit of perfection, with a lot of passion for engines.

It's almost impossible not to know the luxury car brand Lamborghini, the eternal competitors of Ferrari. Are you a fan of history? Do these cars catch your attention? Today's movie is for you.
The first time I saw the trailer for Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend, it sparked great curiosity in me, not because of the trailer itself, but because of the story it would tell. Although I'm familiar with the famous "Lambos," I didn't know the story of their founder. This movie promises to introduce you to Ferruccio Lamborghini.

As a car enthusiast, I watched it as soon as it premiered last year (2022). A few days ago, I watched it again, so why not review it here.
Before us, we have a film of approximately 100 minutes (so you know). As in other cases, the movie is a biographical drama. The main director of the project was Robert Moresco (Crash). Bringing Ferruccio Lamborghini to the big screen was assigned to Frank Grillo ( ), we have Mira Sorvino (as Annita), and a brief appearance by Gabriel Byrne (as Enzo Ferrari).

The movie narrates the life and work of Ferruccio Lamborghini (yes, the founder of you-know-what). But it's not just any movie, it was based on the biographical book written by his son Tonino. The film is divided into chapters, showing us the most decisive moments of Ferruccio's life and everything that led him to create the supercars we know today.

We start in Ferruccio's youth, just after returning from World War II. Upon his return, he saw the opportunity to create his own tractor brand (yes, that's where the legacy began). Then we jump through the years, until we reach the foundation of Automobili Lamborghini and the birth of the iconic Miura (a beautiful car in my personal opinion), ending with the sale of the company due to the oil crisis that hit Europe.
The film culminates with Tonino presenting his biography, which gave rise to this movie. Of course, I left out some interesting details to make you watch the film.

Upon learning that Bobby Moresco was the director, I got excited because I knew this director had won an Oscar in the past (with Crash in 2004). Although they attempted to illustrate the most important aspects of Ferruccio Lamborghini's life, I think the execution is somewhat superficial and uninspired. If you read a bit about Ferruccio online, you'll understand that there was a lack of depth in some very important events in his life.
I feel that the movie simply presents the events without creating an emotional connection between the audience and the characters (at least that's how I felt). In my opinion, it falls short. They could have shown more of Lamborghini's other facets, such as his visionary and rebellious genius.

After reading Tonino's biography, I came to the conclusion that the screenplay is faithful to the book. It was written by the director himself, but it lacks exploration of relevant topics, such as the early days of the brand, the innovations they brought to the automotive world, or delving a bit more into Ferruccio's personal relationships with his family.
In favor of the movie, it must be said that the music and cinematography are excellent. Both create a magnificent atmosphere, initially transporting us to post-war Italy, showcasing the beautiful locations characteristic of the country. These aspects should also be added to the production design, which faithfully recreates the environments of Ferruccio Lamborghini's time, as well as the factories and cars he built.

I don't think the movie does justice to the figure that Ferruccio Lamborghini was, a man who changed the history of cars. We can conclude that this film doesn't bring anything new to the genre and wastes a good opportunity to tell the story behind the true legend.
Despite my opinion, I believe that if you're looking for a movie about cars and the automotive industry, this can be an option to get a glimpse of the history of this Italian brand (remember, don't just rely on this movie, search online, read, or watch videos about Lamborghini, I assure you it will surprise you).

And that's the end of this review of Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend. If you watch it, I would love to hear your opinion.

If you've already seen it, what did you think?

See you next time!

I love movies based on true story, with that being said, I think I am going to watch it.

I agree with you about the music and the photography. There was a lack of depth to the man's life.

The way they cut the opening scene with the flashbacks really upset me. It's anticlimactic.

To pass the time it's fine and that the movie encourages the viewer to look up information, read or watch documentaries about this character's accomplishments.

I don’t know why they edited the scenes like that, it was a bad decision. The first time I saw it, the critics were saying things like this that we are talking about and after seeing it I confirmed that, but the book does go much deeper into Ferruccio’s story.

If you are someone who knows nothing about the history and you are curious about the title, you might like it and have a good time, but you have to look for more information because Lamborghini’s story is huge and they didn’t know how to capture it.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting 🙏🏻

Ok, I saw the poster last year too but, I was skeptical about watching it. Nice review btw

Give it a chance, it all depends on what kind of viewer you are.
I knew the story of Ferruccio (because I love engines) so I noticed the mistakes and flaws of the movie, but if you’re not as picky as me, you can have a different time. That said, the story is much bigger than what the movie tells.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it if you watch it 😁

Thanks for reading and commenting 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Saludos.
