1883 a story of pioneers, love and danger [ENG/SPA]

Cheers cinephiles, as I commented in my previous post, this review will deal with what is presumably a prequel to the Yellowstone series, which in turn also has another prequel which is titled '1923' which I already reviewed. I thought it convenient to also watch this series to get all the context and then watch 'Yellowstone' which started in 2018-2022, but both 1883 (2021) and 1923 (2023) are series that premiered later, so it's nice to be able to come across this story in this chronological order.

1883 una historia de pioneros, amor y peligro

Saludos cinefilos, como comente en mi publicacion previa, esta reseña tratará sobre lo que presuntamente es una precuela de la serie Yellowstone, que a su vez tambien tiene otra precuela que se titula '1923' la cual ya reseñe. Creí conveniente ver también esta serie para tener todo el contexto y luego ver 'Yellowstone' que inició en 2018-2022, pero tanto 1883 (2021) y 1923 (2023) son series que se estrenaron luego, así que es bueno poder encontrarme con esta historia en este orden cronológico.

As I mentioned in my previous review, the stories of the Wild West for me have no loss, I don't remember having seen any that I didn't like, the only one that left me a bit surprised was the film Cowboys & Aliens with a tremendous cast but with an innovative proposal, the fact is that most of these stories for me are entertaining and under this premise I had all my hopes set on seeing 1883, I also wanted to know more about the origins of the Dutton family.

Como comentaba en mi anterior reseña, las historias del lejano oeste para mi no tiene perdida, no recuerdo haber visto alguna que no me gustara, la única que me dejó un tanto extrañado fue la película Cowboys & Aliens con un tremendo elenco pero con una propuesta innovadora, el caso es que la mayoría de estas historias para mi son entretenida y bajo esta premisa tenía todas mis ilusiones puestas en ver 1883, además deseaba saber mas de los orígenes de la familia Dutton.

1883 is a story told from the perspective of Elsa Dutton starring Isabel May, a young woman who, thanks to a hard journey from Texas to the north of the country, must mature quickly, becoming a woman due to circumstances. She learns about what love is, hard work, the death of a loved one, who represents god to her, and the strengthening of family relationships.

1883 es una historia contada desde la perspectiva de Elsa Dutton protagonizada por Isabel May, una joven que gracias a un duro viaje desde Texas al norte del país, debe madurar con rapidez, convertirse en una mujer debido a las circunstancias. Aprende sobre qué es el amor, el trabajo duro, la muerte de un ser querido, que representa dios para ella, y el fortalecimiento de las relaciones familiares.

The series doesn't explain why, but Elsa accompanied by her father James Dutton played by Tim McGraw, her mother Margaret Dutton played by Faith Hill and younger brother John Dutton by Audie Rick, travel from Tennessee to Texas and then go in search of better lands to the north of the country, apparently the reason for their trip is to colonize lands that are not owned by the federal government, wild lands that only the strongest can reach.

La serie no explica el porqué, pero Elsa acompañada de su padre James Dutton protagonizado por Tim McGraw, su madre Margaret Dutton interpretada por Faith Hill y hermano menor John Dutton por Audie Rick, viajen desde Tennessee hasta Texas para luego ir en búsqueda de mejores tierras hacia el norte del pais, aparentemente el motivo de su viaje es colonizar tierras que no sean propiedad del gobierno federal, tierras salvajes que solo los mas fuertes pueden alcanzar.

James Dutton is the first to arrive in the state of Texas, he traveled by wagon with the family belongings, the rest of the family came by train. I can't think of a better actor to portray James Dutton than Tim MacGraw, his gentle but at the same time tough attitude on stage brings a lot of naturalness to the series, which from the beginning makes it clear that he is the tough, experienced, former Civil War soldier, perfect for this seemingly impossible journey.

James Dutton es el primero en llegar al estado de Texas, el viajaba en carreta con los enseres familiares, el resto de la familia venía en tren. No se me ocurre mejor actor para representar a James Dutton que Tim MacGraw, su actitud apacible pero a la vez recia en escena aportan mucha naturalidad a la serie, que desde un principio nos dejan en claro que es el tipo vaquero recio, experimentado, ex soldado de la guerra civil, perfecto para esta travesía aparentemente imposible.

Dutton Family

The Dutton family joins a group of German immigrants who intend to reach the lands of Oregon, but knowing nothing about the wild west they hire the services of Shea Brennan played by San Elliot, another perfect actor for this type of role, he definitely comes naturally. Shea knows that most of them will die if he does not have the help of more experienced people on their journey, so he reaches an agreement with the Duttons to travel together, thus giving a relationship of leadership conflicts over who has the best criteria to take them safely to their destination.

La familia Dutton se une a un grupo de inmigrantes alemanes que pretenden llegar a las tierras de Oregon, pero al no saber nada sobre el salvaje oeste contratan los servicios de Shea Brennan interpretado por San Elliot, otro actor perfecto para este tipo de papel, definitivamente le es natural. Shea sabe que la mayoría de ellos morirán si no cuenta con la ayuda de más personas experimentadas en su viaje, es así como llega a un acuerdo con los Dutton para que viajen juntos, dandose así una relación de conflictos de liderazgos por quien tiene el mejor criterio para llevarlos a salvó a su destino.

The series is full of teachings that can be applied today, it addresses problems that are of a general nature in all ages, for example, I am struck by the issue of maturing in an accelerated manner, there are those who reach the supposed age in which they should give signs of maturity but keep being children inside, is it possible to mature quickly? I don't think so, but it is possible to make great advances from one moment to the next, and in Elsa's story this is something that is represented.

La serie está plagada de enseñanzas que bien se pueden aplicar hoy en día, aborda problemas que son de carácter general en todas las épocas, por ejemplo, me llama la atención el asunto de madurar de forma acelerada, hay quienes llegan a la supuesta edad en la que ya se debe dar señales de madurez pero siguen siendo unos niños en su interior ¿Es posible madurar rápidamente? Creo que no del todo pero si se pueden hacer grandes avances de un momento a otros, y en la historia de Elsa es algo que se ve representado.

The issue is the challenges of daily life when facing the pursuit of dreams and goals, such processes often trigger the biggest problems. The Dutton family in their journey faces very difficult challenges, the young Elsa must face them and receives a great teaching from her father that I think is worth sharing here, he tells her: "the only good thing about problems, is that they will keep being problems later, you don't have to deal with them right away ", teaching her that sometimes analyzing the situation a little bit provides a better chance to find a solution.

El asunto se los desafíos del diario vivir al enfrentar la búsqueda de los sueños y objetivos, tales procesos desencadenan muchas veces los más grandes problemas. La familia Dutton en su viaje enfrenta desafíos muy difíciles, la joven Elsa debe enfrentarlos y recibe una gran enseñanza de su padre que me parece digna de compartir acá, el le comenta: "lo único bueno de los problemas, es que seguirán siendo problemas mas tarde, no tienes que lidiar con ellos de inmediato", enseñándole que a veces analizar un poco la situación brinda mayor probabilidad para encontrar una solución.

The series has a lot to appreciate, the landscapes of the wild lands of the far west are imposing, the references to the history and millenary cultures of the North American aborigines are very good and even the English of the time that God knows I struggled to understand, my respects to the screenwriters, they did their job well by including native phrases and idioms that for someone whose mother tongue is not English and is just learning it, it is surely difficult to understand, not to mention the cast that did it with incredible naturalness.

La serie tiene mucho para apreciar, los paisajes de las tierras salvajes del lejano oeste son imponentes, las referencias a la historia y culturas milenarias de los aborígenes norteamericanos son muy buenas e incluso el inglés de la época que bien sabe Dios me esforcé por entender, mis respetos para los guionistas, vaya que hicieron bien su trabajo al incluir frases y modismos autóctonos que para alguien cuya lengua materna no sea en inglés y recién lo aprende, de seguro le es difícil de comprender, y ni hablar del elenco que lo hizo con increíble naturalidad.

I have always admired the history of the American pioneers, knowing what they faced to populate a country whose territory is so different is fascinating to me, especially because half of that country has good vegetation and the other half is quite arid, this is due to the blocking effect that the Rocky Mountains, the third largest mountain range in the world, doesn't allow air currents to reach much of the North American territory, thus causing a huge desert area.

Siempre he admirado la historia de los pioneros norteamericanos, saber lo que ellos enfrentaron para poblar un país, cuyo territorio es tan diferente me resulta fascinante, en especial porque la mitad de ese país cuenta que buena vegetación y la otra mitad es bastante árida, esto se debe al efecto de bloqueo que las Montañas rocosas, la tercera cordillera mas grande del mundo, no permite que las corrientes de aire alcancen buena parte del territorio norteamericano, provocando así una zona desértica enorme.

1883 gives a small peek into the experiences of the pioneers and their efforts to conquer these difficult lands, through the story of the Dutton family, what they had to go through to reach what today are the western states, an admirable feat, although the series approaches it as a dramatic story in a poetic romantic tone, from the perspective of a young woman who learned to turn her hardships into enjoyment and growth. 1883 is not a series for all audiences, perhaps Latin American audiences will not find it interesting, but if you are a fan of westerns, it is definitely a story not to be missed.

1883 da un pequeño vistazo a esas experiencias de los pioneros y sus esfuerzos por conquistar estas difíciles tierras, a través de la historia de la familia Dutton, lo que debieron atravesar para llegar a lo que hoy son los estados del Oeste, una hazaña admirable, aunque la serie serie lo aborda como un relato dramático más en un tono romántico poético, desde la perspectiva de una joven que aprendió a convertir sus penurias en un disfrute y crecimiento. 1883 no es una serie para todos los gusto, quizás el público latinoamericano no le encuentre atractivo, pero si eres fanático del western, definitivamente es una historias que no te puedes perder.
