The western movies are among my favorites, also with time I began to have affection for the series of this genre, frankly I do not know why they attract me so much, I think it is due to that struggle that many fought in wild lands in order to survive and make a place for themselves, how hard many men and women had to be to raise their families and life projects, I also like how they relate to the history of the Native Americans, there are really many details and I like that 1923 has them all.

Las películas de western estan entre mis favoritas, también con el tiempo empecé a tenerle cariño a las series de este género, francamente no se porque me atraen tanto, pienso que se debe a esa lucha que muchos libraron en tierras salvajes a fin de sobrevivir y hacerse un lugar, lo duro que muchos hombre y mujeres debieron llegar a ser para levantar sus familiar y proyectos de vida, también me gusta mucho cómo se relacionan con la historia de los nativos americanos, en verdad son muchos detalles y me gusto que 1923 los tenga todos.

When I had the opportunity to try Paramount+ one of the things that caught my attention and I immediately scheduled to watch as soon as possible, was the series Yellowstone, as far as I understand it has received many nominations since its premiere in 2018, it has several seasons being the most recent the fifth released late last year. I was able to see the premise and I loved the theme of the Dutton family, who are the owners of the largest ranch in the United States, which has the name of Yellowstone and maintains a struggle with neighboring Indian reservations and the federal government.

Cuando tuve la oportunidad de probar Paramount+ una de las cosas que me llamó la atención y de inmediato programe ver lo antes posible, fue la serie Yellowstone, hasta donde tengo entendido ha recibido muchas nominaciones desde su estreno en el 2018, cuenta con varias temporadas siendo la mas recien la quinta estrenada a finales del año pasado. Puede ver la premisa y me encanto el tema de la familia Dutton, quienes son los propietarios del rancho mas grande de los estados unidos, que tiene el nombre de Yellowstone y que mantiene una lucha con reservas indias vecinas y el gobierno federal.

The 1923 series is a prequel to Yellowstone

When I was about to start watching it I noticed that the platform offered me other related series, among them 1923 and I noticed that it said that it was about the origins of Yellowstone, so it seemed prudent to watch this one first, although in reality this series is the most recent of the saga because it premiered at the beginning of this year, but the craziest thing is that there is another series of this saga that is also a prequel called 1883, which I learned of its existence after finishing 1923, so I will bring its review in the later.

Cuando estaba a punto de comenzar a verla note que la plataforma me ofrecía otras series relacionadas, entre ellas 1923 y note que decia que trataba de los orígenes de Yellowstone, asi que me pareció prudente ver esta primero, aunque en realidad esta serie es la mas reciente de la saga porque se estrenó a principio de este año, pero lo mas loco es que hay otra serie de esta saga que también es precuela que se llama 1883, que me enteré de su existencia luego de terminar 1923, así que traeré su reseña en el mas adelante.

What the 1923 series is about

The series tells the story of Jacob and Cara Dutton played by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, both ranchers who own what appears to be the largest ranch in the state of Montana and the country. They are engaged in cattle ranching and Jacob chairs a ranchers' commission that monitors and protects the rights of the ranchers. As the year is 1923, World War I has just ended and many soldiers are returning home, which presents a great challenge as most are unemployed with severe trauma from the war.

De qué trata la serie de 1923

La serie nos cuenta la historia de Jacob y Cara Dutton interpretados Harrison Ford y Helen Mirren, ambos rancheros propietarios de lo que parece ser el rancho mas grande del estado de Montana y del país. Se dedican a la ganadería vacuna y Jacob preside una comisión de ganaderos que controla y protege los derechos de los rancheros. Por ser el año 1923 la primera guerra mundial recién finaliza y muchos soldados vuelven a casa, lo que presenta un gran desafío ya que la mayoría están desempleados con severos traumas de la guerra.

This represents a problem for the Duttons, many Irish have come to the state of Montana to engage in cattle ranching, which is detrimental to the cows, as sheep tend to finish the grass much faster. This causes a struggle and rivalry between the two sides that causes great challenges for the Dutton family and puts their legacy at risk.

While the family faces these problems, in parallel one of its members, Spencer Dutton played by Brandon Sklenar is in Africa fighting his demons of war. He is a very famous hunter who is in demand in many cities to confront animals that kill humans. In the midst of his travels he meets the beautiful Alexandra played by Julia Schlaepfer, both are responsible for providing the love story of the series, as well as an adventure after the efforts to return to the United States when Spencer is urgently requested to take care of family affairs.

Mientras la familia enfrenta estos problemas, paralelamente uno de sus integrantes, Spencer Dutton interpretado por Brandon Sklenar se encuentra en África luchando con sus demonios de la guerra. Es un cazador muy famoso que es solicitado en muchas ciudades para enfrentar animales que matan humanos. En medio de sus viajes conoce a la bella Alexandra interpretada por Julia Schlaepfer, ambos son los encargados de brindar la historia amorosa de la serie, además de una aventura tras los esfuerzos por regresar a los Estados Unidos cuando es solicitada con urgencia la presencia de Spencer para hacerse cargo de los asuntos de la familia.

Family conflicts and love story are the best combination

I must say that I liked the series as far as the love story is concerned, I usually get saturated with love stories in movies and series, I find them too sweet and exaggerated, but in the story between Spencer and Alexandra I found the perfect dose of passion and delivery, if a little repetitive at times, but that leaves you wanting to know how the relationship will continue when it is subjected to the tests of family conflicts, after going through super difficult times while they were in Africa.

Debo decir que la serie en lo que respecta a la historia de amor me gusto, normalmente me saturan las historia de amor en películas y series, me parecen demasiado empalagosas y exageradas, pero en la historia entre Spencer y Alexandra me pareció que se da la dosis perfecta de pasión y entrega, si un tanto repetitiva en algunos momentos, pero que te deja con deseo de saber cómo ha de continuar la relación cuando esta se someta a las pruebas de los conflictos familiares, luego de pasar por momentos super dificiles mientras se encontraban en Africa.

The conflict of the Dutton family in Montana seems complicated, for moments you don't think they can overcome what they face, of course if you have seen the Yellowstone series you will know that at some point they were successful, the case is how they got it, because what the series raises seems difficult to overcome. The dynamics of the place still maintains vestiges of what was the far west that gradually disappears with the arrival of the comforts of larger cities, but many men still take justice into their own hands, which is one of the biggest factors of the conflict they face.

El conflicto de la familia Dutton en Montana parece complicado, por instantes no crees que puedan superar lo que enfrentan, claro que si haz visto la serie Yellowstone sabras que en algún momento tuvieron éxito, el caso es cómo lo consiguieron, porque lo que plantea la serie parece difícil de superar. La dinámica del lugar aun mantiene vestigios de lo que fue el lejano oeste que poco a poco desaparece con la llegada de las comodidades de las ciudades mas grandes, pero muchos hombres aun toman la justicia en sus manos, lo cual es uno de los factores mas grandes del conflicto que deben enfrentar.

Another great detail of the series that I can not fail to mention, is how it shows the horrors that the Native Americans went through in those times, as many of them were already grouped in reservations, and "efforts" were made to Christianize them. This is where the series tells the story of Teonnah Rainwater played by Aminah Nieves, a young native girl who is confined in a "Christian" school where she suffers the worst mistreatment, which she refuses to keep suffering, facing the nuns and priests of the place, with raw scenes and full of emotional charge, Aminah acts incredible, hopefully she will receive an award in the future.

Otro gran detalle de la serie que no puedo dejar de mencionar, es cómo muestra los horrores que pasaron los nativos americanos en aquellos tiempos, ya muchos de ellos se encontraban agrupados en reservas, y se hacían "esfuerzos" por cristianizarlos. Aquí es donde la serie cuenta un poco la historia de Teonnah Rainwater interpretada por Aminah Nieves, una joven nativa que se encuentra recluida en una escuela "cristiana" donde sufre los peores maltratos, los cuales ella se niega a seguir padeciendo, haciendo frente a las monjas y curas del lugar, con escenas crudas y llenas de mucha carga emocional, Aminah actúa increible, ojala reciba algún premio en el futuro.

In general terms I can say that the series is very good, personally I enjoyed it a lot, I have no complaints, the photography is incredible when the scenery of Montana and Africa are shown, as for the story at times I was lost, I did not understand much why things happened, maybe it is important to see Yellowstone first, I will not know until I see it, but I plan to see 1883 first to have all the context and perhaps dispel a little of the entanglement of the story, despite this I recommend it to any fan of western stories.

En líneas generales puedo decir que la serie es muy buena, personalmente la disfrute mucho, no tengo queja alguna, la fotografía es increíble cuando se muestran los escenarios de Montana y Africa, en cuanto a la historia por momento me perdía, no entendía mucho porque de las cosas, quizás es importante ver Yellowstone, no lo sabré hasta que la vea, pero planeo ver primero 1883 para tener todo el contexto y quizás disipar un poco el enredo de la historia, pese a esto la recomiendo a todo fan de las historias western.
