Don’t Sell It To Me Like Interstellar | My Project Hail Mary Review
Project Hail Mary is the movie of the moment for all sci-fi lovers. Right off the bat, let me tell you that this is definitely not the new Interstellar, as many claim—which, frankly, is what drove me to watch it with so much excitement, because I absolutely adore that movie.
To have the best experience possible, I didn't want to watch too many reviews or videos; knowing it was sci-fi and combined science with outer space—one of my favorite movie genres—was enough for me. However, I was a bit worried about going to see it with my family. I thought my wife and young daughter would get bored watching an almost 3-hour space story, but it was quite the opposite.

I found a story with a very interesting scientific element, but it’s not the center of the plot. It’s almost a road trip—in space, obviously—where a man finds friendship while trying to save his planet. It’s all about the relationship between Dr. Ryland Grace (Gosling) and an alien nicknamed Rocky, whom he ironically crosses paths with in space. After overcoming the language barrier, they discover they share the same mission and decide to face it together, resulting in a dynamic that brings a lot of comedy to the story.

This relationship has charmed a lot of people. I saw my 10-year-old daughter excitedly clapping and laughing at this odd couple. Not to mention my wife, who was fascinated and delighted by the "cuteness" a rock could bring. On the other hand, I understood perfectly what was going on—this isn't my first rodeo. Gosling is a genius who knows how to make a charming story shine, and he has a lot of charisma.

But where the movie lost me a bit was in the execution of his solitude. Gosling is an actor with incredible chemistry when he is accompanied by others, as evidenced by his interactions with Agent Carl. However, in the scenes where we are left alone with him in the vastness of space, and then we see him talking to what is basically a rock, I felt his style didn't quite fit.

Look, I don't want to be unpopular, and I don't doubt that the friendship with the alien is sweet and works for many—my family loved it. But for me, it lacked the spectacular atmosphere that Interstellar had and that they want you to believe this one possesses. Don't sell it to me the same way; it’s a good buddy story, but not a masterpiece of space survival.

It was one of the movies that got me excited to go watch in the Cinema even though I went in not expecting too much, I kind of left with the feeling that it was ok but nothing more. Both Interstellar and The Martian were on another level compared to this one. Still glad that I went to go see it though.
It's not a bad movie, but it wasn't what I expected. The directors promoted it as the new Interstellar, but it's nothing like it.
