I believed and got burned again 😔 My review of The Fantastic Four (2025)

I seriously never learn my lesson! 🤦‍♀️ I don't know why I keep setting myself up with high expectations before seeing a Marvel movie. This has happened so many times, but it seems like I only remember it when I sit down to write my opinion after watching one of their shows or films. It happened to me again with The Fantastic Four! 😵‍💫 Right off the bat, I wasn't thrilled with the whole "retro-futuristic" look 🕰️, but there was the promise of a Marvel universe reboot, and that is what got my hopes up. 🚀

Parece que no aprendo la lección 🤦‍♀️, no sé porque me lleno de buenas expectativas antes de ver una película de Marvel, esto ya lo he dicho tantas veces, que parece que solo lo recuerdo cuando voy a escribir mi opinión, luego de ver alguna de sus series o películas. Me ha pasado otra vez con los 4 Fantásticos 😵‍💫, ya de entrada no me agradaba esa apariencia retro futurista🕰️, pero había la promesa de reiniciar el universo Marvel, eso fue lo que me lleno de expectativas🚀.

I actually refused to go to the theater, specifically to avoid wasting my money 💸 on an outing that would just leave me disappointed. That’s why I waited until now for it to be available on streaming platforms. 📺 My all-time favorite Marvel heroes are the X-Men 🙅‍♂️ I have a special love for their stories because I watched them with my mom when I was a kid, and she absolutely loved them. 🥰 This "new" era of the Marvel universe, which promises to integrate them, had me excited. So, I figured it was a good idea to watch all the stories leading up to the Avengers: Doomsday movie. 🤞

De hecho, me negué ir al cine previniendo el no perder mi dinero 💸 en una salida que me terminara decepcionando, por eso esperé hasta ahora que estuviera al alcance en plataformas 📺. Mis superhéroes favoritos de Marvel son los X-Men 🙅‍♂️, tengo especial aprecio por sus historias, ya que de niño las veía junta a mi mamá y a ella le encantaban 🥰, pero eso está "nueva" etapa del universo Marvel que promete integrales me emocionó, por tanto pensé que es buena idea ver todas las historias hasta llegar a la película de Avengers Doomsday🤞.

Art direction and story gripes 📉

Regarding this movie, I was not a fan of the art direction. 🎨 I get that the retro-futuristic look was probably a device to separate the universe where this film takes place from the universes that will appear in future Multiverse installments, and also because the first Fantastic Four cartoons looked that way in the '60s. 👴 Maybe my problem is that I associate technological advancements with a highly futuristic visual presence, and this film just doesn't use that. Their scientists are capable of traveling through wormholes to other galaxies 🌌, but they're still using magnetic tape 📼 as storage devices. It just doesn't track. 🤷‍♂️

En cuanto a esta película, no me agradaba la dirección de arte 🎨, ese aspecto retro futurista entiendo que fue un recurso para separar el universo donde se desarrolla la película, de los universos que aparecerán en futuras entregas del multiverso Marvel, también porque las primeras caricaturas de los 4 Fantasticos asi se veian en los años 60 👴. Quizas mi problema es que asocio los avances tecnológicos con una presencia visual muy futurista y esta película no usa ese recurso, sus científicos son capaces de hacer viajes a través de agujeros de gusano a otras galaxias 🌌, pero siguen usando como dispositivos de almacenamiento las 📼 cintas magnéticas 🤷‍♂️.

As for the story, it all revolves around saving Earth from Galactus, who is coming to devour it. 🌍 That’s not new; we know it from the comics. 📚 However, while the story kept the basic framework, major elements of its execution were completely changed. 🤯 Things like Silver Surfer, Galactus's herald, being a woman now; or Galactus being only slightly bigger than the Statue of Liberty 🗽 when he’s supposed to be bigger than Earth 🪐; and the fact that he devours worlds with the help of a machine. ⚙️ All of this can definitely turn off people who are familiar with the source material. 🙅‍♀️

En cuanto a la historia, todo gira en torno a salvar a la tierra 🌍 de Galactus que viene a devorarla, algo que no es nuevo porque se conoce gracias a los cómics 📚, sin embargo, esta historia aunque mantiene las bases de su trama, aspectos de su desarrollo cambiaron mucho 🤯, como que Silver Surfer el heraldo de Galactus sea ahora mujer, que Galactus sea solo un poco más grande que la estatua de la libertad 🗽 cuando es más grande que la tierra 🪐 y que devora mundos con la ayuda de una máquina. Todo esto puede generar un poco de rechazo en quienes de alguna manera conocemos la historia de base 🙅‍♀️.

Casting and performance 🎭

The cast was good but not great. They talked a lot about their great chemistry🧪, but I didn't see any standout performances except for Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm. ✨ In my opinion, she was the most notable, as her emotions really came through in the scene transitions. That's the complete opposite of the overrated Pedro Pascal 😴, who acts the same in every single movie. Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing and Joseph Quinn as Human Torch felt like secondary, barely relevant characters. 🤏 Although, they finally took into account The Thing's piloting skills, which are always highlighted in the comics. ✈️

El elenco estuvo bueno pero no excelente, se hablaba mucho de la gran química 🧪 entre ellos, pero no hubo una actuación deslumbrante, salvo la de Vanessa Kirby como Sue Storm ✨, que en mi opinión es la más destacable, ya que en ella si se notaban las emociones en los cambios de escenas, todo lo contrario con el sobrevalorado de Pedro Pascal 😴 que actual igual en todas las películas. Ebon Moss-Bachrach como The Thing y Joseph Quinn como Human Torch parecían personajes secundarios y poco relevantes 🤏, aunque finalmente esta vez sí se tomaron en cuenta las habilidades de piloto que siempre se destacan The Thing ✈️.

Final verdict 👎

Overall, this is simply not a movie that gets you excited or stands out for its great effects. 😴 It also doesn't have a very funny or comedic touch 😂, the action scenes aren't all that impressive 💥, and the TV resource used for context is just boring. 🥱 For me, it's just another Marvel disappointment. 😩

En líneas generales no es una película que emociona y destaque por sus grandes efectos 😴, tampoco goza de un toque cómico y divertido 😂, las escenas de acción tampoco destacan demasiado 💥, y el recurso del televisor para dar contexto aburre 🥱, para mi otra decepción de Marvel 😩.
