I never thought I'd see Stallone as a Superhero | Samaritan [ENG/SPA]

I never thought I'd see Sylvester Stallone as a "Superhero" was the comment my oldest son made when we finished watching the movie. This legendary movie actor has played all kinds of roles: boxer, mercenary, bomb specialist, detective, trainer, mobster, he has done it all and maybe at 75 years old he was wondering what he had left to do, maybe at his age that's why he decided to play this role.

Jamás pensé ver a Sylvester Stallone como "Superhéroe" fue el comentario que hizo mi hijo mayor cuando terminamos de ver la película. Este legendario actor de cine a desempeñado todo tipo de papeles: boxeador, mercenario, especialista en bombas, detective, entrenador, mafioso, ha hecho de todo y quizás a sus 75 años se preguntaba que le faltaba por hacer, quizás a su edad por eso decidió desempeñar este papel.

Balboa Production together with Metro Goldwyn Mayer were the producers of this film, and as usual Stallone usually participates in films where his production company is involved. This style of dark hero is a new proposal that has been gaining ground in today's cinema, Dead pool and Black Adams come to my mind and the successful series The Boys, these formats have been well accepted by the public and that's why I think they bet on this genre.

Este estilo de dark hero es una nueva propuesta que ha ido ganando terreno en el cine actual, vienen a mi mente Dead pool y Black Adams y la exitosa serie The Boys, estos formatos han tenido buena aceptación entre el público y por eso creo que apostaron a este género.

The movie was a success in 2022 its year of release, quickly positioning itself as 1 in the list of most watched worldwide on Prime Video, it seemed at that time a different proposal to what Marvel and DC had us used to and I can say that it still works. It is based on the Astro City comic books created by Kurt Busiek and artists Brent Anderson and Alex Ross, in this city there are plenty of heroes with different abilities and personal conflicts.

La película fue un éxito en 2022 su año de estreno, posicionándose rápidamente como 1 en la lista de más vistos a nivel mundial en Prime Video, parecía en aquel entonces una propuesta diferentes a lo que Marvel y DC nos tenía acostumbrados y puedo decir que aún funciona. Está basada en los comic de Astro City creados por Kurt Busiek y los artistas Brent Anderson y Alex Ross, en dicha ciudad abundan los heroes con distintas habilidades y conflictos personales.

Now it is important to clarify that a dark hero is not someone bad, I like to describe it as anyone who has problems, challenges, insecurities, is not the perfect person with all the virtues of being human as Captain America and Superman are, they are people who deal with their inner demons but are endowed with powers, and are torn between the ideas of helping others or worrying only about themselves.

Ahora es importante aclarar que un dark héroe no es alguien malo, me gusta describirlo como cualquiera que tiene problemas, desafíos, inseguridades, no es la persona perfecta con todas las virtudes del ser humano como lo son capitán América y Superman, son personas que lidian con sus demonios internos pero que están dotados con poderes, y se debaten entre las ideas de ayudar a otros o preocuparse solo de ellos mismo.

This type of hero I must say that I like more, although it has its touch of extraordinary, they humanize them looking to make it more attractive to the audience. This is the case of Samaritan, he is a guy with a miserable life who wants personal peace and hates the system, who disappears from the radar and starts to worry about himself. Stallone gives a nice touch to this character with the tough guy look he's used to, he doesn't want to be bothered and doesn't care about anything.

Este tipo de héroe debo decir que me gusta más, aunque tiene su toque de extraordinario, los humanizan buscando hacerlo más atractivo a la audiencia. Este es el caso de Samaritan, es un tipo con una vida miserable que desea la paz personal y odia al sistema, que desaparece del radar y empieza a preocuparse por si mismo. Stallone le da un buen toque a este personaje con el aspecto de tipo rudo al que nos tiene acostumbrado, no quiere que le molesten y nada le importa.

It is here where Sam (Javon "Wanna" Walton) comes into play, a boy who lost his father, lives almost in misery and sustaining himself and his mother is almost impossible, but does not give up his fantasy of meeting his hero Samaritan, hoping to motivate them to resume their fight for justice and return order to the city. The fact is that everyone thinks Samaritan is dead, after a fight against his twin brother Nemesis, where it is believed that both died in an abandoned industry that exploded after their fight.

Es aquí donde entra en juego Sam (Javon “Wanna” Walton) un niño que perdió a su padre, vive casi en la miseria y sostenerse él y su madre es casi imposible, pero no renuncia a su fantasía de conocer a su héroe Samaritan, con la esperanza de motivarlos a retomar su lucha por la justicia y devolver el orden a la ciudad. El caso es que todos piensan que Samaritan está muerto, luego de un combate contra su hermano gemelo Nemesis, dónde se cree que ambos murieron en una industria abandonada que estalló tras su pelea.

Sam, thanks to his tireless search for his hero, crosses paths with Joe (Stallone) who saves him from a beating with a demonstration of incredible strength. This display of power is quickly associated by Sam with Samaritan and from that moment on he doesn't leave Joe's side until he finds out if he is the hero he has been looking for.

Sam gracias a la incansable búsqueda de su héroe se cruza con Joe (Stallone) quien le salva de una golpiza con una demostración de una fuerza increíble. Este derroche de poder es asociado rápidamente por Sam con Samaritan y desde ese momento no se aleja de Joe hasta descubrir si es el héroe que tanto a buscado.

The film doesn't offer anything that hasn't been seen before, nothing innovative, but it works very well as that Sunday movie that you get together to watch with your family over popcorn and soda and entertain you for a while. It's also an opportunity to see a movie icon like Stallone at his advanced age, performing very well, something we wouldn't have doubted he would do in his youth, but now it's quite a feat.

La película no ofrece algo que no se haya visto, nada innovadora, pero funciona muy bien como esa película de domingo que te reúnes a ver en familia con cotufas y refresco y te entretiene un rato. También es una oportunidad de ver a un ícono del cine como Stallone a su edad tan avanzada, desempeñándose muy bien, algo que no hubiésemos dudado que haría en su juventud, pero que ahora es toda una hazaña.
