Is Mercy Really That Bad? My Honest Take

I just finished watching Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson’s latest movie, Mercy, and I actually liked it. I know the professional critics are tearing it apart, but after watching so many "deep" artistic films lately, having a sci-fi experience like this was great. Is it the best movie these actors have ever made? Let me tell you what I think.

Ya ví la última película de Chris Pratt y Rebeca Ferguson titulada Mercy y me a gustado. Se que la crítica profesional la está destruyendo, pero tras ver cine artístico, tener una experiencia con una película de ciencia ficción fue genial ¿Es la mejor película de estos actores? Déjame y te cuento.

Mercy has a futuristic vibe, showing a use for AI technology that doesn't exist yet. Even though it’s not explicitly stated, it shows images of quantum computers hosting artificial intelligence. If you know even a little bit about the subject, that’s wild—it’s basically giving computer software unstoppable processing power.

Mercy tiene un toque futurista, plantea una aplicación de la tecnología de la IA que aún no se ve en el mundo. Aunque no lo menciona directamente, muestra imágenes de computadores cuánticos que albergan inteligencia artificial, algo que es una locura si conoces un poco del tema, es darle un poder de cómputo casi que imparable a un software de computadora.

Because of this power, AI is used to maintain order in a chaotic world. Rebecca Ferguson plays the "face" of an AI that judges people accused of crimes in just an hour and a half. The accused have all that tech at their disposal to prove their innocence while strapped to a chair, but if they fail, they are executed right then and there.

This is where the movie really starts; we see him visibly shaken by his ex-wife's death as he begins using the AI’s resources to clear his name, triggering a series of action scenes and plot twists.

To answer my original question: no, this definitely isn't the best movie from either actor, but they do a solid job. Personally, I love these types of futuristic thrillers and I think this one has potential. I know critics have called it exhausting and predictable, but with AI being such a huge topic right now, it would be silly not to tell stories about it and capitalize on the trend.

Respondiendo la pregunta inicial, definitivamente no es la mejor película de estos actores, pero no lo hacen nada mal, además este tipo de thrillers con premisa futurista me encanta y para mí tiene potencial. Se que la crítica lo ha tildado de agotador y predecible, pero en medio del auge de la IA, sería tonto no desarrollar historias relacionadas y explotar lo trending del tema.

It’s true that toward the end, the plot takes a turn that tries to be a "gotcha" moment, which might be an unpleasant surprise for some, but it didn't really bother me. I also felt like Rebecca Ferguson’s talent was a bit underused, but honestly, it’s a movie you can just enjoy with some popcorn and a soda.

Es cierto que al final la película tiene un desvío en la trama que pretende ser un giro de tuerca, que te puede tomar por sorpresa no muy agradable, pero la verdad a mí no me molestó. También me pareció que se desaprovecho el talento de Rebeca Ferguson, pero vamos es una película que se puede disfrutar con unas buenas cotufas y un vaso de refresco.
