Locked - Minimalism with deconstruction, tension, and acting mastery [ENG/SPA]
Hey everyone, just got out of this movie and thought it would be an interesting one to share my thoughts on, seeing as I'm not super familiar with micro-genre thrillers and figured this would be a good chance to check one out. This film actually brought to mind two pretty similar ones that I now realize fit into this genre – you might remember Buried with Ryan Reynolds and Locke with Tom Hardy. Both are a bit older but have that exact same kind of feel

Saludos comunidad, acabo de ver esta película y me pareció una oportunidad interesante para compartir mi opinión al respecto, ya que no conozco mucho de thriller de micro género y pensé que esta sería una buena oportunidad para ver una. Esta película trajo a mi memoria dos muy similares, que ahora se que pertenecen a este género, quizás recuerden Buried con Ryan Reynolds y Locke con Tom Hardy, ambas son algo viejas pero tiene exactamente el mismo estilo.
Locked is a movie with a small cast, where it's pretty much just two people interacting for most of the runtime: Bill Skarsgard and Sir Anthony Hopkins, who was honestly the main draw for me since he's such a legend in the horror and suspense world. At first, it seems really minimalist, but these two actors gradually pull you into some complex themes like wealth inequality and what it means to be trapped in a system, all within the confines of a vehicle and a phone conversation
Loked es una película con un elenco pequeño, donde solo dos personas interactúan la mayor parte del tiempo, Bill Skarsgard y Sir Anthony Hopkins, por quien me senti atraido a ver esta película, por ser un gran referente del género de terror y suspenso. En un principio todo parece minimalista, pero estos dos actores poco a poco nos introducen en temas mas complejos como la desigualdad de la riqueza y lo que significa estar atrapado en un sistema, todo dentro de un vehiculó y una comunicación telefónica
I gotta say, Anthony Hopkins' character development really grabbed me. The way he goes from a few phone interactions to becoming this active and vital part of the story was impressive. I think the director really knew how to tap into Hopkins' strengths to create moments of genuine terror and deep reflection. Bill Skarsgard also puts in a solid effort, holding his own with a character who goes through this deconstruction and breakdown. You end up sympathizing with him by the end, even though you might judge him pretty harshly at the beginning. That's where the movie really emphasizes the difference in social classes and how each perceives the other – how the wealthy see the poor as criminals, and how the lower classes blame the rich for all their problems.
Debo resaltar que me llamó mucho la atención el desarrollo del personaje de Anthony Hopkins, como pasa de unas pocas interacciones telefónicas a ser una parte activa y vital de la historia. Creo que el director utilizó muy bien los recursos de este actor para desarrollar momentos de terror y de profunda refección. Bill Skarsgard hace un gran esfuerzo por no quedarse atrás con un personaje que se deconstruye y quiebra, con el que llegas a simpatizar al final, pero en un principio juzgas profundamente. Es aquí donde la historia enfatiza la diferencia de clases sociales y como cada una tiene una percepción de la otra, como los ricos ven a los pobres como malhechores y como las clases bajas culpan a los ricos de todos sus males.
Like I was saying, the movie reminded me of Buried because Skarsgard's character is literally trapped inside the car, terrified and confused, not able to do much until he figures out he needs to cooperate to understand why he's been locked in there. You can't help but start questioning how you might avoid ending up in a trap like that, and then you move on to thinking about what you'd do in that kind of situation and how you'd get out of such a tight spot. You start to feel for Skarsgard's character as you see him making decisions in survival mode, thinking clearly, motivated by wanting to see his daughter again, something that didn't seem that important to him before
Decía que la película me recordó a Buried porque literalmente el personaje de Skarsgard está atrapado dentro del carro, aterrorizado y confundido sin poder hacer mucho, hasta que logra entender que debe colaborar para saber porque ha sido atrapado dentro de este carro. No puedes evitar comenzar hacer cuestionamientos sobre no haber caído en una trampa así, para luego pasar a pensar que harías en una situación de este tipo y como saldrías de tremendo aprieto. Empieza a simpatizar con el personaje de Skarsgard cuando le ves tomar decisiones en modo supervivencia, pensando en frío, motivado por volver a ver a su hija, lo que antes no parecía importante para el.
Then there's a shift, and some action scenes start kicking in, which amps up the drama and pulls you right back into the movie, leading to what I thought was a solid ending. I think it's a good blend of simplicity and action. It was an entertaining flick, and I liked it because I was looking for something different from all the big-budget productions I've been reviewing – it was time for something more stripped down. It's not making my top 10 movies of the year list, but it's definitely a good way to kill some time and check out a different kind of genre
Luego hay un cambio y comienza a ver algunas escenas de acción que intensifican el drama y te vuelve a meterte en la pelicula para llegar a lo que me pareció un buen final. Creo que es una buena mezcla de simpleza y acción, es una película entretenida, me gustó porque quería ver algo diferente a lo que vengo reseñando, puras súper producciones y ya era hora de ver algo más sencillo. No está en mi top 10 de película del año, pero si es buena para pasar el rato y ver un género distinto.
