Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part Two - Does it live up to the legacy? [ENG/SPA]

I finally got around to seeing the new "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two," and I was so excited for it. It's supposed to be the final movie in the franchise, and with almost 30 years having passed since the first one, how could you not want to see it? So, I've got a few thoughts that all came from the question I asked myself before watching: Does it live up to its legacy?

Al fin pude ver esta nueva película de la franquicia Misión Imposible que a sido titulada "Sentencia Final". Tenía muchísimas ganas de verla porque según es la última entrega de esta saga, y como no querer verla si son casi 30 años los que han transcurrido durante todos los estrenos de cada una de sus peliculas, asi que vengo con varias de mis opiniones que surgieron de la pregunta que me hice antes de verla ¿Está a la altura de su legado?

Just to quickly get you up to speed in case you haven't seen it yet, this is the eighth film in the series and a direct sequel to "Dead Reckoning Part One," which came out in 2023. The plot revolves around an AI that calls itself "the Entity" because it's become self-aware and is threatening humanity by trying to take down nuclear systems, which would cause a war that wipes everyone out.

Para ponerlos en contexto rápido por si acaso aún no la han visto, esta es la octava película de la saga, es la segunda parte de "Dead Reckoning Part One" estrenada en 2023. La trama gira en torno a una IA que se llama a su misma la Entidad porque adquirió conciencia y está amenazando a la humanidad con colapsar los sistemas nucleares, desatando una guerrera que aniquile a todos.

Ethan Hunt and his team are tasked with retrieving the AI's source code from a Russian nuclear submarine that sank in the Arctic. They believe this code will stop the AI, and to get it, they need a key that Ethan already has. Along the way, they're opposed by Gabriel, who works with the Entity to carry out its plans. Together, they're all caught in a race against time to prevent the apocalypse.

Ethan Hunt y su equipo son los responsables de recuperar el código fuente de la IA dentro de un submarino nuclear ruso que se hundió en el ártico, con este pretenden frenar a la IA, para lograrlo necesitan una llave que ya Ethan tiene. En el proceso se les opone Gabriel, quien trabaja con la Entidad ejecutando muchos de sus planes. Junta a el de ven envueltos en una carrera contrarreloj para evitar el apocalipsis.

What I've told you is just the premise of the movie, and as you can see, it's the classic good vs. evil fight, but modernized with an AI—which isn't exactly a new idea. What's undeniable about this film, however, is that Tom Cruise is absolutely the soul of the franchise. His dedication is so great that even at his age, he's still risking his life to pull off incredible action scenes without using CGI. I think the movie really tries to end the saga with a celebration of handcrafted, big-screen filmmaking.

Esto que les cuento es solo la premisa de la película, y como verán es la típica lucha del bien contra el mal pero ahora modernizado porque incluye una IA, algo que tampoco es nada nuevo. Lo que es innegable de esta película es que Tom Cruise es definitivamente el alma de la franquicia su compromiso es tal que aún a su edad sigue arriesgando su vida para lograr increíbles escenas de acción que no involucren CGI, creo que la película busca cerrar esta saga con una celebración a el cine artesanal de pantalla grande.

Another major success of the film is its action sequences. They're clear, they feel clean, and you can actually follow what's happening—something that doesn't usually happen with CGI, which can be so fast that you're not sure what you just saw. The underwater scenes where they search for the submarine and the aerial acrobatics with the planes are a true work of art that pay homage to classic adventure films. It's clear this was made to be appreciated best in a movie theater, especially in IMAX. But for those of us who don't have that technology in our countries, I'd recommend watching it in the highest resolution you can find on the biggest screen you have.

Otro gran acierto de la película son sus secuencias de acción, son claras se sienten limpias y se entienden, algo que no suele pasar con el CGI, son tan aceleradas que normalmente no sabes que paso. Las secuencias bajo el agua cuando van en la búsqueda del submarino y la acrobacia aérea con las avionetas, son una auténtica obra de arte que dan homenaje al cine clásico de aventuras. Es claro que fue hecho de esta manera para apreciarse mejor en el cine, verlas en IMAX, pero para quienes no tenemos dicha tecnología en nuestros paises, recomiendo verla en la máxima resolución en la pantalla más grande que consigas.

But the movie isn't all good. The plot feels a bit overloaded at the start. It takes almost an hour just to set up the plan they'll execute in the other two hours of the film. This might be an overuse of exposition, with characters delivering long monologues to explain things you already know are going to happen, which takes away the element of surprise and hurts the pacing. On top of that slow pace, the villain feels flat and a bit boring, too—he lacks charisma.

Pero no todo es bueno en la película, la trama se siente un tanto sobrecargada al principio, toma casi una hora establecer todo el plan que van a ejecutar en las otras 2 horas que dura, estoy quizás es un abuso de la sobre explicación con personajes que dirán largos segmentos diciendo lo que ya una sabe que va a ocurrir, lo que le quita el factor sorpresa y ritmo. A esta lentitud hay que sumarle la del villano, se siente apagado y lento también, le falta carisma.

In conclusion, "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two" definitely isn't perfect. It might be missing a few moments of adrenaline, but it's still a cinematic spectacle that will go down in history. Tom Cruise's commitment and his efforts to keep practical action cinema alive are truly remarkable. Hopefully, this will encourage a new generation of actors to keep this type of spectacle going.

En conclusión, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two definitivamente no es perfecta, puede que le falten ciertos momentos de adrenalina, sin embargo, no deja de ser un espectáculo cinematográfico que pasará a la historia. Es super destacable la entrega de Tom Cruise y su esfuerzo por mantener vivo el cine de acción practico, ojala esto sea un aliciente para nuevos actores que deseen mantener vivo este tipo de espectáculo.
