My pros and cons of the Mobland series [ENG/SPA]
The Mobland series, which premiered on Paramount+ and SkyShowtime, has its share of both pros and cons in my opinion, and I want to share them with you. The plot focuses on the criminal underworld of the London mafia, where two families, the Harrigans and the Stevensons, fight for power, control of the city, and drug trafficking. In the middle of this family feud, we find Harry Da Souza, played by Tom Hardy, who acts as a "fixer" for the Harrigans. Tom Hardy is joined by other great acting figures like Pierce Brosnan as Conrad Harrigan and Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan.

The cast is the Show's strongest point
Without a doubt, the greatest strength of this series is its cast. Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren quickly become the reason you want to watch it. Mirren's performance impressed me the most; it was so good that you quickly come to hate her, especially after loving her in the series 1923. Hardy's character, Harry Da Souza, is more complex and feels a bit ambiguous, with everything revolving around him. I did get a bit tired of his constant need to clean up the family's messes, but the action in the series more than makes up for it. Brosnan's character, Conrad Harrigan, is also a departure from what you're used to seeing from him. These actors are definitely the show's biggest win.

The Narrative and its Flaws
The main themes of the series are loyalty, family, and personal sacrifice. The plot is compelling and keeps you wanting to see what happens in the next episode, which I liked because it's so immersive. You feel the tension building slowly, with some narrative twists that feel quite organic. It also has that elegant vibe you see in other mafia stories like Peaky Blinders. I think this mix is what earned it a good number of views. I personally started watching after seeing a trailer and was hooked immediately. I later found out that on its premiere, more than 2.2 million people watched it on Paramount+, which isn't necessarily the most popular platform.

However, not everything is good. The beginning is too slow; the first two episodes have very long dialogues and little action. To me, this is a mistake that comes from wanting to give too much context to the characters. Perhaps the creators wanted to be original, but this is where the series fails. Mafia stories can feel all the same, and while they might have tried to break the mold and redefine the gangster thriller genre, as the story progresses, you realize it's very similar to much of what you've seen before. Peaky Blinders and Gangs of London set the bar very high when it comes to London mafias, and those shows managed to offer genuinely new arguments.

Despite these flaws, I find Mobland to be an entertaining series. It has an undeniable strength in its cast and a good pace starting from the third episode. Although it tries to surprise you with the ending, it's something you see coming from about episode 7 (I'm putting it that way to avoid spoilers). I think it's pure entertainment, but because it's on Paramount, not many people might know it exists. I've noticed this with the time I've spent reviewing shows from this platform; a lot of people in the community just aren't familiar with them.

I've been coming across this title Mobland but I actually had no idea what genre it was of. Thanks to your review, I now know but sadly, I'm not the biggest fan of action dramas like this.
I understand what you mean by others might not find the series instantly captivating, due to how slow the beginning is. I too, love getting down into business, the moment I start a movie. A beautiful review this was 💕
I'm glad this review was helpful to you.
I really liked Mobland; it's a good series about the mafia and crime. Plus, the cast is top-notch; with such great actors, it's hard for anything to go wrong. And, well, Tom Hardy looks great in these roles. I'm glad they renewed it; I really enjoyed it.
London gangland series draw a lot of viewers; it would be a mistake not to renew for a second season. The cast is top-notch, but the script has its ups and downs.
