Predator: Killer of Killers - A brilliant animated anthology that revives the saga [ENG/SPA]

Hey community! I'm thrilled after watching this new animated Predator film. I've seen several animated movies recently, but it's been a while since one pleased and excited me this much. The last one I can say I liked as much was "Transformers One" last October. Many people avoid animated films, regardless of age, but we should always give this format a chance because some stories are just better told this way, and this movie hit the nail on the head.

Les cuento que he quedado muy complacido tras haber visto esta nueva película animada de Predator, he visto varias películas animadas recientemente, pero tenía tiempo que ninguna me gustaba tanto y me emocionaba como esta, la ultima que puedo decir que me gusto tanto asi, fue Transformers One en octubre del año pasado. Muchas personas se abstiene de ver este tipo de películas por ser animadas, sin importar nuestra edad, siempre hay que darle una oportunidad a este formato, porque hay cosas que se cuentan mejor de esta manera, y con esta película le dieron al clavo.

Let me try to explain why this film is so good and what I liked most about it. First off, its story is told in an anthological way, which for me is the first and very important success. This hadn't been done before with this franchise; in a single story, all Predators look exactly alike, but it doesn't make sense for every being of a species to be identical. "Predator: Killer of Killers" takes a journey through various eras, in different settings, against different warriors, which makes it seem very logical for each Predator to be unique.

Déjenme intentar explicar porqué esta película es tan buena y que es lo que mas me gusto de ella. Para empezar su historia es contada de forma antológica, para mi este es el primer y muy importante acierto, algo que no se había hecho antes con esta franquicia, al ser una sola historia todos los Depredadores se ven exactamente igual, no puede ser que una especie todos sus seres sean idénticos. Predator: Killer of Killers hace un viaje por varias épocas, en distintos escenarios, contra guerreros diferentes que parece muy lógico que cada Depredador sea diferente.

The first part takes place in the Viking era of 800 A.D., where we see a tall, burly Predator whose main weapon is a kind of magnetic pulse hammer; the combat is pure brute force. The second story is set in feudal Japan in 1600, where we see a leaner, more agile Predator facing a samurai and a shinobi, with sharp, quick-deploying weapons. The third story is in 1941, at the start of World War II, where we now see a Predator stalking airplane pilots from its ship.

La primera parte se desarrolla en la época vikinga de 800 D.C. donde vemos un depredador alto y fornido cuya arma principal es una especie de martillo de pulso magnético, el combate es pura fuerza bruta. La segunda historia en el Japón feudal de 1600, donde vemos un depredador más delgado y ágil que enfrenta a un samurai y un shinobi, con armas cortantes y de rápido despliegue. La tercera historia es en 1941 iniciando la segunda guerra mundial, donde ahora vemos un depredador acechando desde su nave a pilotos de aviones.

Thanks to these three stories, we see three types of evolution: that of the Predators, the warriors, and their weapons. This gives us a better perspective of the Predator universe, something not perceived with the years between films, where only humanity seemed to evolve and the Predators remained the same. The mastermind behind this is Dan Trachtenberg. For me, another huge success of this film is his direction; he knows the formula for what works and what audiences like, and he proves it again with this movie, just like he did with "Predator: Prey."

Gracias a las tres historias podemos ver tres tipos de evolución: la de los depredadores, la de los guerreros y las armas de cada uno. Esto nos brinda una mejor perspectiva del universo Predator, algo que no se percibía con los años de diferencia entre películas, donde solo pereció evolucionar la humanidad y los depredadores son los mismos. El artífice de esto es Dan Trachtenberg, definitivamente para mi el otro gran acierto de esta película es contar con su dirección, él conoce la fórmula para que esto funcione, que es lo que agrada el publico, y lo vuelve a demostrar con esta película, así como lo hizo en Predator: Prey.

The animation style is another success for me. After the triumphs of "Arcane" and "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," viewers can quickly feel familiar with this style. The team responsible was The Third Floor studio, under the direction of Josh Wassung, who have been behind several successful projects, clearly demonstrating their experience. However, not everything is positive, as there's an evident lack of budget in the animation's development. The low frame rate is noticeable, meaning character movements look abrupt and sometimes choppy.

El estilo de animación es para mi otro acierto, tras los éxitos de Arcane y Spiderman into the spider verse, los espectadores se pueden sentir rápidamente familiarizados con este estilo. Los responsables de esto fueron los del estudio The Third Floor bajo la dirección de Josh Wassung, quienes han estado tras varios proyectos exitosos dejando claro que son gente de experiencia, sin embargo, no todo es positivo, porque es evidente la falta de presupuesto en el desarrollo de la animación, porque se nota la baja velocidad de fotogramas lo que se traduce en que los movimientos de los personajes se vean bruscos y en ocasiones entrecortados.

My favorite part of the film? The second segment, where the hunt takes place in feudal Japan. Although I'm a huge fan of anything related to Vikings and that part was super epic, the Japan section's combat is much more stylized. I connected much more with the story, even though there are only two lines of dialogue. I loved seeing a more agile and observant Predator. The mix of known and new weapons was a great combination. On top of that, the movie provides information that others didn't; we finally learn that the Predator species is called Yautja and how they operate.

¿Lo mejor de la película para mi? La segunda parte donde la cacería se da en el Japón feudal, aunque soy super fanatico de lo relacionado a vikingos y esta parte fue super épica, la parte de Japón el combate es mucho más estilizado, conecte mucho mas con la historia a pesar de que solo hay dos líneas de dialogo. Me encanto ver un depredador para ágil y observador, la mezcla de armas ya conocidas con nuevas armas fue una gran combinación. A esto le sumo la información que la película brinda que otras no hicieron, por fin se sabe que la especie de los depredadores se llama Yautja y se revela cómo operan.

In summary, for me, the film has more strengths than weaknesses. Even the dialogues are scarce, but they aren't necessary when you want to see action and combat choreographies, which are the perfect language to tell this story. Come on, we're talking about the best hunters in the galaxy against the best warriors from different eras of a world—what more could you ask for? By the way, the cameos at the end of the film and the references are an absolute gem, suggesting this isn't the end; we'll get more of the animated Predator universe.

En resumen para mi la pelicula tiene mas aciertos que puntos en contra, incluso los diálogos son escasos pero no son necesarios cuando lo que quieres es ver acción y coreografías de combate que son el perfecto lenguaje para contar esta historia, vamos, estamos hablando de los mejores cazadores de la galaxia contra los mejores guerreros de distintas épocas de un mundo, que mejor se puede pedir. Por cierto los cameos al final de la película y las referencias son una completa joya que sugieren que esto no se acaba acá, tendremos mas del universo Predator animado.
