A few weeks back, I shared what were the reviews of the series '1883' and '1923' both prequels to the Yellowstone series that began in 2018 with its first season. The prequels came years later and intend to have more seasons, however, the Yellowstone series ended its fifth season with its last episode in January this year, but that was not the end of the series, as the fifth season was split into 2 and the second part is expected to be released in the second half of this year.

Hace unas semanas atrás, compartí lo que fueron las reseñas de las series '1883' y '1923' ambas precuelas de la serie Yellowstone que comenzó en 2018 con su primera temporada. Las precuelas vinieron años después y pretenden tener mas temporadas, sin embargo, la serie Yellowstone finalizó su quinta temporada con su ultimo capítulo a principios de este año, pero ese no fue el fin de la serie, ya que la quinta temporada fue dividida en 2 y se espera que la segunda parte sea estrenada en el segundo semestre de este año.

It was interesting to watch this series, first because of how long it is, 5 seasons, most of them of 10 chapters of 1 hour, it is a lot of content to watch, maybe it is because we are used to that currently the miniseries predominate and the public demands more and more for new content, which makes the stories where you have to wait a year for a new season are not so popular.

The series tells the story of the Dutton family, exactly in 2018, who continue to run one of the largest ranches in the United States, exactly in the state of Montana, in Yellowstone County. The ranch is named Yellowstone because of its proximity to the national park and the county where it is located, which has the same name. These lands were given to the Dutton family by the Indians who lived in the area and to this day they have defended them as their own, preserving the traditions of cattle raising as true cowboys.

Fue interesante ver esta serie, primero por lo larga que es, 5 temporadas la mayoría de 10 capítulos de 1 hora, es mucho contenido por ver, quizás es porque estamos acostumbrados que actualmente las miniseries predominan y el público cada vez demanda mas por nuevo contenido, lo que hace que las historias donde haya que esperar un año para una nueva temporada no sean tan populares.

La serie cuenta la historia de la familia Dutton, exactamente en 2018 que continúan al frente de uno de los ranchos mas granmdes de los estados unidos, exactamente en el estado de Montana, en el condado de Yellowstone. El rancho lleva por nombre Yellowstone por su proximidad al parque nacional y al condado donde se ubica que tiene el mismo nombre. Estas tierras le fueron entregadas a la familia por los indios que habitaban en la zona y hasta la fecha las han defendido como suyas, conservando las tradiciones de la cría de ganado como verdaderos vaqueros.

Dutton Family

Montana is one of the few states in the country that still preserves its nature and traditions, which is an attraction for other people in the country who want to experience what it is like to be a cowboy or live so close to nature, large corporations see this as a business opportunity and want to exploit tourism in the area, developing large urban, building airports and ski resorts, but the main obstacle is the Dutton family that will not give up any of their land.

While watching the series, I wrote a review of each season, it seemed the most reasonable thing to do, since there are 5 long seasons to summarize an opinion in a few lines, besides, it is impossible for me to keep in my memory so much content, so here I share what I wrote.

Montana es uno de los pocos estados en el pais que aun conserva su naturaleza y sus tradiciones, lo cual resulta un atractivo para otras personas del pais que desean experimentar lo que es ser un vaquero o vivir tan cerca de la naturaleza, las grandes corporaciones ven en eso una oportunidad de negocios y desean explotar el turismo en la zona, desarrollando grandes urbanismos, construyendo aeropuertos y centros para esquiar, pero el principal obstáculo es la familia Dutton que no cederá nada de sus tierras.

Mientras veía la serie, en cada temporada escribía una reseña, me pareció lo mas sensato ya que son 5 temporadas extensas para resumir una opinion en pocas líneas, además que conservar en la memoria tanto contenido para mi es imposible, así que acá les comparto lo que escribí.

Season One

It is a small introduction to the current Dutton family that has great influence in the state of Montana beyond their lands. The relationship of the sons with their father seems to surpass the family, with a certain resemblance to that of a boss and his lackeys, it reminded me of the series Succession where power, ambition and personal interests are above the family, in Yellowstone it is all about power, to keep the land as original as possible avoiding at all costs "progress" that outsiders want to bring to the state of Montana.

When I say that the family wants to avoid at all costs the intervention of people outside Montana, I mean every possible means to achieve it, here at first you are not clear who are the good guys or the bad guys, it is difficult to feel sympathy with a character, because everyone does whatever it takes to achieve their interests, even kill anyone who gets in the way. That has caused the Duttons to be broken as a family, the only common interest is their family name and a land, which they do not want to be taken away by businessmen and natives who claim to be the millennial owners and want it back.

Primera temporada

Es una pequeña introducción a la actual familia Dutton que tiene gran influencia en el estado de Montana más allá de sus tierras. La relación de los hijos con su padre parece supera la familiar, con cierto parecido a la de un jefe y sus lacayos, me hizo recordar la serie Succession dónde el poder, la ambición y los intereses personales están por encima de la familia, en Yellowstone se trata de poder, de conservar las tierras lo más original posible evitado a toda costa "el progreso" que los foráneos desean traer al estado de Montana.

Cuando digo que la familia quiere evitar a toda costa la intervención de personas fuera de Montana, me refiero a todo medio posible para lograrlo, acá en un principio no tienes claro quines son los buenos o los malos, cuesta sentir simpatía con un personaje, porque todos hacen lo que sea por lograr sus intereses, incluso matar a quien se interponga. Eso ha provocado que los Dutton estén rotos como familia, el único interés común es su apellido y una tierra, la cuál no quieren que les sea quitada por empresarios y nativos que reclaman ser los propietarios milenarios y las quieren de vuelta.

Thomas Rainwater and John Dutton

John Dutton starring Kevin Costner, must fight against Dan Jenkins played by Danny Huston, an investor who seeks to establish a housing complex for the rich on the outskirts of the Yellowstone Ranch, they will also have as an adversary Thomas Rainwater played by Gil Birmingham, the new tribal chief of the Indian reservation neighboring the ranch who has great aspirations, the main one, to take over the land that they say once belonged to them. Both men are greedy and willing to do anything, thus providing a season full of family and personal challenges, a struggle for power, making it clear that this is just beginning and it will be hard.

John Dutton protagonizado por Kevin Costner, debe luchar contra Dan Jenkins interpretado por Danny Huston, un inversionista que procura establecer un conjunto habitacional para ricos en los linderos del rancho Yellowstone, también tendrán como adversario a Thomas Rainwater interpretado por Gil Birmingham, el nuevo jefe tribal de la reserva india vecina del rancho que tiene grandes aspiraciones, la principal, hacerse con las tierras que dicen algunas vez les perteneció. Ambos hombres son codiciosos y dispuestos a todo, brindando así una temporada llena de desafíos familiares y personales, una lucha por poder, dejando claro que esto apenas comienza y será duro.

Second season

In this season little has changed in the narrative, everything is still focused on the power struggle for the Dutton's Yellowstone ranch land. Apparently money makes you win enemies for free, I guess I'll never know, plus taking TV series or movies as a reference for such a conclusion doesn't seem fair, however, it leaves a lot to think about watching this family fight against so many enemies, them being willing to do anything, even being the bad guys when necessary.

Segunda temporada

En esta temporada poco a cambiado en la narrativa, todo aun se centra en la lucha de poder por las tierras del rancho Yellowstone de los Dutton. Al parecer el dinero te hace ganar enemigos de gratis, creo que jamás lo sabré, además tomar series de televisión o películas como referencia para tal conclusión no parece justo, sin embargo, deja mucho para pensar al ver a esta familia luchar contra tantos enemigo, ellos estando dispuestos a lo que sea, incluso en ser los malos cuando es necesario.

Third season

The fight to keep the land continues but the enemy to face is more powerful and knows how to fight, now they face a mega corporation that wants to urbanize the area, put an airport to develop tourism in winter time for skiers, but the big problem is that their project is in the middle of the land of the Dutton ranch. John refuses to sell to this corporation, he made a promise to his father that he would not sell for anything in the world, that puts him at risk of losing it by expropriation of the state, since what involves development and new jobs is good for the capitalist vision and can not be stopped.

Impressive things have happened this season, one of them was the appearance of a serial killer in the Indian reservation, by being governed by the laws of the tribe, he could kill and not be judged when leaving. These people suffer a lot, they do not stop being vexed, so they decide to set up a trap, but it is not until the moment it is all over and they catch the killer that you know it was, Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) woman of Indian descent native of this reservation, She is the wife of Kayce Dutton, John's youngest son, she would serve as bait for the murderer, who falls into the trap and takes her to where he usually kills his victims, and thanks to the intervention of a sniper she manages to save herself, it was one of the moments of greatest tension that the series has offered so far.

Tercera temporada

La lucha por mantener las tierras continua pero el enemigo a enfrentar es más poderoso y sabe pelear, ahora enfrentan a una mega corporación que desea urbanizar la zona, colocar un aeropuerto para desarrollar el turismo en épocas de invierno para esquiadores, pero el gran problema es que su proyecto esta en medio de las tierras del rancho Dutton. John se niega a vender a esta corporación, el hizo una promesa a su padre que no vendería por nada del mundo, eso le pone en riesgo de perderla por expropiación del estado, ya que lo que implique desarrollo y nuevos empleos es bueno para la visión capitalista y no se puede detener ¿Les suena conocido ese discurso?

Han sucedió cosas impresionantes esta temporada, una de ellas fue la aparición de un asesino serial en la reservación india, al regirse por las leyes de la tribu, este podría matar y no ser juzgado al salir. Estas personas sufren mucho, no dejan de ser vejadas, así que deciden montar una trampa, pero no es hasta el momento en que todo acaba y atrapan al asesino que sabes que lo fue, Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) mujer de descendencia india oriunda de esta reserva, es la esposa de Kayce Dutton el hijo menor de John, ella serviría de sebo para el asesino, el cual cae en la trampa y la lleva a dónde suele matar a sus víctimas, y gracias a la intervención de un francotirador ella logra salvarse, fue uno de los momentos de mayor tension que la serie ha ofrecido hasta ahora.

During the series you question several times who is the bad guy, the Duttons can be ruthless and do not hesitate to kill their enemies, does that make them bad? Their way of acting I think is well described by Beth Dutton played by Kelly Reilly, Jhon's only daughter who in a moment of reflection with Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), Jhon's right hand man, family bully and her husband, stated, "I believe in loving with all your soul, and destroying anything that wants to kill what you love."

I'm not a believer that the end justifies the means, but here it fits Perfecto, this family will do anything to defend what they love the most, their land. Beth so far is my favorite character, she personifies the above statement, she is a ruthless, cold and calculating woman, she will do anything John her father needs to keep the land. Her actions at certain moments will come to seem even sensual, which is also possible thanks to her beauty.

Durante la serie te cuestionas varias veces quién es el malo, los Dutton pueden ser despiadados y no dudan en matar a sus enemigos, ¿eso los hace malos? Su manera de actuar creo que está bien descrita por Beth Dutton interpretada por Kelly Reilly, la única hija de Jhon quien en un momento de reflexión junto a Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), mano derecha de Jhon, matón de la familia y su esposo, declaró: "creo en amar con toda tu alma, y destruir cualquier cosa que quiera matar lo que amas".

No soy creyente de que el fin justifica los medios, pero acá encaja Perfecto, esta familia hará todo por defender lo que más aman, su tierra. Beth hasta ahora es mi personaje favorito, ella personifica la declaración anterior, es una mujer despiadada, fría y calculadora, hará todo lo que John su padre necesite para conservar las tierras. Su accionar en ciertos momentos llegará parecer hasta sensual, lo cual es posible también gracias a su belleza.

Fourth season

The struggle for power and control of the land reaches a new level, the Duttons seem to have defeated everyone who has threatened them, even managed to emerge victorious from a mega bombing, but the question remains as to who is the mastermind. Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), the family lawyer and son of John, is the attorney general of the state of Montana. He is an insecure character who seeks John's constant approval, and maintains a constant struggle with his sister Beth who questions his loyalty to the family, accusing him of being the perpetrator of such an attack. This pair hide the darkest secrets of the family, their relationship is one of hatred and leads them to perform the most vile actions.

The fourth season is about finding out who was the mastermind of the attack, they manage to find out and it is who least thought, it was an unexpected plot twist that I did not think they were able to achieve after 3 season, I regain interest to keep watching the series, I was starting to get tired of the narrative of fighting for land. In parallel, stories of characters linked to the family are developed, men who at some point did not make the best decisions and the Duttons decide to give them another chance working for them, but at a high cost, complete loyalty, carrying the Yellowstone brand engraved on their chest.

Cuarta temporada

La lucha por el poder y control de la tierra alcanza un nuevo nivel, los Dutton parecen haber vencido a todo aquel que les ha amenazado, incluso lograron salir victoriosos de un mega atentado, pero queda la interrogante de quién es el autor intelectual. Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) abogado de la familia e hijo de Jhon, desempeña el cargo de procurador general del estado de Montana, es un personaje inseguro que busca la aprobación constante de John, mantiene una lucha constante con su hermana Beth que pone tela de juicio su lealtad a la familia, acusando de ser el perpetrador de tal atentado. Este par ocultan los secretos más oscuros de la familia, su relación es de odio y les lleva a realizar las acciones más viles.

La cuarta temporada transcurre en averiguar quién fue el autor intelectual del atentado, logran averiguarlo y es quien menos pensaba, fue un giro inesperado de la trama que no creí que fueran capaces de lograr luego de 3 temporada, recupero el interés por seguir viendo la serie, ya empezaba a cansarme la narrativa de lucha por las tierras. En paralelo se desarrollan historias de personajes vinculados a la familia, hombres que en algún momento no tomaron las mejores decisiones y los Dutton deciden darles otra oportunidad trabajando para ellos, pero a un elevado costo, completa lealtad, llevando consigo grabada en su pecho la marca de Yellowstone.

Jamie Dutton

The fight against the investment fund that intends to expropriate part of the Dutton's ranch for the construction of an airport and an entire city in its surroundings, reaches a point of inflection, it seems that there is no way to beat them, but John comes up with the brilliant idea of running for governor of the state of Montana, but his interests are not to watch over the care, everything has to do with preserving the land of his ranch, he is willing to incursions into politics to have enough power to stop the actions of the investment fund.

La lucha contra el fondo de inversiones que pretende expropiar parte del rancho de los Dutton para la construcción de un aeropuerto y toda una ciudad en sus alrededores, llega a un punto de inflección, parece que no hay manera de vencerles, pero a Jhon se le ocurre la brillante idea de postularse como gobernador del estado de Montana, pero sus intereses no son velar por los cuidados, todo tiene que ver con preservar la tierra de su rancho, está dispuesto a incursiones en la política para tener el poder suficiente de frenar las acciones del fondo de inversiones.

Fifth season

Unlike the other seasons, this one only has 8 episodes, it has been divided in two parts, I say it seems, because with the scriptwriters strike and Kevin Costner's conflicts with the producer, it is not known if this season will close in the second semester of this year. Hopefully the conflicts will be solved, the season was too inconclusive, most of its episodes were spent in ranch and cattle problems, the story of the characters seemed to be frozen, except for the last two episodes that begin what seems to be the crucial battle for the permanence of the Yellowstone Ranch.

Quinta temporada

A diferencia de las demás temporadas está solo cuenta 8 episodios, pues resulta que ha sido dividida en dos partes, digo parece, porque con la huelga de guionistas y los conflictos de Kevin Costner con la productora, no se sabe si esta temporada cerrará en el segundo semestre de este año. Ojala los conflictos se solucionen, la temporada quedo demasiado inconclusa, la mayor parte de sus episodios transcurrieron en problemas del rancho y ganado, la historia de los personajes pareció quedar congelada, salvo por los dos últimos episodios que dan inicio a lo que parece será la batalla crucial por la permanencia del rancho Yellowstone.

In general terms, the plot of the series can be described with the phrase of one of its characters: Winners are not judged by how, that's for losers, a phrase that arises after so many failed attempts to take over the lands of Yellowstone Ranch, where morality and fair play seem to have no place.

These stories and others I have witnessed so far this year about mega corporations and big brands, all seem to coincide with the idea that the end justifies the means, no matter that family relationships are affected, that morals and good manners will never be above economic interests. I know it's "entertainment" but I wonder what the writers of these stories were based on, because if it's all true, the world is in decline.

En líneas generales la trama de la serie se puede describir con la frase de uno de sus personajes: A los ganadores no se les juzga por el como, eso queda para los perdedores, frase que surge luego de tantos intentos fallidos por apoderarse de las tierras del rancho Yellowstone, donde la moralidad y el juego limpio no parecen tener cabida.

Estás historia y otras que he presenciado en lo que va de año sobre mega corporaciones y grandes marcas, todas parecen coincidir con la ideo de que el fin justifica los medios, sin importar que las relaciones familiares se vean afectadas, que la moral y sanas costumbres nunca estarán por encima de los intereses económicos. Se que es "entretenimiento" pero me pregunto en qué se basaron quienes escribieron estas historias, porque sí todo es verdad, el mundo va en decadencia.
