Don't Judge a Cop by his Cover: A Review of the Movie, Sleepless

I'm a fan of action, crime and thriller movies. And this particular movie I watched it the year it was released but I also watched it recently and that's what motivated me to write a review about the film.

THE TECHNICAL DETAILS
Sleepless is an American crime thriller film released in January 13, 2017. The movie is a remake of the French movie, " Sleepless Night" by Frédéric Jardin, Nicholas Saada and Olivier Douyere.
Sleepless was produced by Roy Lee and Adam Stone. The production companies includes Riverstone pictures and Vertigo Entertainment. It was distributed by Open road films and stage 6 films. The film has a running time of 95 minutes.
The film starred popular actors and actresses such as Jamie Foxx as Vincent Downs, T.I as Sean Chase, Gabrielle Union as Dena, Michelle Monaghan as Jennifer Bryant, Dermot Mulroney as Stanley Rubino, Scoot McNairy as Rob Novak among others.

PLOT SYNOPSIS
A Las Vegas vice LVMPD policeman, Vincent Downs who is torn between his work life and family life alongside his partner Sean Cass intercepted and robbed a cocaine shipment belonging to a Stanley Rubino, an entrepreneur who plans on selling this shipment to Rob Novak the son of the mob boss as part of a previous deal.

Eventually things went side ways as the internal Affairs officers in the person's of Jennifer Bryant and her partner clashed with Vincent and Sean in their bid to cover their involvement in the investigation of the crime.

It doesn't get any better as Vincent already strained relationship with his estranged wife, Dena got worse as their son Thomas was abducted to force Vincent to give up the shipment. In his bid to rescue his son at the Luxus hotel where he was supposed to handover the cocaine for his son Jennifer tailed him and took away the duffle bag containing the coke so as to prove her point of catching an officer dirty.
Patience running thing and Rob Novak desperation and disposition to violence brought everything to its crescendo as eventually Jennifer finally realised that Vincent was one of them an internal Affairs officer but her partner was dirty and was in business with the Novaks.

PERSONAL OPINION

I think the movie did justice to the life style in Las Vegas. The life of an undercover agent trying to unravel the mob and the those involved whether in the police force or not.

Leave it to Jamie Foxx he didn't disappoint in his role as Vincent Downs. He acted the worried dad role perfectly who is also under cover without his partner or the internal affairs officers' knowledge of his status. I like the action scenes in the film most especially when he was trying to explain himself to Jennifer Bryant who despite his explanation didn't believe him and wanted to arrest him at all cost. This led to a scuffle between them. Though Vincent was injured but because of what is at stake he gave it his all to rescue his family and Jennifer Bryant.
I think the movie is okay to watch and get entertained might not be a Oscar award winning movie but it sure did deliver on every aspect.

CONCLUSION
In life we should be able to own up to our mistakes which Jennifer Bryant did as she visited Vincent in the hospital to appreciate him for alerting her to the fact that her partner was dirty which eventually saved her and she admitted her wrong for assuming that he was dirty in not so many words though.

But my disappointment with the movie or in particular the producers is the fact that the movie's conclusion was not conclusive as the ending showed that the Mob still had men working for them in the DEA. They were at the scene to secure it and make some arrest but one of them answered the phone call off the dead son of Novak and inform him that there is a problem.
So from all indications I was anticipating a sequel that will involve Novak himself coming to Las Vegas to take vengeance on those involved in the death of his son and obviously he will be caught, the dirty cops in his payroll exposed and his network destroyed.

As I said this movie ticked all the boxes for me in the aspect of crime, thriller and most of all action.
