Every year, a wide variety of movies are released, and the great thing about today’s technology is that we can use various tools to create better versions of old movies and turn them into hits. That’s why a new adaptation of The Mummy series was recently released—it’s very exciting to see how this new director is embracing modern elements to create a quality horror film.

I was a kid when I saw some of the first Mummy movies, and they were really entertaining just because they included things you only see in those kinds of movies. This new film aims for something different—it’s not the same dark humor or tomb-raiding. Instead, it transforms a horror story into one of grief, family, guilt, and revenge, creating the perfect combination to give you some good scares.

Cada año salen una gran variedad de películas y lo bueno de hoy en día con las distintas herramientas se pueden crear versiones mejores de películas viejas y llevarlas a que se conviertan en un éxito. Por eso hace poco se estrenó una nueva adaptación de la saga de la momia, la cual es algo muy emocionante y ver cómo este nuevo director apuesta por lo moderno y así crear una de algo de terror que sea bueno.

Estaba pequeño cuando vi algunas de las primeras películas de la momia y eran muy entretenidas por el mismo hecho de colocar cosas que solo salen allí. En esta nueva película busca algo diferente y que no sea el mismo humor negro, ni tumba. Si no más bien transforma una historia de terror en dolor, familia, culpa y venganza creando la combinación perfecta para llevarse rubia buenos sustos.

Here, the plot introduces us to a family that lost their daughter during an expedition—a devastating loss for anyone—and from there, the suspense and adventure unfold, driven by the fact that she reappears years later, making the film compelling and drawing you in to find out: What happened? Where was she? Is it really her? It’s also a film for audiences who enjoy horror and for those who want to see another installment of The Mummy.

Each of the special effects and props used adds a great touch, which is impressive because it feels very real—and surely no one would want to experience something like that. Plus, there’s that shift from a moment of calm to a moment of sheer terror. Another thing that adds value is each of the characters; in my case, I don’t know any of them, but the way they convey those emotions and decisions is well done. Despite having a lot of filler to cover the entire story, it doesn’t turn into a bad adaptation.

Aquí la trama nos presenta a una familia que perdió a su hija en una exploración, la cual es un gran dolor para quien sea y a partir de allí se crea ese suspenso y aventura, por el mismo hecho de que años después aparece haciendo que la película funcione y te enganche a descubrir ¿Qué paso? ¿Dónde estaba? ¿Será la misma?, además es una película para un público que le gusta el horror y para quienes quieren ver una secuencia más de la momia.

Cada uno de los efectos y equipos que usan le da un gran toque, la cual es de admirar porque se siente muy real y seguro que a nadie le gustaría pasar algo como eso. Además, esa combinación de estar un momento de tranquilidad a pasar a un momento de mucho susto. Otras de las cosas que le da valor es cada uno de los personajes, donde en mi caso no conozco a ninguno, sin embargo, como transmiten esas emociones y las decisiones, son buenas. A pesar de contar con bastante relleno para así poder abarcar toda la historia y se convierte en esa adaptación mala.

This was a pretty interesting result, and what really stands out about this installment isn’t the monsters, the gods, or the tombs, but the fear of not being able to let go of the past—something every human struggles with. However, this new Mummy movie is for those who want a more modern take, but personally, I prefer the earlier ones.

Este fue un resultado bastante interesante y lo que realmente vale de esta entrega no son los monstruos, ni los dioses o tumbas, sino del miedo a no poder dejar ir el pasado, algo que todo ser humano le cuesta. Sin embargo, esta nueva entrega de la momia es para quienes quieran una versión más moderna, pero en mi caso me quedo con las primeras.
