In recent years, a large number of films of different genres and directors have been released, which has allowed cinema to experience significant growth. Furthermore, technology plays a major role in our lives today, and that is why several films are taking this as a reference point. That is why Mercy was recently released, a totally unique film that combines thriller, science fiction, artificial intelligence, and a question that many of us may have: what would happen if our destiny were in the hands of artificial intelligence?

The story takes us to a futuristic world with spaceships and technology that controls everything, even the judicial system, leading to a point where decisions are made by an AI capable of analyzing data, patterns, and digital evidence in a matter of seconds. This makes for a very interesting film, full of action and, above all, the chance to see a detective try to clear himself of a possible crime, all in a world where the case will be evaluated by an artificial intelligence system that he himself helped to develop.

En los últimos años, se han estrenado una gran cantidad de películas de distintos géneros y directores, eso ha permitido que el cine esté teniendo un gran crecimiento, además hoy en día la tecnología juega un gran papel en nuestra vida y por eso varias películas están tomando eso como referencia. Por eso hace poco se estrenó Mercy, una propuesta totalmente única que mezcla thriller, ciencia ficción, inteligente artificial y una pregunta que quizás muchos tengamos ¿qué pasa si nuestro destino quedara en manos de una inteligencia artificial?

La historia nos lleva a un mundo futurista, con naves y una tecnología que controla todo e incluso el sistema judicial y eso ha llevado hasta el punto de confiar y tomar decisiones mediante una IA capaz de analizar datos, patrones y evidencia digital en cuestión de segundos. La cual permite crear una película muy interesante, llena de acción y sobre todo ver a un detective tratar de liberarse de un posible crimen y todo gira en mundo donde el caso será evaluado por un sistema de inteligencia artificial y que él mismo ayudó a desarrollar.

It also shows how artificial intelligence dominates at all times and how humans depend on it to move forward, and surely in the future we will be that same type of person. It also shows the struggle to prove one's innocence against a system that, in theory, does not make mistakes because it is very modern, yet it is still a tool.

One of the most interesting aspects of this production was the creation of something different, not the classic crime or conspiracy thriller, but something much more current: technology, AI, and the idea that algorithms could make moral decisions. This leads us to ask ourselves: How accurate is the information provided by AI? Can a machine truly understand a crime? And many other questions, which are reflected in the film.

Desde el primer momento, la película cuenta con un gran ritmo, ya que va directamente al punto y de esa manera poder construir dicho conflicto y la tensión se mantiene constante. Además, se muestra cómo la inteligencia artificial predomina en todo momento y es allí donde el ser humano depende de ella para poder avanzar y seguro que en futuro nosotros seremos ese mismo estilo de persona. Como también esa lucha por demostrar su inocencia contra un sistema que, en teoría, no comete errores, por ser muy moderno, aun así es una herramienta.

Uno de los puntos más interesantes de esta producción fue en crear algo distinto y no ese clásico thriller de crimen o conspiración, sino de algo mucho más actual y es la tecnológica, la IA y la idea de que los algoritmos podrían llegar a tomar decisiones morales. Donde nos lleva a preguntarnos ¿Que tan cierto sea la información de la IA?, ¿Puede una máquina comprender realmente un crimen? Y muchas otras cosas, que se ve reflejada en la película.

Each scene is very well crafted, using modern resources such as screens, digital records, and multiple sources of information, seeking to reflect a technological world, although this can be very risky due to the fact that you never know who will see your personal information on a browser. Despite all these elements and a story that moves forward, there comes a point where everything becomes predictable and some twists fail to have the expected impact, simply because the machine reveals and analyzes everything immediately.

In terms of performances, there is a wide variety of actors, especially Chris Pratt, who gives a solid performance, focused on the urgency and desperation of the dramatic moments. Alongside him, Rebecca Ferguson brings presence and solidity, although the development of the characters does not always allow them to exploit their full potential.

Cada una de las escenas muy bien trabajas, ya que utilizan recursos modernos como pantallas, registros digitales y múltiples fuentes de información, buscando reflejar un mundo tecnológico, aunque esto puede llegar a ser muy riesgoso por el mismo hecho de que uno no sabrá quién verá tu información personal en un navegador. A pesar de contar con todos esos elementos y una que historia avanza, lleva un punto donde todo se vuelve predecibles y algunos giros no logran el impacto esperado, por el mismo hecho de que la máquina lo revela y lo analiza de una manera inmediata.

En cuanto a las actuaciones, cuenta con una amplia variedad de actores en especial Chris Pratt, quien ofrece una interpretación correcta, enfocada en la urgencia y la desesperación que en grandes momentos dramáticos. A su lado, Rebecca Ferguson aporta presencia y solidez, aunque el desarrollo de los personajes no siempre les permite explotar todo su potencial.

That's why Mercy is one of those films that you enjoy, even if it leaves you feeling that it could have been so much more, but with an uncomfortable question: would you rather be judged by a human or by a machine?

Mercy funciona como una experiencia entretenida y ligera dentro del género, al ser algo distinto y sobre todo poder utilizar esos temas de hoy en día, además ofrece una premisa atractiva, un ritmo ágil y un tema que conecta con las inquietudes actuales sobre el papel de la inteligencia artificial en nuestras vidas. Por eso Mercy es de esas películas que se disfrutan y aunque al final deje la sensación de que pudo haber sido mucho más, pero con una pregunta incómoda ¿preferirías ser juzgado por un humano o por una máquina?
