Cuenta la historia de tres amigos que se juntan para investigar acerca de una bruja que vive en el bosque, ellos deciden comenzar la filmación de un documental sobre la bruja, así que se adentran en el bosque para saber si la bruja es real o no.

La película muestra la vida entre los cineastas ficticios Heather Donohue, Joshua Leonard y Michael Williams, también muestra una relación previa de Josh con Heather y que ya habían trabajado anteriormente en documentales juntos y debido a eso a Heather le da mucho miedo cuando Josh desaparece luego que en uno de los días que estaban en el bosque se perdieron y que caminaron por horas en círculos. The first night alone gets much worse when they hear Josh screaming and can't find him.

La película nos hace pensar que todo lo que pasan los protagonistas es algo real, ya que el marketing de la película se encargo de hacernos pensar que estos jóvenes realmente estaban desaparecidos, y que había algo malo pasando en ese pueblo, es interesante ver el estilo de grabación donde al principio puede ser difícil de entender lo que pasa en cada escena, pero nos muestra lo que debemos ver para crear este horror psicológico, ya que en ningún momento aparece la bruja de Blair ni ningún tipo de espíritu o aparición, todo miedo viene siendo creado por la actuación de los 3 jóvenes y las historias que cuentan los lugareños dan base para pensar que algo malo va a pasar, además de que el final nos hace pensar que Mike a sido poseído o algo así ya que el mantenerse inmóvil después de buscar tan desesperado a Josh, crea la idea de que lo que sea que se llevo a Josh también tiene a Mike.
