The story is about agents from MI5 who are relegated to jobs of lesser prestige because of their incompetence in previous missions. The very first scene of the series was very well done, it takes place in an airport and the agents are trying to stop a terrorist from a potential explosion of a bomb that would kill dozens of people. Later in the episode, we learn more about this particular mission that takes away the feeling of tragedy, but at the moment it was quite enjoyable to watch.
The scene despite being very short is very intense and by the end of it, we can see the big mistake committed by one of the agents called River Cartwright. It was a very silly confusion that could have had catastrophic consequences. I am not sure why this agent wasn't fired, maybe there are politics that prevent this type of worker from being fired, but since he didn't do a good job to say it simply, he gets demoted.
If the frustration of suffering this demotion wasn't enough, he needs to endure his new boss constantly messing with him due to his previous mistakes. He went from being a field agent to now performing some type of low-level office job where he doesn't even know what he really needs to do and he is clearly feeling super uncomfortable with his new situation.
He doesn't consider himself responsible for the mistake and believes he has been treated unfairly. It was clear to me he was desperate for an opportunity to redeem himself and prove to everyone that he can be a good field agent. He knows he is competent and quick witted enough to be a successful agent, and he only needs one opportunity to convince everyone of this.
Cartwright's grandfather was also an agent for MI5, this character is introduced during a moment when Cartwright is looking for some type of guidance to solve his problematic situation.
Eventually, there is a new worrisome crime that took place in the same city where he lives. A criminal group has kidnapped a man, they posted all the information online, and are threatening with cutting his head off while showing it live on cam. The reason for this crime is simply because the victim is of foreign origin and the criminals are local people tired of reading about all the extreme crimes perpetrated by individuals of foreign cultures. Since the first time, these characters are introduced it became clear one of them seemed to be out of place, so I was expecting something related to him to happen and maybe screw over their criminal plan.
There is also a journalist who for some reason is quite alarmed because he is sure a terrorist attack will take place. The MI5 is quickly aware of this and he becomes a target for investigation and observation. They suspect this journalist probably has information that could help them prevent the supposed attack.
Despite the fact Cartwright should be doing very boring jobs in his new office job, he decided to make a risky move and begins to act as if he was a field agent once again. His plan is very risky and it basically consists in following the journalist and trying to discover more information about him.
La historia trata sobre agentes del MI5 que son relegados a trabajos de menor prestigio por su incompetencia en misiones anteriores. La primera escena de la serie estuvo muy bien hecha, tiene lugar en un aeropuerto y los agentes están tratando de detener a un terrorista de una posible explosión de una bomba que mataría a docenas de personas. Más adelante en el episodio, aprendemos más sobre esta misión en particular que nos quita la sensación de tragedia, pero en este momento fue bastante disfrutable de ver.
La escena a pesar de ser muy corta es muy intensa y al final de la misma, podemos ver el gran error cometido por uno de los agentes llamado River Cartwright. Fue una confusión muy tonta que podría haber tenido consecuencias catastróficas. No estoy seguro de por qué este agente no fue despedido, tal vez hay políticas que impiden que este tipo de trabajador sea despedido, pero como no hizo un buen trabajo por decirlo de manera simple, es degradado.
Si la frustración de sufrir esta degradación no fuera suficiente, necesita soportar que su nuevo jefe se meta constantemente con él debido a sus errores anteriores. Pasó de ser un agente de campo a ahora realizar algún tipo de trabajo de oficina de bajo nivel donde ni siquiera sabe lo que realmente necesita hacer y claramente se siente súper incómodo con su nueva situación.
No se considera responsable del error y cree que ha sido tratado injustamente. Estaba claro para mí que estaba desesperado por una oportunidad para redimirse y demostrar a todos que puede ser un buen agente de campo. Sabe que es lo suficientemente competente e ingenioso como para ser un agente exitoso, y solo necesita una oportunidad para convencer a todos de esto.
El abuelo de Cartwright también fue agente del MI5, este personaje se presenta durante un momento en que Cartwright está buscando algún tipo de orientación para resolver su problemática situación.
Eventualmente, hay un nuevo crimen preocupante que tiene lugar en la misma ciudad donde vive. As the story advances, we will see many examples of agents who are supposed to be on the same side, lying to each other as if they were rivals instead of teammates.
There are no real alliances in this story, everyone is constantly at each other throats, and people are mostly on their own despite the fact it might seem like they have a team that can provide support.
Everything is very politicized in this series, and we ended up learning that the main crime, the kidnapping of the innocent guy of foreign origin, has some political background with extremist leanings that is more perverse and machiavellian than anything a normal person would think. Nothing is really what it seems to be and this realization kind of took me by surprise even though I knew this series had a lot about espionage.
While it is true the series can be considered very realistic the majority of the time and with excellent performances from the whole cast, there was a scene that was very hard to believe due to the ease with which a character managed to steal a car. It isn't that he hardwired it, he managed to get the keys themselves without any effort and exactly during a moment when he needed them. This was very exaggerated and felt like a low-effort creative moment from the creators.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the resolution of the plot with all its complications and surprises. Some parts of it were predictable but there are also some twists that are impossible to see coming.
There is a second season confirmed and I believe this series has much more to give. When it comes to intelligent services and espionage there is a never-ending stream of new conspiracies being created, and I think this series' style is very appropriate to explore this type of stories. So I am really looking forward for more of it.
Final thoughts
The series was very interesting to watch. I enjoyed the constant tension as the agents and spies had to constantly deal with new challenging situations, and their stress was very palpable throughout the series.
I think they did a very realistic portrayal of this type of job, they didn't glorify it nor did they demonize it. It was a very raw and pure way of exploring a story where MI5 agents are the main characters.
I found it very enjoyable and I honestly believe that most people in the mood of watching a story full of agents, spies, and counter-terrorist activities will have a nice time watching it.
A medida que avanza la historia, veremos muchos ejemplos de agentes que se supone que están del mismo lado, mintiéndose unos a otros como si fueran rivales en lugar de compañeros de equipo.
No hay alianzas reales en esta historia, todos están constantemente enfrentados entre sí, y las personas están en su mayoría solas a pesar del hecho de que puede parecer que tienen un equipo que puede brindar apoyo.

Esto fue muy exagerado y se sintió como un momento creativo de bajo esfuerzo por parte de los creadores.
Sin embargo, disfruté de la resolución de la trama con todas sus complicaciones y sorpresas. Algunas partes eran predecibles, pero también hay algunos giros que son imposibles de ver venir.
Hay una segunda temporada confirmada y creo que esta serie tiene mucho más que dar. Cuando se trata de servicios inteligentes y espionaje, hay un flujo interminable de nuevas conspiraciones que se están creando, y creo que el estilo de esta serie es muy apropiado para explorar este tipo de historias. Así que tengo muchas ganas de más.

Me pareció muy disfrutable y honestamente creo que la mayoría de las personas con el estado de ánimo de ver una historia llena de agentes, espías y actividades antiterroristas lo pasarán bien viéndola.

Oh, you've seen it. I'm looking forward to the second season which was filmed at the same time as the first season. At the end of the second season episode there were previews of the second season. There are a lot of books to adapt, I liked the dark humor and dark atmosphere of this spy series.
I am looking forward to the new season as well and it can hopefully maintain the same level of quality. Even though this type of story isn't my favorite I surely enjoy watching it from time to time.
