This series is a spin-off of a popular Spanish series called The Boarding School from the year 2007. The story takes place in the same universe but the truth is that the first series doesn't have much influence on this one. They can be considered independent creative works with the common aspect they are both about mysterious boarding schools.
Boarding schools have the potential to become creepy and mysterious places. Especially if they are big, because the people who live there are kind of apart from normal civilization, and in the case of Las Cumbres, the students aren't even allowed to leave because they were sent there due to being problematic young people.
It is clear this isn't a normal boarding school, most teachers are extremely strict and the way they impart discipline to the students could easily be considered pure abuse.
I remember watching a video about a real-life remote boarding school called The Elan School, that served as a place to do all types of abuse you can imagine to the teenagers that lived there. It was a nightmare for some of them, and the saddest thing is that as far as I know, no one went to jail for this.
Las Cumbres isn't that extreme. The school's system isn't necessarily designed to directly cause harm to the students, but it does leave them exposed to a sinister organization called Crow’s Nest which resides in that same remote area. Maybe they are related to the boarding school? This is one of the doubts I have had since the first season.
All of the mysteries of this series are related to this hidden organization. Season 1 showed us how extreme their actions can be, and how organized and strategic they can be to protect their operations.
Imagine being trapped in a huge castle full of secrets and surrounded by woods, knowing there is an ancient criminal organization near the castle or maybe even inside the castle with most likely paranormal beliefs and that they would get you if given the chance.
Any person would become a nervous wreck if forced to face those circumstances and that's why the performance from the cast and the writing had to be very good to make everything a little bit believable.

La historia transcurre en el mismo universo pero la verdad es que la primera serie no tiene mucha influencia en esta. Pueden considerarse trabajos creativos independientes con el aspecto común de que ambos tratan sobre misteriosos internados.
Los internados tienen el potencial de convertirse en lugares espeluznantes y misteriosos. Sobre todo si son grandes, porque la gente que vive allí está como fuera de la civilización normal, y en el caso de Las Cumbres, los estudiantes ni siquiera pueden salir porque los enviaron allí por ser jóvenes problemáticos.
Está claro que este no es un internado normal, la mayoría de los profesores son extremadamente estrictos y la forma en que imparten disciplina a los estudiantes fácilmente podría considerarse puro abuso.
Recuerdo haber visto un video sobre un internado remoto de la vida real llamado The Elan School, que servía como un lugar para hacer todo tipo de abuso que puedas imaginar a los adolescentes que vivían allí. Para algunos fue una pesadilla, y lo más triste es que, que yo sepa, nadie fue a la cárcel por esto.
Las Cumbres no es tan extremo. El sistema de la escuela no está necesariamente diseñado para causar daño directo a los estudiantes, pero los deja expuestos a una organización siniestra llamada El Nido del Cuervo que reside en esa misma área remota. ¿Quizás están relacionados con el internado? Esta es una de las dudas que tengo desde la primera temporada.
Todos los misterios de esta serie están relacionados con esta organización oculta. La temporada 1 nos mostró cuán extremas pueden ser sus acciones y cuán organizadas y estratégicas pueden ser para proteger sus operaciones.
Imagina estar atrapado en un enorme castillo lleno de secretos y rodeado de bosques, sabiendo que hay una antigua organización criminal cerca del castillo o tal vez incluso dentro del castillo con creencias paranormales y que te atraparían si tuvieran la oportunidad.
Cualquier persona se volvería un manojo de nervios si se le obligara a enfrentar esas circunstancias y es por eso que la actuación del elenco y la escritura tenían que ser muy buenas para hacer que todo fuera un poco creíble.
The security measures from the school's adults were very ineffective because these students were constantly able to scurry out at night to do all sorts of forbidden things.
Since the first season, some students constantly attempt to escape the school but they are hunted down like criminals and they usually end up getting caught.
In this second season, it was do easy to outsmart the teachers and their security measures that the series ended up losing some tension and suspense compared to the first one, as well as some credibility because one would expect the teachers to be extra alert if they already know the students are prone to scurry out, but they were outsmarted time and time again and it ended up seeing so easy.
Many of the students' psychological stability gets disturbed since the first season due to the disappearance of one of them, at the hands of a hooded member of the aforementioned sinister organization Crow's Nest. Plus, there are also some traumatic deaths involved in the story.
This convinced them that they aren't safe in this school and that many things are kept secret from them by the people in charge of the school. Or so they suspect...
There is also a new character with a very destabilized personality whose only purpose appears to be to introduce chaos into her fellow students life. Nothing good comes out of this character and I wasn't expecting to see a new important character being introduced out of nowhere. This character didn't even appeared in season 1 and I think she was introduced only because one of the main female characters from the previous season needed a new friend.
The series doesn't show anything hardcore paranormal, it constantly insinuates that paranormal events can exist in this universe and that these events might be closer to the students than they realize. One of these paranormal events is when 2 students begin to have exactly the same hallucination, as if they shared some type of mental link or maybe they were both being manipulated by the same thing.
Las medidas de seguridad de los adultos de la escuela eran muy ineficaces porque estos estudiantes constantemente podían salir corriendo por la noche para hacer todo tipo de cosas prohibidas.
Desde la primera temporada, algunos estudiantes intentan constantemente escapar de la escuela, pero son perseguidos como delincuentes y, por lo general, terminan siendo atrapados.
En esta segunda temporada, fue tan fácil burlar a los maestros y sus medidas de seguridad que la serie terminó perdiendo algo de tensión y suspenso en comparación con la primera, así como algo de credibilidad porque uno esperaría que los maestros estuvieran más alerta si ya saben que los estudiantes son propensos a salir corriendo, pero los profes eran burlados una y otra vez y todo parecía tan fácil.
La estabilidad psicológica de muchos de los estudiantes se ve perturbada desde la primera temporada debido a la desaparición de uno de ellos, a manos de un encapuchado miembro de la mencionada siniestra organización El Nido del Cuervo. Además, también hay algunas muertes traumáticas involucradas en la historia.
Esto los convenció de que no están seguros en esta escuela y que las personas a cargo de la escuela les mantienen en secreto muchas cosas. O eso sospechan...
También hay un nuevo personaje con una personalidad muy desestabilizada cuyo único propósito parece ser introducir el caos en la vida de sus compañeros de estudios. Nada bueno sale de este personaje y no esperaba ver a un nuevo personaje importante que se presentara de la nada. Este personaje ni siquiera apareció en la temporada 1 y creo que fue presentada solo porque uno de los personajes femeninos principales de la temporada anterior necesitaba una nueva amiga.
La serie no muestra nada paranormal extremo, constantemente insinúa que pueden existir eventos paranormales en este universo y que estos eventos pueden estar más cerca de los estudiantes de lo que creen. Uno de estos eventos paranormales es cuando 2 estudiantes comienzan a tener exactamente la misma alucinación, como si compartieran algún tipo de vínculo mental o tal vez ambas estuvieran siendo manipuladas por lo mismo.
Among the students, and unrelated to the main plot, there will also be many drama subplots. There will be fights between friends and between siblings. There is a character with amnesia and her past might be more important than most people think and maybe even related to all the crazy stuff that happen in this area, another character has a hearing issue and the first season took advantage of that for suspenseful moments.
In this season, the series begin to finally show the explanation about the memory problems faced by some characters, and we can start to develop an idea about what's really going on in this strange school.
There is a moment where the series makes a transition regarding the nature of its mystery from paranormal to scifi, and this was a change I was really not expecting but it contributed in making the mystery of the plot even more intriguing. I thought the story was about something paranormal but nope, it turns out some hidden science is what's it's all about.
The series surely takes it's time to allow the plot to continue, and I started to think the creators were simple consuming time to make the series last as much as possible. The second half of the season though, had a more appropriate pace and revealed a lot of explanations about many of the stuff that were hard to understand since the beginning.
I always love knowing everything there is about the mystery behind a good plot and this season was satisfactory in that sense, that's why I liked the fact this season finally answered many of the questions I had from season 1. It can be said this series has been organized to first, introduce the mystery in season 1, then explain the mystery in season 2, and I am expecting the final resolution of the mystery and all the crazy things, in season 3 next year.
There is an important moment in the story that was really disappointing to me due to the presence of several stupid and consecutive decisions taken by some of the main characters in the last episode. They couldn't have done it worse during those moments full of tension and that crappy writing deteriorated the quality of this season's ending. It wasn't the fault of the cast members but that of the writers who could have done a better job.
Nevertheless, I still think this series can be more than enjoyable for any person who loves mystery and I totally recommend it. I enjoyed the first season more than this one, but I will be surely continue to watch this story to see how it ends.
Entre los alumnos, y sin que haya relación con la trama principal, también habrá muchas subtramas dramáticas. Habrá peleas entre amigos y entre hermanos. Hay un personaje con amnesia y su pasado podría ser más importante de lo que la mayoría de la gente piensa y tal vez incluso esté relacionado con todas las cosas locas que suceden en esta área, otro personaje tiene problemas de audición y la primera temporada aprovechó eso para momentos de suspenso.
En esta temporada, la serie finalmente comienza a mostrar la explicación sobre los problemas de memoria que enfrentan algunos personajes, y podemos comenzar a desarrollar una idea sobre lo que realmente está sucediendo en esta extraña escuela.
Hay un momento en el que la serie hace una transición con respecto a la naturaleza de su misterio de lo paranormal a la ciencia ficción, y este fue un cambio que realmente no esperaba, pero contribuyó a que el misterio de la trama fuera aún más intrigante. Pensé que la historia era sobre algo paranormal, pero no, resulta que se trata de una ciencia oculta.
La serie claramente se toma su tiempo para permitir que la trama continúe, y comencé a pensar que los creadores simplemente estaban consumiendo tiempo para hacer que la serie durara tanto como fuera posible. Sin embargo, la segunda mitad de la temporada tuvo un ritmo más apropiado y reveló muchas explicaciones sobre muchas de las cosas que eran difíciles de entender desde el principio.
Siempre me encanta saber todo sobre el misterio detrás de una buena trama y esta temporada fue satisfactoria en ese sentido, por eso me gustó el hecho de que esta temporada finalmente respondió muchas de las preguntas que tenía de la temporada 1. Se puede decir que esta serie se ha organizado para primero, presentar el misterio en la temporada 1, luego explicar el misterio en la temporada 2, y espero la resolución final del misterio y todas las locuras, en la temporada 3 el próximo año.
Hay un momento importante en la historia que realmente me decepcionó debido a la presencia de varias decisiones estúpidas y consecutivas tomadas por algunos de los personajes principales en el último episodio. No podrían haberlo hecho peor durante esos momentos llenos de tensión y esa escritura deterioró la calidad del final de esta temporada. No fue culpa de los miembros del elenco sino de los escritores que podrían haber hecho un mejor trabajo.
Sin embargo, sigo pensando que esta serie puede ser más que disfrutable para cualquier persona amante del misterio y la recomiendo totalmente. Disfruté más la primera temporada que esta, pero seguramente continuaré viendo esta historia para ver cómo termina.

Netflix has found a lot of acceptance in Spain. It has many productions made in that country, they have managed to consolidate, especially with these youth dramas. Élite is another of their successful productions, have you seen it?
Nope, I haven't seen that series. I knew about its popularity but never decided to give it a watch. I have seen some Spanish Netflix series like Money Heist and The Innocent and I liked them both. The Boarding School Las Cumbres is from Prime Video by the way, Amazon doesn't have as much Spanish productions as Netflix but this one is well worth watching. The first season was better though.
