Day Shift: Hunt for family’s financial stability

Hello, moviegoers and critics! It's a pleasure to meet you all, and this is my first post in this community. I am a certified movie and television series fan. Despite my hectic schedule, I can watch at least two episodes of my favorite television shows on Netflix. But today, I'll give you a movie review of Day Shift, the most recent Netflix release. I saw the trailer two weeks before it came out, and I absolutely adore the vampire genre. This is not your typical vampire film, in my opinion, because it contains elements of comedy and family values.

I always set out and prepare good food, such as dried nuts or my favorite junk food, before watching a movie. Actually, I'm not watching a movie without food. I had high expectations for this film because it is an action, vampire, and comedy. When I was about to begin, my sister arrived with her pet, a cat named Sushi. We watched the movie on our TV to get a cinematic experience because my phone's screen isn't very big. We watched the trailer again to relive the excitement, and now I'll give you my thoughts.

About the film

The film was directed by Jordan Andre Perry or also known as J. J. Perry, an American Martial artist, professional stuntman, and director. It was written by two great writers, Tyler Tice and Shay Hatten. The film’s budget was around $100 million and was later released by Netflix on August 12, 2022. Three big stars starred in the film named Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, and Snoop Dogg. This is my first time watching Snoop Dogg in a movie which added to my interest to watch the film even more.

I was hooked just by reading its description. The film began by depicting his life as a pool cleaner. After the party, clean up the trash and alcohol bottles that were left in the pool. He enjoyed his work. When he finished the job, he plugged his earphones into his ears and listened to music. He'll put on a vampire hunter outfit and go hunting. It's kind of cool because his outfit changes and transitions quickly and without much fuss.

What can I say about the story?

In fact, the story is good and gives the viewers a positive vibe. Despite the vampire theme, it was not at all frightening. Essentially, the film focused on creatively hunting vampires. The story deals with a number of conflicts. First, there is the issue of resuming his marriage and preventing her wife and daughter from leaving him. Then there's his dilemma about selling the vampire's teeth to make money because the appraisal is too low. Furthermore, the main issue is how he can tell his wife about his real job, and what happens when his job goes wrong and causes more conflict with his family.

The scenes and special effects

I love the special effects used in the movie because it was really good. The vampires were very unusual, not your typical vampire who would die in one shot of a bullet or try to avoid the bullet. Day Shift’s vampires are crazy flexible and they have outstanding flexibility as if you are watching a paranormal exorcism. It was crazy that vampires cannot be killed easily when the sun touched their skins. It burnt the skin but will regenerate once again.

I have my favorite scene where Snoop Dogg appeared, and he used his armory to shoot the vampires throwing big, fast, and powerful bullets that killed vampires in one shot. That particular scene gave me instant hype and excitement. Their makeups are not bad at all. It was not excessive that makes the vampires look poor and overly scary. I would say that their music used was amazing. It suited well for the scenes and visual effects.

The actors' performances are superb

The main actors of the movie gave justice in their respective roles. Jamie Foxx hooked me on his cool, rebellious, and funny side as an actor. He portrayed the character perfectly. I’ve watched some of his movies before and definitely improved a lot. I think one of the major problems his character faced is the ability to face his fears as a husband and father for his family. He was afraid that his family would leave him when he told him about his real work.

David Franco was an impressive actor. His hot, attentive, and funny personality can be seen in the movie. He talked too much, but most of the time he was humorous. I loved his scene in the house where he get his head on the floor and tried to stick it back on his body. It was very funny actually. Then, when they got from a friend’s place, his head was removed from his head again. I do not know why he was not dead, I mean he was undead but when your head was removed you’ll die. David is an exemption.

Let’s talk about Snoop Dogg’s performance. His character in the movie is a supportive ally to Jamie Foxx. I didn’t expect a lot from him because I knew he was not an actor, but a rapper. Yet, he maintained to give justice in his role. There were several epic scenes solely focused on him and gave a lot of screen time. He was amazing. He delivered the lines well without giving a hint that he was having difficulties.

Is it worth watching?

Without a doubt! If you like action movies, this is the one for you. If you are a vampire fan, this is also for you. Do you enjoy comedies? Oh, this is also ideal for you. I believe the film is worth watching with your family and friends. Along the way, you'll laugh, be excited, and be amused. I'd give the film a 9.5 out of 10.
