Teen Wolf Movie: Let the new hunt begins

What an extraordinary year it was for Teen Wolf, who finished the series in 2017. I still remember vividly the time I binge-watched the entire series due to my friend’s influence. I thought it was just an ordinary werewolf series, but it surprised me as I continued to watch the further episodes. After six years, it was sad that a new season would not be happening anymore, but a new movie had been released.

The official trailer for Teen Wolf: The Movie was released on December 5, 2022, and the film will be released on January 26, 2023. A lot of fans were excited and eager to see the old casts together. Even I couldn’t control my urge during the time I was downloading it. The film was directed by Russell Mulcahy, a dynamic film and video director based in Melbourne, Australia. It was written by great writers such as Jeff Davis, Will Wallace, and Joseph P. Genier.

Analysis

The film began by introducing the soon-to-be main problem of the story, which I suspected Peter Hale was responsible for. The entry of various character types such as hellhounds, kitsunes, banshees, shapeshifters, and werecoyotes added a new flavor to the movie. The creation of a whole different enemy who controls and awakens an absolute evil was commendable.

One of the best things that happened in the movie was the resurrection of Allison Argent, who died in the last season of Teen Wolf. However, it seemed the figure of Allison kept emerging for his father and Scott. I didn’t expect that Allison would turn into one of the deadliest enemies because, as you all know, she was an important character. On the other hand, as Allison came back, the absolute evil, which is the Nogitsune, rose from the dead as well.

The Onis started to kidnap everyone until Jackson and Lydia were the remaining characters in the real world. When Jackson finally persuaded Lydia to use her Banshee power, it reached the shadow world, and Allison gained her memories back. In all honesty, that was the most satisfying scene in the movie. I got goosebumps. The intense battle continued, sacrifices were made, and a newborn werewolf arose.

Creative Elements

I’m not really a technical guy when it comes to dialogue and costumes. But I am so happy that they didn’t change the style of the characters in the film. The countryside costumes were definitely good. Especially the one who played Nogitsune was remarkable. The use of colors was very effective, and the cinematography was absolutely amazing. I noticed that the camera techniques displayed and portrayed were well presented.

Opinion

There were a lot of surprises in the film that I didn’t expect. The 2 hours and 20 minutes of the film were enough to satisfy the fans. I was so excited for each action scene, particularly the fighting scene between Allison and her friends. Their acting skills were not bad at all. They improved from the six years they didn’t appear in Teen Wolf. I believed that this movie introduced a whole new story and a bridge to create a new protagonist, which is Eli Hale, the son of Derek Hale.

I was a bit disappointed because my favorite character didn’t appear. I was hoping that a short screen time of Stiles Stilinski might pop up at the very end, but it didn’t happen. Aside from that, the transformation of Jackson had no multiple screen times, as if most of the supernatural powers were turned down and prohibited. They are too focused on developing a different side of the story and have resurrected one of the main casts.

Recommendation

How I wish this film would have a brand-new series because that’s what my mind is screaming for. The film was well-developed; varieties of new characters were introduced, and shocking plots were given. If you are one of those fans who patiently wait for a new movie or series of Teen Wolf, then this movie is for you. I bet you’ll like this as much as I do.
