Anaconda (2025)

I watched the reboot of Anaconda, this one, and I have mixed feelings about. I enjoyed it but then maybe because it was meant to be silly, I couldn’t take it seriously. If that was the goal they had in mind then they succeeded. It was so funny and try as they might to intoduce the themes of friendship and broken dreams, I just couldn’t get past the regurgitation, a pig and a squirrel.

Three friends experiencing midlife crisis decide to fulfill their highschool dream, which is shooting a movie. The director of the movie, Doug, has always wanted to do more than just shoot sappy wedding videos like he is doing until he finds out that his friend, Griffen, has acquired the rights to the Anaconda movie. Like a switch goes off, they plan and decide to head off into the jungle to shoot this movie which would hopefully be a big break for them but life doesn’t always shits rainbows, does it?
Down the line, they meet bad-ass Ana who turns out to be a literal bad-ass. I mean, she’s doing illegal stuff and she is about ready to shut them up for good when they find out. See, this is the part that confuses me. I get the whole twist thing they did with the good-cop-bad-cop angle but then, maybe it was the actress but she was way too much of a sweetheart to be a bad person. Or maybe that was the angle? Maybe the whole movie is just supposed to be dumb. Anyway, I couldn’t hate Ana. Her turn around was not even realistic as far as I am concerned but what about the movie was realistic? It’s a jungle with a giant snake that can fly! Or lunge.

Apart from that, every other thing was just embarrassingly sweet. The chemistry between Griff and Claire was palpable (in that highschool lost love sort of way) and the humour made me howl at midnight. It was recommended by someone and he told me it was no horror, just plain dumb and now I see what he meant. Except for the few jump scares here and there, there was nothing horrific about this movie, even when the snake crushed someone.

Would I watch this movie again? Absolutely. It is just endearingly stupid how it all is and even the whole friendship thing rubbed off on me in the end even if they almost got sued. Oh! Speaking of friendships and betrayals, guess who told the lie that set the final arc? I’m sure you’d have fun watching. I recommend it. Watch it with your spouse or something.

This review actually sold me 😭
I mean the way you describe it makes it sound like one of those movies that knows it’s ridiculous and just leans all the way in. Flying snakes, regurgitation, midlife crises, and accidental feelings? That’s a wild combo. I like how you didn’t overthink it either cause sometimes a movie just wants to be stupid and entertaining, and that’s enough right? lol
Definitely sounds like a “watch with someone and laugh through it” kind of film but baby girl has no someone(air quote)😂
