Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love

Hello fellow movie and TV show lovers! I'm back again... this time I want to discuss a Japanese drama titled "Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love." I've previously watched the Korean version starring Song Kang and Han Seo Hee... which is also an adaptation of a popular webtoon. At first, I was curious if the Japanese version of "Nevertheless" would be the same as the Korean version? Another thing that attracted me to this drama was that the male lead is Ryusei Yokohama... my favorite Japanese actor, Lol. And lets review "Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love"!

The main characters

Ryusei Yokohama

Ren Kosaka... played by Ryusei Yokohama, is a talented young artist who is known not only in Japan but also internationally. Ren easily gets along with others, especially the opposite sex, but he also has a mysterious personality. He is a man full of charisma but seems lonely. His monotonous life slowly begins to change when he teaches art at Kamakura University and meets a girl who is a student of the art faculty.

Sara Minami

Sara Minami plays Miu Hamasaki... a mysterious art student at Kamakura University. Miu is a girl with many doubts about herself. Miu is actually very talented, but she has emotional trauma caused by her ex-boyfriend... which makes her feel inferior.

A Complex and Emotional Love Story

Telling the love story of a lecturer and his female student, this drama has a complex plot and an emotional story. Ren and Miu become close, even acting affectionately like a couple outside of campus... However, Ren's attitude changes once they're on campus. On campus, Ren treats Miu the same as any other student, even appearing cold. Ren's attitude slowly hurts Miu's feelings, and Ren seems oblivious to it. Behind Ren's demeanor, he has his own reasons. He's actually a man with many wounds but finds it difficult to show his emotions. He doesn't want to be tied down in a relationship because he knows that no relationship will last forever.

Cinematography

The cinematography of a film or drama is one of the determining factors in whether it's worth watching or not... And I'm sure everyone agrees. The cinematography of "Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love" is excellent and definitely worth watching. Good cinematography adds to the captivating feel of a film or drama.

Excellent acting

The acting of the actors is crucial to any work... whether it's a film or a drama. The acting of the actors in "Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love," especially the main leads, is undeniable. Ryusei Yokohama and Sara Minami did an excellent job. The other cast members also did a great job in this drama.

My opinion after watching "Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love":

Personally, I think the Japanese version of Nevertheless is better than the Korean version. Why? I think the main factor is the acting of the main cast... especially the male lead, Song Kang and Ryusei Yokohama. I'm not saying Song Kang's acting is bad, it's just that in this version... the male lead is a teenage boy who likes to seduce women. Meanwhile, in the Japanese version, Ryusei is able to bring Ren to life, who seems lonely and mysterious. The female lead also seems weak in the Korean version... while the Japanese version seems better. However, that doesn't mean the Japanese version is without its flaws and I think the Japanese version of "Nevertheless" isn't long enough, so the plot feels rushed. In this regard, the Korean version is better in my opinion. I'm comparing the two not to put one down, but to show the differences between the Korean and Japanese versions from my perspective.

Thank you for reading my review of "Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love." I highly recommend this drama... but I suggest you watch the Korean version first if you want to see the differences. See you in the next post and stay tuned for my next review!
