I definitely would recommend being familiar with the show if you are going to watch the movie. Yes, you can jump in and follow the story without issue, but it's one of those movies that kind of expects you to care about the characters going into it. That said, I am going to go into this review assuming you have already seen the show.

And that means I'm going to be talking about a long episode. That's the kind of movie Goblins Crown is. Judging it by that standard, I would not rank it high concerning the other things that went on in the actual anime. When you go into Goblin Crown, you are here to watch a one-off adventure where you get to see some fun fights you wouldn't have seen in the anime with some interesting areas and a higher budget.

That said, for the brief time you know her, the new character is done pretty well. Someone who was captured by the Goblins is trying to get back her sword and avenge her fallen party. The story doesn't go any deeper than that here, but we do get to see goblins trying to learn. Much like when they are under the orders of others, in this case, they had some influence from The God of Knowledge and were trying some new tricks. It keeps things from being as predictable as they otherwise could have been, and the tension is kept up in the movie as a result. That said, the stakes never feel as high as they got in the series for any of the major story arcs there.

But if you want some goblin killing action, that is where Goblins Crown delivers. It doesn't get as gruesome and violent as the more extreme episodes of the show get, but it is animated wonderfully. There is not a single cut, stab wound, or impact that lets down in this film. The setting is also different from any of the anime episodes, and the show makes good use of it. You come into Goblin Crown for a visual delight, and you come in enjoying the movie.

I didn't get nearly as invested in the story here as I was with the anime, but the story you do get is fine. I cared just enough for it to matter. The movie made up for it with some fantastic action paired with a couple neat pieces of lore and so long as that is what you are going in expecting you aren't going to be disappointed.

Goblin Slayer is one of those few current anime that does not fall into moeshit or show things for puberty, it is an anime that promises you and fulfills you with battles and bloodshed. I honestly like this movie because it follows that anime essence of showing guts and grotesque scenes that look wonderful. Good post, I send you a big hug and a greeting from a distance. n-n

I finished watching the anime not long ago, a few weeks ago, I downloaded the movie but I haven't seen it, if you describe it the same as the anime, I should see it as soon as possible.
