This is Just Me Trashing Megaton-kyuu Musashi - An Anime Review

Look, this is just going to be me taking a massive dump all over this show. Megaton-Kyuu is one of the dumbest things I have seen in a long time. This is almost less a review and more a list of the things about this show that infuriated me. Don't get me wrong, I had a good laugh at the rate stupid things continued to occur, but at the same time, it wasn't enough over the top stupidity to make it enjoyable in that regard.

The first major issue is no one seems to understand what the Musashi Mecha is capable of doing. These people have all the design specs, so of course, when the lead pilot wants to use the Megaton Punch ability, they inform him its use is only really good for close-quarters combat with a single shielded opponent. He proceeds to fly up into the air and use the Megaton Punch to fire a beam of directed energy at the ground causing an explosion wiping out a large swarm of enemies. You know, the ability they JUST SAID didn't do that? Every time a new ability is revealed, what we the audience discover is the people running the show don't know how any of this works.

Next issue, we discover there was a guy behind the creation of all this predicted an alien invasion and created a convoluted plan to show the survivors how to reach a very specific location by traveling a very specific path to a bunch of shelters using an unfinished gravitational engine to carry an entire city, which would require a surviving AI capable of handling the calculations, instead of just making use of the giant space carrier that is capable of saving humanity from this alien invasion. Mind you, he told no one this was coming as everyone we have seen in the show thus far agrees no one (Outside of this guy) had any idea of an Alien invasion. Also, 99% of the planet was wiped out by the aliens in forty-eight hours, and only because they went soft at first to test humanity's military capability to see if they were a threat. Do.... do I really need to go into every reason why this was a bad plan, or why this plot is stupid?

Then comes the actual animation of the combat. The segments in the city and the segments on the battlefield use different animation that does not look like they belong in the same anime. The CG used in the battlefield is especially bad. It's really hard to explain, but you see mechs that look really clunky and awkward moving around quickly and with great precision, their movies just don't feel at all natural and it makes the action look horrible.

You may be asking yourself if there is anything good I have to say about this show? Yes, there is. At the end of the sixth episode, they had a chance to do the whole 'Lady gets embarrassed by the unexpected situation and suspects male lead did something perverse and hits them' shtick, and it takes the high road and doesn't do it.

This show is just bad. I give it credit for at least making me laugh at how bad it was, but it was no Babylon, it just can't carry the show on the premise that you have to see how much dumber it all gets. I don't have anything good to say about this one, it's a hard pass.
