Cinestill 800T For the Darkness

Christmas was ages ago, but I still remember picking up that pack of Cinestill 800T at the local camera shop near my parent's house like it was yesterday. Mainly because I had no idea what the price was.

$18.99... For a roll of 120. Ouch.

Since it would only give me somewhere between 8 and 16 frames I decided to hang onto it for a "special" occasion. That occasion just so happened to be the very same game convention that I took my Kodak Gold 200 to.

Of course 800 ISO is a bit more versatile in such a dark room, so I exuberantly took shot after shot. I was able to do this because I selected the Frau (Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta) and got 16 frames of 4.5x6 goodness.

I took most of the shots but still had a few left over to burn through at home. Those will be another day. Unfortunately, I dropped the negatives while they were still sticky and my rinsing doesn't seem to have done much, so they are quite hairy.

I have to say I am super impressed with this film, despite the hairs. I was worried about grain in such a high ISO, but it's barely noticeable when zoomed out. It probably helped that I mixed up a fresh batch of C-41 chemistry to develop it. Zoomed in I'm not so sure I like it. But unless I'm planning to print out a massive poster, I'm probably safe.

The reviews on this film talk about the way it glows, and I must agree, it's quite a lovely glow. The colors rendered well, and if it weren't for the hairs, the shadows would be pleasant too.

I almost wonder if I should try cleaning the negatives with high volume alcohol. Has anyone here every tried that?

Camera: Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta 530
Film: Cinestill 800T
Developed in Cinestill C-41 and scanned with the Epson V600.

Yes, I know. 12 days without a post. Life sucks sometimes. I had photography block until I got over myself and finished this roll last night. Then today I took an entire roll of 24 frames in the span of a couple of hours just because I could.

Annnnnd bought a half frame Kodak camera.... Someone stop me....
