Gazelle Family Photos Part 4
A few months ago (many months ago at this point) I was inspired by @darth-azrael to bid on old photo slides and scan them for posterity. If you like this kind of thing I highly recommend his posts.
It's become an obsession. Seriously, stop me.
The first set I won at auction was several boxes of slides taken by Miss Kathryn Gazelle of Washington DC. They range in date from 1948ish to 1963. I'm going to post them roughly by date and subject and give some background on what I have learned about the Gazelle family.
This series is from a set of slides that were not the standard Kodachrome. These are "Pavelle" branded. Pavelle was started in the 1930's and lasted until the 1960's and possibly beyond as a photo paper manufacturer. I honestly can't find too much information about the company, but I must say I'm not super impressed with the color, especially when compared to Kodachrome.
This set was taken in 1948 or 49 in the mountains of West Virginia. I don't think this is one of the Gazelle brothers as he doesn't appear in the later slides.
This is one of the brothers, as I mentioned in a previous post I think this is Stanley, the younger of the Gazelle brothers:
The pictures are from a hunting/camping trip obvioously.
Stanley Gazelle attended West Virginia University on the GI Bill. He earned an economics degree and spent much of his career in the Department of Agriculture.
I went to a rival school and even I think it's cool to see the old stadium and this building, the Woodburn Hall, built between 1874 and 1876.
The stadium has since been torn down and rebuilt.
