An unpredicted future
Unseen for it's not arrived?

What dares lay out ahead
An empty vast blank
Unknown and yet barely alive?

What is more dark than time itself? Our past is obscured by perception and poor memory or just blotted out like a bad nightmare. Our future is a complete blank until we live through it.
