Saw Disclosure Day
This movie was directed by Steven Spielberg. The man basically created the modern Hollywood box-office film experience with his first major hit Jaws in 1975 which he followed up with Close Encounters of The Third Kind, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.
The first movie I ever saw in a theater was another major hit from Spielberg: Jurassic Park on it's opening day in 1993.
I was only 4 years old, and even before then I was obsessed with dinosaurs.
That movie was such an experience, and I'll never forget sitting there trembling and my grandfather leaning over to ask "Do you want to leave?" I replied, "No, Pop. We'll miss the movie" in complete confusion. I only remember that detail because he did, and he mentioned it to me forever.
Spielberg also did Saving Private Ryan which is one of my favorite war films easily.
I say all of that to say this: Spielberg movies are premium entertainment. He's considered a modern master of his craft.
Which is why this movie is so disappointing.
It starts out pretty strong. For the first hour I was very-much invested in the outcome, and that's in spite of them giving the ending away in many of the trailers.
The more dark and serious implications of the film are never touched on aside from hearing the audio from them watching the stolen footage.
This movie has good actors. The special effects are sometimes very good, and other times have that uncanny valley effect.
But most of all the "villain" of the movie is just so ineffective.
Instead of the govt being after them it's a private contractor with "govt-ties" or whatever.
I recommend you watch this movie, but I am so glad that I didn't pay to see this movie. I want you to watch it because it's like a master-class in how out of touch our Hollywood royalty have become.
This movie feels like it should have came out 15-20 years ago.
I actually just watched this movie as well. The kids liked it. It has that everything easy vibe of most Spielberg stuff. Even his old stuff..just had this all the pieces fit perfectly way. I wonder if the culture has just changed and he has stayed the same as a director. 🤷♂️
the last line in the movie was over the top though… it felt like lets leave and open ended ending cause thats what the kids want these days… i dunno…that ending rubbed me wrong.
Yeah most people seemed to feel it didn't work for them.
I watched ET so many times as a kid, and there was always something off about that movie to me.
And Close Encounters also never really did it for me. Lots of stuff about the movie is great, but it's not a movie that I would watch over and over.
That said, I'd watch either of those again before I watch this film again.
I think part of the issue for me is the altruistic view of aliens.
There are a lot of people that assume they are benevolent somehow, and better than people. But I would say that runs contrary to everything we know about natural biology, and the competitive nature of virtually all life forms.
The fact that they aren't known to us openly would be an indicator of some sort of intent. Seems they work/interact only with a select-few people, or they want to remain secret for some other possibly nefarious purpose.
