A father-daughter archaeologist duo attempt to unearth a pyramid buried under the Egyptian desert. However, they encounter an insidious creature when they enter the pyramid.

The Pyramid (2014) directed by Grégory Levasseur is a found footage style horror movie. It is more or less along the lines of the trope you would expect found footage to follow. The story follows father-daughter archaeologist protagonists Miles Holden and Nora Holden as they discover a three-sided unique pyramid.

Sent out together with news reporter Chrita and cameraman Fitzi the four attempt to uncover the mysteries of this labyrinthine pyramid and the secrets within, to be the first people to break such discoveries.

I'm always on the hunt for horror movies and in the mood to watch one that catches my eye. I do enjoy found footage style horror movies, although cliché- I think it's to be expected they will be somewhat bad and cringeworthy. The concepts always seem decent but the lack of funding, acting abilities and special effects/props make for a lackluster performance most of the time and notably forgettable.

Pyramids will be another one of those movies, although I did enjoy the first half of it and the exploration aspect of the movie, dwelling beneath the tunnels of Osiris sounds like a cool concept, I mean, he was the god of the afterlife and death afterall.

The movie fell quite flat very quickly due to the dialogue between characters and the obvious wrong choices made in every decision, as we've come to know in the majority of generic horror movies. I thought the concept was quite good but I just can't get over the choices that always lead to these plot-lines. 😅

I have to admit the film can offer some thrills at time with the unexpected jumpscare or character demise but the further these movies seem to go along time wise, the worse it gets as the plot and characters themselves seem to melt away from any logical choices or decision making.

But, of course this is to be expected with this kind of movie! Althought I might be critical now I did enjoy myself while watching The Pyramid, it was not a regretful experience, I knew what I was getting myself into and it delivered as expected. If you are in the mood for a thoughtless, "horror" movie, found footage style. Then this movie is decent, thankfully to some redeeming qualities such as Fitzi's character being likeable and actually logical (somewhat) gives you hope to persist for the outcome of the movie.

All in all, I can't rate it very highly but I would give it a 4/10 for a decent watch. It's got enjoyable moments and the ending I would say was a big redeeming quality due a satisfying ending scene which wrapped up the plot quite well. It's definitely one of those movies you throw on with with low expectations but it's worth the watch if you are in the mood for a laid back experience without much horror aspects, more along the lines of a handful of jumpscares at most.

What I liked were exciting ideas like exploring the pyramids and Egyptian myths but for horror I don't feel anything.
