My preference For Movie Scenes
Africans movies are known for their local settings, which involves a typical village characterized by huts, sparse population, sparsely distributed settlements, and dresses that revolve around their culture. This is different for the western countries who also represent their culture in a sophisticated environment in movies. My taste for movies has changed over time and so is my preference for movie scenes/settings. While I was a child, I enjoyed watching African movies, they were my best, and especially when the movie revolved around love. I was connected with the culture I understood better and at that time the camera brightness or sharpness was just perfect.
But as years went by, I realized African movies had less suspense. Maybe it was my yearning for something new or the fact that I could predict the end of the movie that gradually turned me off. It was easy to tell what would happen in the next few minutes especially in the local movies, because they had almost the same storyline or they made it obvious of the outcome. They had little to offer and this killed my interest to some level but I still enjoyed the settings of a river, the warriors, and the favorite groups of gossipers.
As technology advanced, I was introduced to a brighter camera with clear details. It was at that moment that I started to notice not just how typical the African scenes were but the blur and poor vision in village movies. Gradually my interest started to die down coupled with the fact that the storylines had little suspense. The typical settings are good, it sure brings a connection with where we come from, but time changed my love for it completely and I saw myself attracted to the movies with settings of a city and sophisticated environment.
This could be because life has also evolved and everything about us has changed. We have fewer villages than we had some years ago and I am more connected to the settings of a city than I do for the typical settings. I love movie scenes with the cities and sophisticated environments, I relate with it more now. This comes with a clearer video camera and captures the settings we live in. I no longer relate with the village settings even though there are exceptions especially in a movie I watched recently titled jaguar jaguar, a movie acted in a typical Yoruba town. The storyline fit perfectly with the settings and may have passed a little message if it was done in the city
However, I'm engrossed in western movies the most because of their level of suspense. I could predict the movie jaguar jaguar even in its early stage and only waited to see it come through. I feel the typical setting doesn't have a broad storyline and has little to offer. Movies by the iroko and Abaka productions have good storylines and most of their movies have developed settings. The settings of a movie matters a lot to me now and I'll choose a sophisticated environment in a movie rather than the local settings.
For me, Western movies are better in times of storyline, professionalism, setting, themes especially series. However, as from 2022, the African especially Nigerian movies have witnessed and is witnessing a serious Outlook and nice touches and I can only be enthusiastic about the next African Nigerian movies to be produced. I hope to participate in this contest too. I enjoy your posts. And am motivated too.
It's good the evolution in the movie industry has also had impacted in the Nigeria movies, we desire such for our nation. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Maybe it's how we've accepted the culture...African movies always appear predictable whether the rural or urban setting. E dn tire me.
That's why I prefer the comics, yes they're predictable too but vibes always deliver

The local settings sow how much we have evolved as a people even as regards movie production, that's why we easily point out lapses.
Both settings serve their purpose depending on the story that is being told.

Jagun Jagun you mean...I've not seen it myself. And it's been a while too since I saw a village movie. I do more of Cinema and Western movies. It still is a good one from both ends

You are right by saying that you will predict the end of a Nigerian movie from the beginning. But all the same, I still love our Nigerian movies. I could relate to the culture and the environment. I don't like too much tricks in movies which is what I will get in western movies. I love the nature around me. I love our movies and I think that they are trying their best. If only the government will invest in our movies we will have the best. I also act movies, though only christian movie with good morals. I only participate in movies that brings people closer to God than teach people what will make them go far away from their creator.

You're right, our movies represent our culture and sometimes the western movie is full of trick , but somehow I still like those tricks, it comes with suspense.

I went to mount Zion drama institute in the year 2013. Search for the movie called "the puppeteer" I futured there. I acted as the aunty of the main actress in the movie.
